Yep! It's not as stupid as the White Helmet mannequin challenge, which shows them "rescuing" an "injured" young man who is covered with "dust" (flour) and "trapped in" (lightly sprinkled with) rubble.

The White Helmets actually had to apologize for that one!

Only in Siggy-land is a misjudged publicity stunt to call attention to a humanitarian crisis worse than out and out fabrications by state-owned media.

Syria's White Helmets apologize for Mannequin Challenge video

London (CNN)It's a familiar scene: Syria Civil Defence, also known as the "White Helmets," rushing to rescue a man covered in rubble, but unlike thousands of other videos from Aleppo, this one is staged.
The short video -- a take on the Mannequin Challenge -- was created by the Revolutionary Forces of Syria (RFS), an opposition media group ...

I invite everyone to watch the video, all the way to the end.

It starts like any mannequin challenge. And then, at 25 seconds, you realize that it transitions into staged events. The makeup is on. The special effects are in place. At 25 seconds the acting starts. And a sound track is faded-in and superimposed over the actors.

If you didn't see the first 25 seconds, how would you know that this wasn't real? How could you distinguish this fake video from any others claiming to be the real thing?

It invites the question - if these events could be staged, what about others? It puts ALL OTHER VIDEOS claiming to be genuine into question.

Obviously that's incorrect. They felt a responsibility to do so but they didn't have to. I don't expect someone who has as low a sense of personal integrity - especially about the Truth - to understand that though.

Probably 95% of the media outlets got that one wrong big time, and of course many will not own up to that - so especially in context, it was totally unnecessary on their part. Hell, even Kiki got it wrong.

Sorry, Trump propaganda outlets saying he would win just don't count.

SIG and 1kiki post what they claim to be facts from unreliable sources in these threads. They think that others here get their news, ( information ) from them. All their posts actually do is provide a record of their trolling. Nothing more...Our posting responses to their type of trolling is what the wider internet is now realizing and responding to, fake news. It is a blight on society and has weaved itself into the fabric of the internet. It's about getting clicks, not disseminating facts for discussion. SIG and 1kiki are all about fake news and getting clicks ( attention ).

Here we go, you can't point out that any of the videos are fake so it's back to labelling everyone "terrorists".

It's a highly religious society. They pull a child out of the rubble of their own homes and cry "God is great" because the child is still alive. And you want to use that to smear them as terrorists? Why? Because it serves your worldview. Your precious worldview.

No one in their right mind would watch those videos and see swarms of terrorists. Those people are not terrorists, they're PEOPLE.

As a former EMT - I see a lot of cosmetic injuries in your videos, with everyone amazingly healthy and intact. The 'victims' look a lot like the volunteer 'victims' we were trained on, which were healthy people with fake blood, dirt, debris etc painted on. I'm not saying these ARE fake, but it would be extremely easy to fake them. It would be far harder to fake a traumatic amputation, compound fracture, blown-apart skull, evisceration, chunks of flesh ripped open and hanging down as from a large avulsion, or other genuine and devastating injury. And those are all amazingly absent in every single 'victim' shown. I also didn't see any hard-to-fake medical treatments, like the insertion of an airway. (Also, as a professional comment, I saw a lot of very bad care being 'given', much of it would have been lethal to anyone with a serious injury, and which wouldn't even have met standards from 40 years ago.)

Awww.... "terrorists are people too" What a cute meme.

What KIKI said: I was struck by the fact that they were dragging and hand-carrying "victims" out of the rubble to .... wherever. But anybody with a modicum of training knows that you should put victims on a backboard. Anything will do- a door, a plank of wood. There was no care for possible spinal injuries.

Also I was looking at the children specifically and wondering... what was the source of their injury? It was really hard to tell - they looked basically uninjured, except that they were limp. So another thing that crossed my mind was: How do you get children to be so limp? Sedate them, like they did in the pictures of the "victims" of the chemical attack on Ghouta? Would someone go that far to stage a rescue? Women were mostly (suspiciously) absent. I can't say that they're fake, but they didn't all look real either.

AFA the flurry of "Akkahu Akbar" greeting every "rescue" ... pro-government fighters seem to have their own victories without a flurry of accompanying Takbirs. I went online to see if I could find videos of the SAA or Liwa al Quds or Tiger Forces or any government -friendly fighters with equivalent Allahu Akbars, and I couldn't. For example, here is a 9-minute video of intense fighting and even a rescue, and not a single "Allahu Akbar" can be heard. A lot of battlefield discussion, but no Allahu Akbar!

An 8-minute video of Tiger Forces.... same thing!

So it's not fair to say that it's a "religious society" ... only PARTS of it are religious. Maybe even "extremely" so.

I recall reading a story about life in Raqqa... how the population, which was Sunni to begin with .... was gradually turned towards Wahhabism by foreign forces, like Nazi-occupied Europe. The people tried to live their lives as much as possible, there was more or less accommodation towards occupying troops and ideology. The (few) civilians still living in east Aleppo are for sure on a spectrum of religious fervor. Some are just keeping their heads down, but some of them are fully on-board with Wahhabist theology.

In the meantime, the "rebel" defense in Aleppo has collapsed, and most of the remaining pocket has disappeared.

I've been keeping track of the number of civilians evacuating east Aleppo, and it's nowhere near 250,000. It totals no more than about 30,000 so far, with just a few neighborhoods remaining. All of that yammer about "250,000" civilians was what I thought: sheer (UN-backed) bullshit.

