Precious Cargo 2 by April

The trip from the city hadn’t been fun. The younger two, still scared from earlier, were crying, their loud cries giving him a headache. Jayne’s threats of shooting them to shut them up didn’t help either, and certainly didn’t calm down the older child who was already angry at everything it seemed, and quite willing to fight. Jayne didn’t have much time to react before she ran at him kicking and swinging. Got a few good kicks and a solid punch to the face in before he could restrain her and they were able to keep walking.

They were halfway to Serenity before he realized the cargo was falling behind. Looking back to them he saw the oldest child struggling to hold the younger two as the little ones stumbled forward, loosing the battle with sleep. He grabbed one of them ignoring the glare from the older girl as he began walking again.

By the time they arrived at Serenity, it was pouring rain and he was carrying both of the younger children in his arms. Their sleeping heads resting on his shoulders. The oldest following closely behind, nearly asleep herself. Jayne walked a little bit behind them, a black eye forming from where the oldest child had punched him.

He had a feeling the trouble had only just begun.
