Piloted A Firefly Series
Episode 2 Good Luck By Stuart Broughton
The firefly zoomed through the darkness of space at the hands of Jack Cunningham. The worn out engines of Serenity normally made eerie creaking sounds when anyone flew the boat but Jack seemed to have some sort of magic touch that made it’s journeys like joy rides.
“I’m telling you he’s nothing but a friggin phoney,” Complained Mal.
“Okay well he is a very good flyer but wasn’t Wash and you never complained about him,” asked Mal.
“He wore Gorram Hawaiian shirts, anyone who wears Hawaiian shirts is either a fat party freak or an excellent pilot.”
“So you want me to get him to wear Hawaiian shirts.”
“No, I want him off this Boat, he is too good to be a pilot.”
“Now you’re not making any sense.”
“When he shoots you in the back you’ll know what I’m talking about.” Jayne then turned and walked out of the cockpit in which Mal and Jack where sitting.
“God, he could of complained somewhere else than right in front of my face.” Thought Jack aloud.
Mal had heard that there was a big job with a gigantic payoff for the crew on a small moon in the middle of nowhere. So they plotted a course and they were there in no time ready to sign up for the job. There was no sand, no grass and no water in sight when they landed it seemed to be littered with pebbles. Jayne, Mal and Zoe were soon suited up and ready to depart from serenity fully equipped with weapons. It took some wandering on the lonely surface until the team finally came to a small town with no more than seven buildings in it. The round began knocking on the doors looking for a “Mr Sloan.” They should have expected that he was living in the biggest and most Hi-Tec House around. Pressing the button to the next door, Zoe patiently waited.
“Who is it,” sounded the muscular voice of a man from behind the door.
“This is first mate Zoe of transporting ship Serenity, we heard you wanted us to transfer goods for you.”
“Excellent come in,” said the voice again. The door opened and Zoe stepped through, Mal followed only getting the door slammed in his face.
“Hello,” asked Mal. “What about us.”
“Even more importantly what about me,” cried Jayne. Mal looked at him with a look of disgust on his face but he remembered that that was something normal for Jayne.

Zoe found herself walking in darkness trying to find light with her arms out stretched in front of her. Suddenly a bright light turned on behind her, swinging around she bumped into a muscular African American man with dreadlocks. She would expect a man of his stature to be speaking in a deep voice but instead.
“Why are you crying, Mr Sloan,” asked Zoe.
“I so happy that someone has finally has come to remove this terror from my life,” replied the man in between every sob.
“So I guess that’s what were taking to deliver right.”
“Yes how much are you charging up front, First mate Zoe.”
“We charge the conditional 25%.”
“I’m normally willing to pay 100% percent up front just to get it out of my house.”
“Sorry did I say 25% I meant 100%.”
“Fair enough just get this out of my house.” He walked over to a box lying on a table the only object in the room she could see from the help of the one light. “This box contains a diamond,” Zoe’s eyes widened, as she had always wanted a diamond herself. “But this diamond bring troubles and heart break to anyone who owns it.”
“Okay who do you want us to deliver it to,” said Zoe
“No one, I want you to keep it, I’m paying you to have a priceless diamond.” “Right what’s the catch, there is always a catch,” said Zoe not convinced
“I’ve told you who ever owns gets bad luck until they pass it on to the next victim.”
Zoe, Jayne and Mal all entered the hanger of Serenity carrying the box containing the diamond and five big wads of cash. Jayne was the happier than he had ever known that he was up for big pay rise with that much money.
“So where are we off to then Captain,” asked Kaylee to Mal who took off his one size too big coat and chucked it on the floor.
“No where,” replied Mal with a smug grin on his face telling Kaylee that they had either robbed a bank or they where in for some good news.
Zoe explained the story at the dinner table while they all dug into a Big Mac for the first time without scowling. Simon laughed at the fact that it gave Mr Sloan such bad luck that he couldn’t stop crying. No one was in a bad mood the day was perfect their pay off was perfect and now their lives may even be perfect.
“I was waiting for another time,” called out Jack while tapping on his glass. “But this is a great day and I have great champagne in my bag, so I’ll get it and we can all get completely wasted.” Everyone cheered at the thought of wine, which was a courtesy they hadn’t enjoyed for a while now. Jack hurried to his quarters arriving a minutes later with a crate full of wine and beer. There was even a tear in Mal’s eye he was so happy, he hadn’t been drunk in weeks.
Time past and drinking contests started though Kaylee was one of the youngest she could defiantly hold her liqueur. And as for river she wouldn’t touch any of it because she said something like “Pirates are attracted to Beer,” but everyone was to pissed to care including Simon.
“I want to make a toast,” claimed Jack. “To all the women on this boat, I want to tell you you’re all dead sexy and I would give that diamond to you all to share.” The feminine group of the table put their hands over their hearts thinking that was one of the sweetest things they’ve heard, except Zoe. She suddenly started to cry and she sprinted out of the room sobbing while doing so. “Was it something I said,” wandered Jack.
“Nah I think it’s you face, you ugly bugger, you scared her off,” said Jayne and everyone one started to laugh again to drunk to remember about Zoe.
Zoe ran up to the cockpit where she saw Wash’s dinosaurs lying where they usually were untouched by anyone else. She cried and cried she wanted Wash here to enjoy the lovely start to the fortune that diamond was going to bring them. She missed his ginger hair and his Hawaiian shirts and the way he could make a joke out of any situation. She rose her body and turned around now recovered from her sad mood to see a man she had never seen before. He had long black hair, an enormous beard to go with it and an eye patch.
“Wow I’m more drunk than I thought,” muttered Zoe. “Your no pirate your just Mal.”
“No I’m not Little missy.” And with one blow he knocked her out with a large stick he was carrying.