The UN had suggested yet another "cease fire" several days ago, which the "rebels" would have used to regroup and re-arm (as they have in the past). The UN has never backed the Syrian plan of evacuating active "rebels" from Aleppo- I guess the USA-backed portions of the UN were still hoping to protect their precious "rebel"-held pocket in Aleppo. Now that the pocket is essentially taken, let's see if the UN steps and even-handedly offers aid to newly government-controlled areas of Aleppo. I doubt it.

Acknowledging that Aleppo is essentially lost, ISIL has re-opened a front near Palmyra, probably to distract pro-government fighters from turning their attention to Idlib. So there seems to be some overall coordination between ISIL and the so-called "rebels".

By reading reports in various sources of how many people have left or been evacuated from various neighborhoods, including western sources, who have no interest in under-reporting the number of displaced people. Didn't it occur to you to try to resolve the discrepant population estimates (250,000 versus 30,000) yourself? I guess not! Why start thinking NOW???

That was way back in my younger, more energetic days, when it seemed exciting and adventurous. But I've done many things - gas station attendant, house cleaner, computer programmer, clinical instructor - to name a very few things on my very long list. But I've been fortunate to be pretty intelligent, which I know isn't true for others.

So, those terrible, horrible, mean Russians and Syrians have called a unilateral halt of operations in Aleppo to allow civilians to escape. Since evacuations have been successful many times in the past ...

... among others ... there is no reason to believe that this evacuation couldn't be successful either, if the terrorists allow it to be so.

Quote:

The Syrian army has stopped “active military activities” against militants in the city of Aleppo, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Thursday refering to the fact that this is needed to allow civilians to withdraw from the battleground. The statement was made on the sidelines of a meeting of ministers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Lavrov made the announcement following the meeting with US State Department Secretary, John Kerry on the Syrian issue.

Another unilateral ceasefire by Syrian government forces in Aleppo has already caused a sceptical reaction among the expert community interested in the Syrian conflict. Many believe that Aleppo militants will sabotage again the withdrawal of civilians from the city because militants need the local population as a human shield against government forces and as a reason of constant diplomatic and media pressure on Syria and Russia.

Another important question raised by Syrian experts is: Was the Russian decision to push the unilateral ceasefire related to Washinton’s alleged attempts to save US intelligence and special service members from the Aleppo pocket? On Tuesday Al-Hadas news agency reported, citing own source, that the negotiations were aimed to assist US spies, including an intelligence officer embedded with militants and an informant named Balal Abdel Karim to leave Aleppo.

While SyriaDirect is always a day or two late (only now are they posting about the "rebel" losses in Aleppo; I guess they have to check in with the State Department before posting anything!) liveuamap doesn't show any new airstrikes in the past roughly 24 hours.

This was from a month ago. Can you say "Meanwhile" and then post something from a month ago?? But anyway. Let me point out that the report of casualties comes from the SOHR, which you have trashed repeatedly and at length and called unreliable. I believe you said they don't even have anyone working on the ground in Syria. Now you're quoting them as your source for 20 coalition civilian casualties?

It would appear, not for the first time, that you are full of bullshit.

SAYS WHO? Vested anti-Assad "activists"? Terrorists who don't mind posting (apparently) fake rescue videos or killing people in a false-flag Sarin attack, just to precipitate US bombing in Syria? (And then posting staged pictures for the USA-press to eat up?)

Now, here is something to chew on: Russian MOD just yesterday said that they have had NO ... let me repeat NO ... air operations over Aleppo since October. I wish I could find that statement again, it is very intriguing. Now either activists on the ground have been deliberately misreporting what's going on in east Aleppo, or the Russian MOD has unimaginably large brass balls, or people on the ground are confusing artillery strikes with air strikes, or Syrian airstrikes with Russian ones, but there was definitely something hinky going on with the reportage from (what used to be) the terrorist enclave.

Meanwhile, I would imagine that the western press would be all over those internally-displaced persons from east Aleppo ... Yanno, they have been crying over those trapped* civilians for months

*trapped by the so-called rebels

you would THINK that their dear readers would want a follow-up as to what happened to them! How many are there? (This would be not only a useful cross-check on previous reported estimates but also necessary for aid planning) Where are they going? How are they being settled? Who is providing aid?

But western readers are curiously uncurious and western press focuses on a few people here and there, but no "big picture" reporting. The only overall reporting that I can find is Russian press, which says that 50,000 people left east Aleppo in the past 48 hours. https://southfront.org/since-today-morning-1217-militants-surrendered-

I suppose that once our government - or the UN- acknowledges these IDPs, then they might be morally - or optically - obligated to provide aid.

Nope. You're either lying, or just being dumb. 2 ways that you could've checked what you just said and realised that it is obviously wrong:

1. There's no mention in the WaPo article about the specific airstrike cited by the SOHR (the village was named as Al-Heisha)
2. The 54 US military 'vetted' deaths are over a 6 month period from March 31st - October 22nd. The dates of the airstrike that the SOHR claim killed 20 was November 9th - outside the period that the US military were even looking at.

US Military Admits: We Deliberately Bombed a Hospital in Iraq

Military spokesperson says "it's very difficult to ascertain with full and total fidelity" that no civilians were killed

The U.S. military said Thursday that it intentionally bombed a hospital in Mosul, Iraq as part of its efforts to "eradicate" Islamic State (ISIS) fighters.

The attack on the Al Salam hospital complex took place Wednesday at the request of Iraqi forces, with coalition aircraft using "precision-guided munitions," Air Force Col. John Dorrian, spokesperson for the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS, told reporters.

