DRAGONWINE

The Vasquez rocks are very familiar from Star Trek, in which Kirk battles the slow cumbersome latex lizard Gorn as well as the series Roswell and other tv and films. Many visit them for photo ops and such. Now my real question is the Firefly rock...the one in the episode Trash...the one Mal is sitting on after Yo-Saf-Bridg has left him stranded with no clothes. How do we find that rock? Where is it? It should be made just as famous if not more so! If only to say I was here. Just think of the photo possibilities...or not as the case may be. Somebody has to know.
Perhaps we should make it a treasure hunt type contest. Let the hunt begin!

It's a nothing part til you don't got one, then you have to go to ebay.....aaaaagh!

INDIGO

I love those rocks! They have to be some of the most famously filmed rocks in the world. Every time that I see them I think back to that Star Trek scene alright. It would be cool to know where they were... surely *some* film buff must know?

I used to be confused, now I'm just not sure.

Were you asking about the Vasquez rocks, Indigo? They're located just north of LA off the 14 freeway (I think the exit is Aqua Dulce - but I might be misremembering). I've spent many an afternoon over the years climbing all over the rocks. Back in the early eighties our pseudo-scout group was able to camp for free there as long as we picked up litter around the park (which ended up being mostly beer cans and cigarette butts).

In terms of the rocks graced by the bare booty of the bodacious boss (okay, that was stretching it a bit just to get the alliteration) that's a bit harder. Best suggestion I've seen is that they're located somewhere in the Mojave desert (I can't remember what thread that came from - something to do with Joshua Trees - but I seem to recall that at least one fireflyfan lived in the general vicinity). IMDB only lists three shooting locations for the show (LA, Santa Clarita, and a ranch outside Santa Clarita) and none of those quite fit the geography - not desert enough, too much vertical.

I like the idea of a quest, DragonWine, but I think someone would need to get some inside information from one of the cast or crew on the actual location. That would be a pretty hard rock to find otherwise.
