Hi,

Heard about this before.

https://archive.org/

“Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.”

Way back machine says: “Explore more than 788 billion web pages saved over time”

Yeah. It's a really cool site. They've gotten quite political in recent years and have purged a lot of things that they don't agree with (stuff that you can find on archive.today instead), but as long as you steer clear of political stuff they've got a vast library of the history of the internet.

It's kind of crazy too how much copyrighted content they've got on there and they never seem to get in any trouble for hosting too. They must have some friends in pretty high places. If you remember the backlash to Napster back in the late 90's and early 2000's before it was shut down, it's kind of funny thinking about that now. The amount of stuff that the Wayback Machine hosts on the site that doesn't belong to them dwarfs what Napster had for download by at least 1000 times.

Growing up in a Republic was nice... Shame we couldn't keep it.

I wanted to see serenitymovie.org and it worked. Can’t see a whole lot but I clicked on link to can’t stop the serenity and got to see an old screenshot of https://www.cantstoptheserenity.com

Got to see castletv.org And move around the archive of the website.

its great for open source, public domain, folklore and copyright free music, old movies and pdf and ebooks

It also hosts news when some terrorists shoots up a place and suddenly journalists start pulling the story, but like said its less reliable than it should be ... it should archive live news feeds but sometimes it has 404 errors

Not sure why anyone would archive shitlamic books there are already millions upon millions of those things, but a vid of someone flushing that nasty Quran or Kroan down a toilet is cool IMHO

There used to be a wiki here, but it was not actively used & spammed to death. :( There are a few good uses we could make of this domain, e.g., for a free culture focused Mastodon instance. If you'd like to help, get in touch.