He said "it's very difficult to ascertain with full and total fidelity" that there were no civilian casualties, whether in the building targeted or elsewhere within the hospital complex.

ISIS fighters, Dorrian said, "were using the facility to fire heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades at the Iraqi security forces in the area." The strike on the "normally protected facility" allowed the Iraqi forces "to fall back to a more defensible position," he said.

The "protection of civilians," he said later in the press conference, "has been a centerpiece, a foundational element of the campaign to liberate Mosul."

The military is not carrying out an investigation but rather an "assessment" of the strike, the spokesperson added.

The battle to reclaim Mosul from ISIS fighters, which began in October, has left civilians, including roughly 600,000 children, trapped and facing a worsening humanitarian situation.

In the meantime, ISIL has re-taken Palmyra ... and I'm sure that KRAPO and GSTRING and THUGR got a little frisson of joy, because overall they would rather back terrorists than see Russia and Assad successful. But they smooth over that cognitive dissonance by deluding themselves that there really is some sort of "moderate rebel group" still active in Syria. In any case ...

... there was unusual scathing criticism of the Syrian Army which was left defending Palmyra posted on SouthFront:

Quote:

ISIS terrorists seized the ancient city of Palmyra from Syrian government forces. The terrorist group also took control of Biyarat, Dawah and Hayyan oil facility west of Palmyra after a series of clashes with the Syrian army and the National Defense Forces (NDF). Terrorists also attacked the Qadri farms and shelled government forces in the outskirts of the Tayfor Airbase. Heavy clashes were also at the Tiyas village near the Tayfor Airbase, but the Syrian army repelled ISIS attacks there.

ISIS was able to achieve all these gains despite massive airstrikes by the Syrian Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Forces. Only Russian warplanes and helicopters have delivered over 150 airstrikes on ISIS terrorists near Palmyra since Saturday. On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that eleven battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, 31 cars with heavy machineguns, and over 300 militants were destroyed.

This was a major military effort by ISIL, not just a group of merrie men with AK-47s. I wonder, given the equipment that was captured by ISIL what the net net is. Also, now the SAA and RAF will have to bomb their own equipment in order to retake Palmyra.

Quote:

Government forces are now regrouping and deploying reinforcements in the area west of Palmyra and conducting a pre-emptive shelling of ISIS units before the counter-attack.

ISIS has a 4,000-strong attack force in the area and is readying to continue the advance. In Palmyra it has seized a high number of military equipment from government forces and Russian military advisers.

The breakthrough and rapid advancement of the ISIS took place due to fundamental mistakes of commanders of units of the Syrian Army and the NDF

And their Russian advisors

Quote:

, deployed in the Palmyra area, who just let their guard down. They did not pay due attention to fortification activities, processes of equipping positions with engineering and combat hardware, as well as were carelessness during tactical reconnaissance and assessment of the forces and means of attackers.
In other words, they didn't see this major assault coming, and they didn't have tank traps, outposts, and other fortification necessary, and they sure as hell didn't let Damascus know what was going on. "All clear on the eastern front!" was prolly the message going back to HQ.

Quote:

As a result, commanders did not report the all necessary information to the higher command in Damascus on time, thereby, deluding it. However, this fact does not remove the responsibility from the central command and the Russian assist and advise mission.

There are several reasons, which explain the emergence of so many mistakes at one and the same time:

Wrong informing from outlying areas;
Negligence in reconnaissance;
Focusing of the attention on the military operation in the city of Aleppo;
Unexpected redeployment of new ISIS units from Iraq to Syria, as well as involvement of the most experienced ISIS commanders of the senior and middle levels in the offensive;
Unexpected large number of suicide bombers, involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, clashes continued in the city of Aleppo where government forces renewed the military operation amid the collapsing ceasefire efforts by Russia. The army its allies liberated Al-Asilah, Ma`adi and Bab al Maqam. Heavy clashes also took place in Sheikh Saeed. However, December 12 morning, government forces were in the control of the area.

One picture of people who had been shot lying on the street was captioned (by guess who?) as "Aleppo massacre by Syrian soldiers", although it was originally captioned in 2014 as "ISIL executes defectors"

There was an interesting picture tweeted of a large number of men lined up against a wall. ONE caption (from guess who?) was "Men and boys singled out, genocide in the making". ANOTHER caption said "Mass surrender of rebels".

Seriously dood, the "rebels" and "White Helmets" that you heart bleeds for so much are not above staging events and making false claims, all for you. And the western media is not above going along with it, even with "on the ground" reporters, as they stage little vignettes with groups that they want to promote ("Where do you want me to run? From here to there?") in order to create a specific narrative. Of course, so does Russia. I understand that ALL sides do it, but do you?

According to a study published in January 2014 by Theodore Postol and Richard Lloyd, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the rockets used in the attack had a range of about two kilometers, indicating the munitions could not have been fired from the 'heart' or from the Eastern edge of the Syrian Government Controlled Area shown in the Intelligence Map published by the White House

KPO's and G's bullshit never stops.

Quote:

Ake Sellstrom, head of the UN chemical-weapons inspection team, said the rebels significantly exaggerated the number of dead and injured treated in Al Ghouta hospitals. “We saw the capability of those hospitals, and it is impossible that they could have turned over the amount of people that they claim they did.” The discrepancy was explained when The Wall Street Journal revealed that U.S. intelligence had scanned the rebel videos with face recognition software to count the number of dead.
In other words, bodies were moved around and staged by the so-called "rebels"

Quote:

Second, serious questions arose about the White House claim that the Sarin rockets were fired from the heart of Assad-controlled Damascus. The New York Times and Human Rights Watch analyses assumed that the rockets were fired from over nine kilometers away.

