As I was looking over Buffy Season 7 episode listings at TVTome.com, I noticed under the episode "Dirty Girls" (when Caleb (Nathan) first pops up) it says that Nathan originally auditioned for Angel on AtS. Does anyone have more info on this?

What a sight it would have been to have seen Nathan as the dark, broody vampire.

I hadn't heard that, but if true it makes Joss and Nathan's exchange on the Serenity commentary about Joss originally wanting David B. for Mal even funnier.

I believe that in the commentary for Serenity, Nathan informs Joss that he tried out for the role of Angel but he didnt get far enough to audition for Joss, so Joss was not aware of it. If it wasnt there then it may have been at a con that they were both at, or the commentary for TTJ and Joss told it to Tim. I remember hearing it being explained so its either a commentary, a convention, or I'm losing my mind.

And it was probably for Buffy, not ATS. Otherwise that would mean the role would have been recast after the fact.

if that is true, then he must have auditioned for the role of angel way back in the first episode of buffy which angel was in, right? not for the series because at that point, david boreanaz had already played angel in buffy, unless the creators were going to recast the part for the series, which would have been a little weird.

still, it is kind of cool. of course, nathan fillion's role in firefly is somewhat similar to angel in the sense that it is, as you said, "dark and broody". although, mal is not trying to make up for a lifetime of sinning.
