No one was celebrating in 2022’s economy. by Emily Stewart

Speak for yourself, bitch. I didn't lose any money in 2022.

This is when I thrive, because I'm not an idiot like you and your friends are. Last time this happened I got my house and my car for pennies on the dollar.

This time I get to buy all the shit you didn't need for even less just so you can pay your rent that was already insanely overpriced before Bidenflation ripped through the nation after you're laid off. Who knows? Maybe I'll even sell it all back to you at a discount when Trump is re-elected and the economy gets back to something resembling decent. (My apologies ahead of time, Emily... Venmo, Cash App and Paypal are NOT accepted!)

Pinky swear... I won't take a shit in your $5,000 Balenciaga handbag.

I'd suggest you learn to code. Short of that, maybe you'd better think of trading in that diamond encrusted selfie stick and those stunning Jimmy Choo's for pick axe and some mining gear for when TPTB open up all the mines again to fuel your coal powered car addiction that will spearhead your imminent descent into your first bankruptcy.

What? You don't want to work in the coal mines? But... wait... Now I'm confused. You want equality of the sexes, don't you Emily? I couldn't possibly be less interested in going through your Vox article history, but c'mon Man! I'm SURE you do!

Why don't you give Daddy a little spin and show me how you swing that axe and choke on the soot, baby.

TIP OF THE DAY: You're not going to want to get stuck in a blizzard in that cute little Ford F150 Lightning without a charging station right next to you. Trust me.

Hey! Do those things even work if the wind knocks the power out? Why don't you be a dear and get back to us on that when you find out? You can do it in the form of a TikTok video from the local homeless shelter, assuming of course what's left of your battery can get you there in those brutal sub-zero temps, the shelter still has room for you, they have Wi-Fi enabled and you were able to afford your last month's cell phone bill.

Boy! That's a whole lot of ASSumptions, innit?

Oh, and don't forget to take some pics of your abandoned EV for all of your Instagram followers!

Meanwhile, I'll be right here...

Looking out for all the stuff you're about to sell on eBay and Craigslist...

And Partying like it's 1929.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I tried to read the article, I really did, but it was so fulla crap I just couldn't make myself plow thru it.

"Americans on the whole have saved up money???" Seriously? When most Americans couldn't cover a $400 emergency and are $10,000 in credit card debt?

"The job market remains tight"?

OMFG, who writes this horseshit?

I agree, many Americans get themselves into trouble by overspending. Too much college loan debt. Unaffordable mortgages. Big shiny toys they call SUVs or electric cars. Bad investments. The latest smart phone/TV/clothing/accessory/vacation experiences they really can't afford. But there are also a lot of people working hard and just scraping by.

It certainly is a hard read.

I'm not saying it's Tolkien. It's written by a woman with a mind of a 4th grader, but yeah...

She means her well-off friends and her well-off family. "Her" Americans.

Dipshit millennials who had everything handed to them.

I know. In a way, that was me when I was 19-going-on-20 after I'd lucked into a 2-week office temp gig that was turned into an offer for the best job I'd ever had in my life by the beginning of the 2nd week.

I didn't go to any college that I didn't pay for up front, and I didn't get myself a brand new car... But I DID waste a bunch of money on useless college courses and every single car I've owned otherwise cost less combined than the car I drove around when I was 19-22 years old. I bought all the expensive beer while my friends could only afford the cheap stuff, and I was always buying rounds. I brought big old bags of weed to the party and smoked everyone and their friend out, while wearing my $250 outfits. I always walked around with the newest tech advertised in Maxim Magazine, and had only the best for the entertainment center in my apartment. (And the entire DVD collection gradually got stolen at the 5-nights a week parties half full of strangers I was always throwing and too drunk to moderate).

And then the job was nuked from orbit, I was lucky enough to have a grandma that let me move in, and I remained in the basement for 5 years with the two cats that pissed everywhere. No money saved up. ... At least I paid off the car.

And it's hard when you first realize how few friends you actually have. I got more incoming calls on a Friday night when I was 20 than I'd get in 3 months when I was 22 and broke.

And I was there too. And I don't think that anybody can really learn how to do things right unless they've tasted it.

The Vox article written by Emily and linked in the OP, like every Vox article ever written, was authored by people who have no idea what the real world is like because they've had everything handed to them their entire lives. You can't even blame them, really... They're little more than adult children at this point.

“Personal independence is a virtue and it is the soul out of which comes the sturdiest manhood. But there can be no independence without a large share of self-dependence, and this virtue cannot be bestowed. It must be developed from within.”