***

But a report published by missile experts showed otherwise. Richard Lloyd is a former UN weapons inspector and currently works at Tesla Labs in Arlington, Virginia. Theodore A. Postol is a professor of science, technology, and national security policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston.

They analyzed the data presented by the UN inspectors concerning the Sarin-laden rockets. They concluded that the rockets would have a maximum range of two kilometers. When asked about this issue at a press conference, Sellstrom concurred that the two kilometer range would be a “fair guess.” He later indicated the rockets could have been fired as close as one kilometer.

Lloyd and Postol superimposed the two kilometer rocket range onto the White House maps. Their report said, “These munitions could not possibly have been fired at east Ghouta from the ‘heart,’ or from the eastern edge, of the Syrian government-controlled area shown in the intelligence map published by the White House on Aug. 30, 2013.”

The report noted that these “improvised artillery rockets” could have been constructed by the army or the rebels. “The indigenous chemical munition could be manufactured by anyone who has access to a machine shop with modest capabilities, that is, the claim is incorrect that only the Syrian government could manufacture the munition.” The New York Times wrote about the report and noted the much shorter range but never retracted its erroneous reports that the rockets must have been fired from the Mount Qasioun military complex.

Poking holes in the U.S. government’s case doesn’t automatically mean the rebels were responsible, however. Were the rebels militarily capable and politically willing to carry out a massive war crime against their own supporters?

The Syrian Version

As a liquid, Sarin is quite volatile and can’t be stored for very long because it can corrode storage containers and warheads. So Sarin precursor chemicals are stored separately and then mixed prior to use. They can be mixed in a lab by trained technicians. Mixing in the battlefield can be very dangerous to both the technician and anyone nearby. The Syrian army has admitted having Sarin precursors in large quantities. Some extremist rebel groups may have had some as well.

I spent some time in Damascus interviewing government officials and experts about the chemical-weapons issue. The Syrians presented a version of events sharply at odds with the U.S. government narrative.

On March 19, 2013, rebels used Sarin against a pro-government neighborhood in the village of Khan Al Asal near Aleppo, according to Dr. Bassam Barakat, a medical doctor and pro-government political consultant. He told me that blood samples and other physical evidence were sent to Russia for analysis. Officials there wrote a 100-page report indicating rebel use of Sarin and delivered it to the United Nations, but neither party ever made it public. According to Barakat, the Russians confirmed that the Sarin had ori

"The lessons from Aleppo’s tragic fate:"

Quote:

GROZNY, Dresden, Guernica: some cities have made history by being destroyed. Aleppo, once Syria’s largest metropolis, will soon join their ranks. Its 1,000-year-old Muslim heritage has turned to dust; Russian aircraft have targeted its hospitals and schools; its citizens have been shelled, bombed, starved and gassed (see article). Nobody knows how many of the tens of thousands who remain in the last Sunni Arab enclave will die crammed inside the ruins where they are sheltering. But even if they receive the safe passage they have been promised, their four-year ordeal in Aleppo has blown apart the principle that innocent people should be spared the worst ravages of war. Instead, a nasty, brutish reality has taken hold—and it threatens a more dangerous and unstable world.

To gauge the depth of Aleppo’s tragedy, remember that the first protests against Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad, in 2011 saw Sunnis marching cheerfully alongside Shias, Christians and Kurds. From the start, with extensive help from Iran, Mr Assad set out to destroy the scope for peaceful resistance by using violence to radicalise his people. Early on, his claim that all rebels were “terrorists” was outrageous. Today some are. There were turning-points when the West might have stepped in—by establishing a no-fly zone, say; or a haven where civilians could shelter; or even a full-scale programme of arming the rebels. But, paralysed by the legacy of Iraq and Afghanistan, the West held back. As the fighting became entrenched, the need to intervene grew, month by bloody month. But the risk and complexity of intervening grew faster. As Mr Assad was about to topple, Russia joined the fray, acting without conscience and to devastating effect. Aleppo’s fall is proof that Mr Assad has prevailed and of Iran’s influence. But the real victory belongs to Russia, which once again counts in the Middle East.

...

Plenty of people share the blame. After Mr Assad drenched his people in nerve gas, crossing an American red line, Britain’s parliament voted against taking even limited military action. As millions of people fled to Syria’s neighbours, including Lebanon and Jordan, most European countries looked the other way—or put up barriers to keep refugees out.

Particular blame falls on Barack Obama. America’s president has treated Syria as a trap to be avoided. His smug prediction that Russia would be bogged down in a “quagmire” there has proved a historic misjudgment.

Aleppo Victory… US and its Crime Partners Suffer ‘Meltdown of Sanity’

The US and its terrorist-sponsoring partners are seeing their criminal regime-change project in ruins, as the Syrian army and its allies win a spectacular victory to retake the strategically important city of Aleppo.

Western governments and their flunkies at the UN are cynically, perversely decrying a «meltdown of humanity».

Closer to the truth is their own «meltdown of sanity». This is because the official Western narrative about the Syrian war is finally being exposed on a glaring scale.

