Simon walked down the street with his sister, she was getting distracted looking at things then asking what they are. To most of her questions he would ask Kaylee who was walking along beside him.

RIVER: “What’s this do” pointing to a contraption of some sort.

Simon as usual having no idea looked at Kaylee.

KAYLEE: “Its an Aft-Carborator for the Y-3600 class engine” With a “I know something Dr Tam doesn’t know” look on her face.

SIMON: “ERR, What she said” Looking back to River who wasn’t there. He looked back to Kaylee who also wasn’t there he looked around and tried to see past the people but the crowed just kept pushing him forward. In just a split moment he had lost both the girls in his life that he loved.

Simon woke with a jolt but he couldn’t sit up there was a weight on his chest, he figured that it must have been Kaylee which explained why he felt naked. He lay back to wait for sleep to take him again. He was almost asleep when he heard the clanking of an engine part immediately followed by an “Ai Ya” by Kaylee.

The fact that Kaylee was in the engine room and not in his bed didn’t dawn on simon until River kicked him when she rolled over. This bothered Simon a lot, not so much that his sister was in the bed with him (River often used to spend sleepless nights in her bigger brother’s bed). But what bothered him was that he could hear Kaylee heading away from the engine room, most probably to Simons room.

He tried shifting River off him. But River was wide awake and not showing it, she deliberately was making her brother panic. This was one of her annoying little sister days.

Simon roused her just as Kaylee slid open the door. She had quite a puzzled yet surprised look on her face.

SIMON: “Err, we didn’t, I would never, not with River, (to River) did we?” The look on Kaylee’s face went from puzzled to immediate jealousy, then to amusement as River gave a mischevious smile in Kaylee’s direction.

KAYLEE: “Don’t you got something better to do River, like Flying maybe?”

RIVER: “Feds wont arrive in system till 1”

SIMON: “O, zhe zhen shi ge huai le de jin zha, it is 1” as the proximity siren started flashing.

River ran out of the room. Kaylee gave Simon a wicked grin as he started to get dressed.

KAYLEE: “If River can handle a boatful of Reavers I’m sure she can handle a Fed Cruiser” pushing him back down onto his bunk.

Mal was climbing up the ladder as a half dressed River ran by. Buttoning up his shirt he entered the Cockpit. He sat down at his station and smiled as he remembered Wash. The ships original pilot, his dinosaurs were still located on the top of the panel as a reminder.

He remembered the first time he saw Wash, with his silly moustache. And Zoe said she didn’t like him. That certainly changed.

He remembered the time when Wash was playing with those Dinosaurs while He, Zoe and Jayne were salvaging from a Freighter, and a Fed Cruiser snuck right up on them. Gosh that was almost a year ago now Zoe’s pregnant and a little wash junior is on the way.

MALCOM: “I wonder if he’ll like dinosaurs too” mumbling to himself

River knowing what he was thinking, looked first at Mal then at Zoe (more Zoe’s Stomach area), Turning back to Mal she said...

RIVER: “He will”

By now River had done all the navigation calculations in her head and was starting the sequence for a hard burn.

The Fed cruiser arrived in system only being able to see the trail of Serenity’s engine.

FED CAPTAIN: Gorramit, Damn smugglers got one of them early warning systems. * * * * *

Back in the dining area of Serenity the crew assembled for a meal. (It was about lunchtime in the world that they were going)

They were still using the real food that they got from the monastery. It seemed that Book’s garden had flourished in the time that he was away. And it’s a custom not to eat food that a dead man had planted. So the crew was rewarded with it all when they brought Books belongings to the monastery. Shepard Books body was laid to rest next to Mr. Universe’s and Wash’s body.

The conversation between the crew led to their families. Simon didn’t really have much to contribute to the conversation as he has been out of touch with his family.

If only he knew that his parents were back at home regretting that they didn’t help get River out of that place with their son. They were under almost constant watch from the Fed’s just in case Simon did try and make contact with them revealing a location. The Blue Sun organization was very interested in getting their star “pupil” back into their school.

The idea of trying to communicate with his family was on Simons mind ever since they let the entire ‘verse know what happened at Miranda. He was sure his parents were being watched but he was sure there was a way to communicate with them. He had been racking his brain for months trying to think of some way to communicate to his family.

The answer came very simply one day when river was on the cortex trying to absorb as much information as she could.

RIVER: “Damn it happened again.”

SIMON: “What River, what happened again?”

RIVER: “Connection with the cortex dropped out”

SIMON: “River we are in the middle of nowhere, there shouldn’t be any access to the cortex.”

RIVER: “ ‘ wish we still had your dedicated source box, that way I could get access anywhere”

SIMON: “That’s it River you’re a genious” River stood up and bowed at this.

SIMON (cont’d): “ Do you remember the code to that source box?”

RIVER: “ That’s easy 94.374.1973.41-A, But that’s not fun, You wanna know what the Andy Bellview’s code is?”

SIMON: “Maybe later. First I have to send a wave to ¹Mum and Dad” At this River got excited

RIVER: “Really I want to see. Can I be in it? I’m sure Mum loved me more than she loved you.” To this Simon took the bait cause he was in a good mood.

SIMON: “Oh really well we’ll just have to ask her then won’t we.”

He ran off, River had a “not fair, you got a head start” look on her face before she smiled and ran off after him
