You really shouldn't post things about medical science that you don't understand. If 7% of his DNA was changed, he would have come home an Ape. 7% of two or three genes were switched on by epigenetics, which basically gave him an auto-immune disorder. They think the physical stress of being in space had plenty to do with it, but change in diet or even bacteria can do it too. They know that the conditions of space can change tendon and bone strength, and cause neurological changes, so it's not surprising that a body can and will respond to what it perceives as a physical attack anyway.