The exposure for the whole world to see is one of a systematic, fake propaganda cover that concealed a criminal enterprise – an enterprise involving terrorist proxies, or fake moderate rebels, whom the Western governments have sponsored for the past six years in a conspiracy to overthrow the government of Syria. The gravity of this systematic crime committed by Washington and its various partners is now unfolding.

Unable to cope with their own cognitive dissonance over the criminality, the Western governments and their complicit corporate news media are resorting to outright denial and to compounding lies with even more lies.

Instead of dealing with the reality that Syrian state forces have recaptured Aleppo from brutal, illegally armed groups, which the West and its regional clients have bankrolled and armed, the West distorts the dramatic victory as the «fall of Aleppo». One report on American channel CNN even referred to the victorious Syrian army and its allies as «persecutors».

With typical unhinged emotion, US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power cited unverified reports of civilians being executed in Aleppo, and slammed Syria and its allies Russia and Iran for having «no shame». It is Power and her Western partners-in-crime, including top UN officials, who should be hanging their heads in shame.

Among the hysterical soundbites about alleged atrocities and slaughter being lobbed around this week was this from UN «humanitarian» official Jens Laerke who said Aleppo was seeing a «meltdown of humanity». Catchy words, but divorced from reality.

Western news media outlets were screaming headlines alleging summary executions of women and children by the Syrian army and its Russian, Iranian and Lebanese allies as they moved in to finally retake the whole of the northern city.

Outgoing UN chief Ban Ki-Moon talked in disparaging tones about an «uncompromising military victory», while his underlings Rupert Colville and Jan Egeland decried «hellish» conditions and «war crimes» committed by Syria and Russia.

The problem is that all these sensational, reckless assertions are based on unverified claims by anonymous «activists» or persons involved with militants – militants who are integrated with terror groups like Jaysh al Fatah, Jabhat al Nusra, Ahrar al Sham and Nour al din al Zenki. All of them affiliated with the internationally proscribed Al Qaeda terrorist network – which the Western governments claim to be at war with.

It truly is a grotesque revelation when Western governments and UN officials publicly spout propaganda on behalf of terrorist groups.

Samantha Power and her British counterpart at the UN Matthew Rycroft cited UN «reports» of 82 civilians being executed, including 11 women and 13 children, by the pro-government Syrian forces during the final hours of recapturing Aleppo. But the same UN «reports» were themselves based on unverified sources supposedly embedded among the terrorists. This is not reportage. It is simply recycling rumors aimed at saving the necks of terrorist groups.

The simple fact of the information coming from unverified sources did not stop the UN, Power, Rycroft and the raft of Western media outlets, including the Washington Post, CNN, Guardian, Independent, France 24 etc, presenting the claims as if they were fact.

Where the hell do you get your news, 1kiki?

The governments of Syria and Russia are presenting a very different picture of the crisis in Aleppo from that portrayed by the UN, as the battle for the city draws to a close:

In Moscow, media quoted praise from Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov for a ‘successful and humane’ Syrian operation to liberate the east of the city.

He was also quoted as saying on Tuesday that militants have produced staged videos showing ‘Russian bombardments’ in Syria.

To illustrate claims that the rebels ruled with a reign of terror, a mother, fleeing with her son, showed injuries on his back to Syrian TV.

“Look at his body! Why are we coming? Why are we coming here? Because we wanted to get rid of them…They would not let us go,” she said.

Russian media also presented images of Aleppo residents “celebrating the impending liberation of their city”.

More than 100,000 civilians were held “hostage” as human shields in Aleppo by “terrorists”, the Russian defence ministry spokesman is quoted as saying by the Tass news agency.

They left for Syrian government-controlled areas, he says, as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Also, everyone except Russia is to blame for the loss of Palmyra.

That’s the gist of this Sunday’s flagship news shows on Russian television.

The ~250,000 figure was from weeks ago, before the Russian/Assad offensive. Since then many tens of thousands have indeed made it out of the warzone. Here's a quote from the Russian MOD, reported by Russian media on Dec 11th, about 50,000 civilians fleeing the fighting in just 2 days:

Over the past 48 hours, up to 50,000 people have been evacuated from eastern Aleppo, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Major General Igor Konashenkov has reported.
More than 20,000 residents left eastern Aleppo in the first part of Saturday, and 1,217 militants laid down their weapons,” Konashenkov said.

My guess is you'll pivot from scoffing at the "supposed tens of thousands" of civilians in east Aleppo, to boasting about how well the cuddly Assad is taking care of them all (and not at all just for the cameras).

TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT:

At Least 14 US Coalition Military Officers Captured by Syrian Special Forces in East Aleppo Bunker

DAMASCUS – According to two reports coming out of Aleppo today, at least 14 US Coalition military officers were captured this morning in an East Aleppo bunker by Syrian Special Forces.

This story was quietly leaked by Voltaire.net, who announced, “The Security Council is sitting in private on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 17:00 GMT, while NATO officers were arrested this morning by the Syrian Special Forces in a bunker in East Aleppo.”

