Serenity. "Incoming!" A man yells at the sight of the falling missile. He ducks under some already fallen debry, only to be crushed, but a tank. My name is Traves Grey, a soldier. A soldier in a war that I no longer know what's right. Just now I killed my younger brother. Another soldier, he was lost, along with me. But I killed him, before he could kill me. I've sided with the Independents, now. They may be small in numbers, but they got heart courage and the strength to fight. So I guess that makes me a deserter. An Awall. Doesn't matter now, we're all going to die anyways. "Fire!" I yell, to some of the other fighers, fighting along my side. We fire our rifles, we fire whatever we have. We will give them a fight, we won't give up. We will fight till our deaths. "HEY!" A soldier yells in the middle of a ressesion. "CEO's gone. We gotta get to the nearest officer." I listen to him along with everyone else. "Why, so we can die while we make our way?" Some small man asks, with that cowardly tone. "We can atleast stand tall." The first soldier states bravely. "What else we got?" "Nothing." I calmly say out loud, enough for them to hear me. "But we can stand. I may have killed some of you in the begining, but I'm fighting with you now. If we can get to that officer, we can at least give them one last fight, before it's all over." I didn't know then, but my speech really moved those men. I was their enemy, but now their ally. I had patrol designs, I had weapon layouts at quantities. I was their asset. I was the first to get up and start moving. I headed east, to the old city hall, which by now is in ruins. "Hey!" The soldier with hope calls. "The officer is in the west, by the schools." He notifies me. I turn around and thank that man. I walk, and I shoot. By the time we're out of the shopping complex, I find myself with a small company of at least fifty or so men. I didn't know, that our march to the schools, would kill two- thirds of them. I didn't know I was going to be in those statistics aswell. I walk past a set of toppled stone statues. A searing burn runs down my neck. I fall to my knees, with the searing pain of a red hot bullet. The soldiers run, I tell them to leave. I know I'm going to die. ... Zoe looks at her dismal crew. Kaylee has a burnt arm. Book is gone. Jayne and Wash are trying to find any new recruits who would like to join the team. Simon consoles Kaylee, that everything is going to be alright. While River and Traves stare off of the landing pier, out at the sun rise over the city on five miles of water. "Mal..." Zoe sighs, at the sight of Wash and Jayne, walking up with a familiar face. "Thank you, for coming, Inara." Inara still in her read asain dress, and her hair still up in a bun, smiles and hugs the captain. "I'm gone only a few hours and you guys are already in trouble." "It's not that simple." Kaylee says solemnly as she hugs Inara with her arm in a soft cast. "Why, what's wrong?" ... In sober times it's hard for fun to exist.