Fares Shehabi MP, a prominent Syrian Parliamentarian and head of Aleppo’s Chamber of Commerce published the names of the Coalition officers on his Facebook page on the 15th December (emphasis added):

Mutaz Kanoglu – Turkey
David Scott Winer – USA
David Shlomo Aram – Israel
Muhamad Tamimi – Qatar
Muhamad Ahmad Assabian – Saudi
Abd-el-Menham Fahd al Harij – Saudi
Islam Salam Ezzahran Al Hajlan – Saudi
Ahmed Ben Naoufel Al Darij – Saudi
Muhamad Hassan Al Sabihi – Saudi
Hamad Fahad Al Dousri – Saudi
Amjad Qassem Al Tiraoui – Jordan
Qassem Saad Al Shamry – Saudi
Ayman Qassem Al Thahalbi – Saudi
Mohamed Ech-Chafihi El Idrissi – Moroccan

Listen to Fares Shehabi’s interview on the Sunday Wire radio show: ‘Liberation Aleppo‘

In addition to Voltaire.net, the other original report was provided by Damascus-based Syrian journalist Said Hilal Alcharifi. According to Alcharifi, captured “NATO” officers were from a number of member states including the US, France, Germany and Turkey, as well as Israel. Here is his statement (translated from French):

“Thanks to information received, Syrian authorities discovered the headquarters of high ranking western/NATO officers in the basement of an area in East Aleppo and have captured them alive. Some names have already been given to Syrian journalists, myself included. The nationalities are US, French, British, German, Israeli, Turkish, Saudi, Moroccan, Qatari etc. In light of their nationalities and their rank, I assure you that the Syrian government have a very important catch, which should enable them to direct negotiations with the countries that have tried to destroy them.”

Although these initial reports describe the individuals in question as “NATO” officers, it’s unlikely they would have been carrying NATO colors on a covert operation – and might be more accurately labeled as US Coalition officers. Note that early reports suggest that these are not standard ‘street rebel’ or jihadi terrorists but actual Coalition military personnel and field commanders.

21WIRE have also received unconfirmed reports yesterday that militants had fired a missile into Ramousa area and then tried, unsuccessfully, to get cars out of East Aleppo. It’s possible this incident could be related to today reports of captured western operatives.

This report from the Syrian Arab News Agency (emphasis added):

“The agreement on evacuating militants and weapons from the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city has been suspended after terrorist groups breached it, special sources told SANA correspondent in Aleppo.

The sources said that the suspension of the agreement will remain in place until obtaining guarantees that oblige the terrorist groups to abide by all the agreement’s provisions, stressing on the Syrian side’s full adherence to the agreement and its keenness to end the bloodshed and restore security and stability to the entire city of Aleppo.”

Earlier, SANA reporter said that the terrorist groups have breached the agreement as they smuggled heavy weapons, including TOW missiles, heavy machineguns and kidnapped people via the buses and cars transporting terrorists and their families towards the southwestern countryside of Aleppo city.

The reporter added that the terrorist groups fired shells and sniper bullets on the buses and ambulances at al-Ramousseh crossing, noting that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) which are superv

About 8,000 people have left since Thursday (December 15) and there were up to 250,000 civilians - 100,000 of them children - trapped in east Aleppo when it came under siege.

Wiki says the offensive began in October. Cries of 250,000 potential civilian casualties started in November long after the offensive started and - one presumes - long after civilians had already sustained casualties. And that number is still being cited as of yesterday.

I have a genuine concern for, and interest in, the civilians of both Mosul and Aleppo suburb. They were both civilian populations taken hostage by ISIS, under the assumption that they would be human shields. They were both ruled by ISIS with an iron fist. Both areas suffered massive physical damage.

Considering the similarities between the two, I would expect that the ISIS horror stories coming out of Mosul would be echoed by the people of Aleppo suburb. So I'll find similarities, differences, AND WESTERN MEDIA SILENCE ON ALEPPAN LIVES UNDER ISIS, to all be valuable information.

MEANWHILE - where is the US in offering aid to the recently liberated civilians of Aleppo suburb? Where is the UN?

My GUESS, which I'll wait to see if it comes true, is that - once again - the west is using Aleppan civilians for political gain. I suspect any aid offered will be too little, too late, in order to put maximum economic burden on Assad and Russia. Crocodile tears over those poor, poor civilians by the west notwithstanding.

In any case, comparisons between news reports coming out of Mosul and those coming out of Aleppo should be interesting; as well as looking for admissions that there weren't 250,000 civilians trapped by fighting - or conversely, complete silence on the topic 'how many civilians in Aleppo'; and also, waiting for US/ UN offers of aid for civilians.

These areas of obvious discrepancy between one narrative and the other, between past narrative and present narrative, or between rhetoric and action, I think will illuminate the facts of US/ western interests.

Yes, the offensive has been going on for weeks and weeks, that's exactly my point. The regime has been carving off bits of rebel territory one after another. Siggy has been posting in this thread about tens of thousands of civilians being "liberated" - and that was before the 50,000 in 2 days cited by the Russian military.

So Siggy, Kiki. First your Russian propaganda tells you that the 250,000 figure of civilians in east Aleppo is inflated by lying Western media, and is more like 30,000. Then, later, it casually drops a Russian military quote that 50,000 civilians have escaped the fighting in just 2 days of a 3 month long offensive.

And neither of you bats an eyelid?

Syrian "Rebels" Attack, Burn Aleppo Evacuation Buses

While the UN condemns Syrian and Russian "atrocities" in the battle over East Aleppo, which as noted previously was a key victory for the Assad regime in the past week, one which will end the stalemate and sway the balance of power in the ongoing war between regime forces and US-coalition armed rebels, little attention had been paid to the subversive tactics employed by such "moderate rebels" as the al Qaeda linked al-Nusra front.

That may change after five buses en route to evacuate the sick and injured from two government-held villages in Syria's Idlib province were attacked and burned by rebels.

Five buses were attacked and burned by “armed terrorists” while en route to militant-held villages after an evacuation deal was struck between the Syrian government and rebels, Syrian state television has reported. According to Reuters, the deal was reached earlier on Sunday, citing al-Ikhbariya TV news. It will see the remaining militants and their families evacuated from east Aleppo in return for the evacuation of people in militant-held villages in Idlib province, al-Foua and Kafraya.

Syrian state television has reported that five buses were attacked and burned by “armed terrorists” while en route to al-Foua and Kefraya. However, most of them, as well as Red Crescent vehicles, reached the entrance to the villages, the report said.

Syrian state news agency SANA reported earlier that evacuation buses had entered the last militant-held district of eastern Aleppo, Ramousah, under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Syrian Arab Red Cross. State television showed live footage of buses and a van bearing a Syrian Arab Red Crescent flag parked next to a highway intersection in Ramousah. Several large white cars marked with Red Crescent and Red Cross symbols also appeared in the footage.

As BBC adds, the convoy was traveling to Foah and Kefraya, besieged by rebel fighters. Pro-government forces have been demanding that people be allowed to leave the mainly Shia villages in order for the evacuation of east Aleppo to restart, with thousands of people waiting to leave in desperate conditions, reports say.

Despite delays caused by disagreements over the new evacuation plan, convoys were said to be traveling to both eastern Aleppo and the government-held villages in Idlib province on Sunday. However, UK-based monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said six buses were attacked and torched on the way to Foah and Kefraya.

Bitter In Aleppo Defeat, US And EU Seek To Further Demonize Russia
Submitted by Finian Cunningham via Stratgic-Culture.org,

As Russian forces help liberate the Syrian city of Aleppo this week from a four-year terrorist siege, Washington and Europe step up threats of cyber war and economic aggression with sanctions. That’s no coincidence. It is the response of accomplices bitter in defeat.

Perverse isn’t it? Instead of celebrating with the people of Syria over the liberation of Aleppo from terrorists; instead of sending massive humanitarian aid to the tens of thousands of civilians freed after being held under siege for four years by terrorist gangs; instead of commending Russia for its decisive role in restoring peace to Syria’s second biggest city, the US and European Union turn reality on its head and further demonize Moscow.

The perverse behavior by Washington and its European satraps is simply a case of sour grapes. Very sour grapes.

They have been proven spectacularly wrong about Syria. The liberation of Aleppo this week exposes the Western governments and media in their unrelenting falsehoods and systematic complicity in the Syrian war. This was never a pro-democracy uprising. It was a Western-backed criminal regime-change operation that was unleashed in March 2011, and which is now staring at ignominious defeat.

The blood of up to half a million people and many more maimed is on the hands of American and European governments.

It is no coincidence that Barack Obama this week invoked his putative presidential authority to double down on US intelligence claims that Russia hacked into the American elections to get Donald Trump into the White House. The stakes were raised to new unwieldy heights with White House claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally sanctioned the alleged hacking of Hillary Clinton’s emails. And Obama is now recklessly warning that his country will respond with cyber-warfare «at a place and time of our choosing».

Meanwhile, European Union leaders this week decreed that economic and diplomatic sanctions on Russia would be extended for another six months. The official reason for the measures was the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, but it is obvious that the dramatic developments in Syria were the real motivating factor behind the EU’s decision to further penalize Russia.

Addressing the EU summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel deplored atrocities allegedly committed in the northern city of Aleppo by Syrian state forces and their Russian and Iranian allies. European Council President Donald Tusk lamented that the EU was not «indifferent to the suffering of civilians in Aleppo».

But where is the evidence either from Obama on alleged Russian cyberattacks to subvert the American presidential election or from the EU on alleged Russian (and Syrian) atrocities in Aleppo. There is, glaringly, no evidence. Yet on the back of breathless assertions, Washington is threatening to «retaliate», and European leaders are slapping more damaging sanctions on Russia. This is an insane policy of unjustified aggression.

It is especially insane considering that present and former members of US intelligence agencies do not support the White House’s assertions about Russian cyberattacks. Indeed respected former US intelligence experts have cogently argued that Washington’s claims of Russian hacking are completely spurious. Moreover, two polls reported by the Washington Times and Washington Post this week also show that the majority of American people do not believe that Russia interfered in the US election.

As for the American and European claims about «massacres» in Aleppo, amplified by the dutiful mainstream media all week, there is neither evidence nor testimonies from the tens of thousands of civilians pouring out of the former terror enclaves. The reckless claims are merely propaganda rumors put out by terrorist apologists and recycled by Western media. Perversely unreported in the Western media are the real stories of civilians having

Scrolling past the usual tripe from Siggy and her blogs...

Some information on the burnt buses, and the Shia villages in question:

Quote:

Fua and Kefraya have been key bargaining chips throughout the conflict. Both have been besieged, but not with the same effect as east Aleppo.

For the past 18 months, Iran has tried to broker a deal with the powerful Islamist militia Ahrar al-Sham which would allow the remaining villagers to be relocated to Zabadani and Madaya, between Damascus and the Lebanese border.

In return, Sunni residents of those towns would be sent to Fua and Kefraya, as part of a population swap that would change the geopolitics of the region and help build a Shia presence from the suburbs of Damascus into Lebanon’s Bekaa valley, and beyond to southern Lebanon.

The population swaps were not part of the original terms of the Aleppo evacuation deal, which were brokered between Russia and Turkey. However, soon after the deal was announced early last week, Iran made a series of its own demands.

In addition to relocating sectarian groups, Iran demanded the bodies of slain militia fighters that it had sent to Syria, including members of Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iraqi militias. It also demanded information about any fighters that had been taken prisoner.

The chaos surrounding the evacuation deal underscores the stakes, with east Aleppo in its death throes and the six-year war beginning to lose steam for the first time. It also underlines how a splintered opposition cannot control all the elements in the fight against the Syrian leadership, even as tens of thousands of civilians remain cornered, many of them in the open with little food in the depths of winter.

The Free Syria Army, an umbrella organisation of moderate rebel groups, said: “The people who resisted in Aleppo are paying the price of the irresponsible acts of a few. This was a reckless act endangering the lives of more than 50,000 people.

-evacuation-could-soon-resume

This situation is entering a dangerous phase. 30,000+ civilians are in the process of slowly starving/freezing to death, some right out in the open air. Iran feels in a position to demand ethnic cleansing of Sunnis, in accordance with its own geo-strategic ambitions, and the rebels have no choice but to accept, but it's in the hand of the most extreme, Al-Qaeda-linked rebels in other parts of the country to hold up their end of the deal for them. Assad certainly won't flinch at the thought of 30,000 more of his rebellious subjects dying an agonising death, especially while Al-Qaeda-linked rebels are getting the blame and advertising themselves to the world.

This could end badly.

Buses Attacked, Burned en Route to Evacuate Besieged Syrian Villages

Meanwhile evacuations from east Aleppo resumed on Sunday afternoon.

Several buses on the way to evacuate ill and injured people from the besieged Syrian villages of al-Foua and Kefraya were attacked and burned on Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Syrian state television said.

Some buses, as well as Red Crescent vehicles, reached the entrance to the villages in Idlib province, which are besieged by insurgents.

The coalition of forces fighting for the government of President Bashar al-Assad are demanding people to be allowed to leave the two villages in exchange for allowing evacuations of rebels and civilians from east Aleppo.

Evacuations from the city resumed on Sunday afternoon.

On the ground, prospects for swift evacuations from Aleppo and other besieged areas were thrown into doubt again Sunday after militants burned buses assigned to the rescue operation.

OK, now let me dig through KRAPO's shit to find nuggets of more shit.

Quote:

uh huh. Here is their hx, according to Wikipedia:

Quote:

On 28 March 2015, after four days of fighting, rebels captured Idlib city and managed to besiege the towns of Kafriya and al-Fu'ah. Thousands of civilians were trapped since. Army of Conquest and its main component al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) since then imposed a full siege blocking all humanitarian supplies to the towns and several executions were reported to happen in Idlib province for people accused to smuggle goods into Kafriya and al-Fu'ah
Aside from describing the siege, you should have noticed that al-Nusra is very active in Idlib. So when the Syrian government attacks Idlib, please don't come crying to me about those poor "moderate rebels".

Quote:

... the Army of Conquest ... launched an assault on al-Fu'ah ... On 31 August, rebels launched a powerful attack on the Shia enclave ... Between 3 September and 5 September, the rebels intensively shelled the enclave and launched a number of attacks on al-Fu'ah and Kafriya ... On 18 September, the rebels launched a new attack on the enclave, firing almost 400 shells and rockets, while nine car bombs (including seven suicide bombers) were detonated at government positions. The clashes led to the death of at least 29 rebels and 21 government soldiers, as well as seven civilians. ... According to government claims, the rebels lost over 100 fighters, including 31 from foreign countries
Oh those poor "moderate rebels"!

Quote:

The overall number of suicide bombers with VBIEDs that attacked al-Fou’aa and Kafraya in the battle of 18–19 September was estimated to be 26 VBIEDs. The attackers were: 11 Uyghur Chinese, one Lebanese, 2 Saudis and 11 Syrians.
On 20 September, a second cease-fire in ... al-Fou’aa/Kafriya was implemented, where the rebels allowed humanitarian aid to the besieged civilians of al-Fou’aa and Kafriya. A violation of this cease-fire was reported the next day as the rebels resumed shelling the towns.

Aid convoys arrived in January and July of 2016, but the villages have been besieged this whole time.

Again, please note "moderate rebels" are not active there.

More than 50,000??? Are you shitting me??? (Oh that's right, you are.)

The number of evacuated "moderate rebels" and their families from Aleppo numbers about 3,000 so far. Assuming that the evacuation continues for another few days, let's assume 5,000. Not 30,000.

Where is UN aid?

The UN going to 'observe' the evacuation.

Meanwhile, I've searched the internet to find out who should be credited with performing the actual evacuation. Because it's obviously not the US, NATO, or the UN. The answer is ... Russia and the Red Cross. Not that you'll find that anywhere in western media.

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations has criticized UN’s failure to properly organize humanitarian evacuations of the wounded from terrorist-held areas of Aleppo. The UN envoy to Syria defended the team, pinning the blame on the warring parties.
“We regret to note that the United Nations has not properly worked out an operation to evacuate the sick and the wounded,” Vitaly Churkin noted at the UN Security Council session, according to RIA.
The ambassador added that the UN work with various opposition groups in Aleppo and the local council was “left to take care of itself.” He stressed that the UN personnel did not “exert the necessary pressure” on “sponsors” of illegal armed groups to convince them to cooperate with the aid workers on the ground.
Besides criticizing the UN team, the Russian envoy also accused entities that have influence over fighters in besieged neighborhoods of Aleppo of not applying enough pressure on the militants to make the most of the Russian-Syrian humanitarian pause.
