Does anyone have any info on Angel's overcoat? I refer not to the leather one (which I could never pull off), but the drapey cloth one. Some kind of wool blend, methinks; weighty but not too thick. Any info on manufacturer, fabric, etc would be shiny.

Since, after all, it's all about The Coat!...Besides, it would be good, sardonic fun to confirm my wife's frequent jeers that I've been taking waaay too many wardrobe cues from Angel!

Thanks in advance!

(oh, and please avoid any spoilers which refer to events past "Angel," 2.8, which is as far as I've gotten {deeply digging it, BTW!!}.)

Man, Angel has had so many different coats over the years that I'm not sure which one you're referring to.

I stuck spoiler tags below for wardrobe spoilers, LOL, just in case...it won't ruin the eps for you.

Select to view spoiler:

I do recall a nice one he had in Season 5 that was actually brown. Yeah, the Black Knight in brown!

And I desperately coveted Wesley's brown leather/suede jacket he wore in Season 4. He looked wonderful in it.

Damn. I wish my husband would take a few fashion cues from Angel. Angel's one snappy dresser. Although, my husband did just buy a beautiful black leather trench coat. Doesn't look like any of the coats that Angel or Spike have, but it's pretty cool, all the same.

Wow, I'd no idea Angel was about to undertake such a journey into the land of many coats! I guess the search could be narrowed to those he wore during the first and early second seasons (since this is all I've seen). Just wondering if there are any Browncoats out there with access to some detailed information (or who just have research skills which are superior to mine {not a particularly tall order, that} )

Cool stuff. Nice textures. Good colors (easy to match!). Have to watch out for motorists at night, though!

Cool. there are people in this world who can wear a black leather trench coat. I'm at peace with the fact that I'm not one of them...well, I'm mostly at peace....well, I have a piece of it...

So, how 'bout it? Any wonderful wardrobe wonks out there?

Keep flyin' (first star to the right, and steady on till September!)!!

I think he means the "iconic" one, that Angel sweeps over the camera in the opening sequence as he's walking into the alley.

I can't imagine it'd be very warm, but it hangs down almost to the ground, and billows nicely. It's probably also fairly resilient and/or easy to replace (cloth being cheaper than leather).

The more common leather coat (like I have ) is a bit shorter and stiffer; it doesn't billow as well, but it's probably a bit warmer, more stain-resistant, and less likely to get tangled up in a fight. Downside is that leather coats are surprisingly delicate; accidentally brushing against a brick wall can lacerate them something fierce, to say nothing of getting mauled and thrown around by demons.

Angel, OTOH, seems to have enough money to not have to worry about it, or possibly there're just some really good cheap leather places in L.A.

I think the coat you mean is dark (possibly midnight blue rather than black), fabric not leather, and comes from Hugo Boss--I think they just bought it off the rack.

No touching release dates!

Yup, that's exactly the one I mean!

Actually, what I like about it is that it doesn't hang down to the ground. It's actually around a 3/4-length overcoat, which means it wouldn't constantly keep snagging on your feet when you try to go up stairs, like another trench I have (how isn't Spike constantly stomping the thing when he goes up stairs?!). And yes, it does billow/drape quite fetchingly!

As for warmth, these things usually have a zip or button-out liner for when the mercury drops past a certain point. It'll never be a viable Winter coat, though.

SHINYSEVEN, are you sure it's a Hugo Boss?

Pretty sure it's a Hugo Boss. I remember reading that they paid $1200 for it, which works out to not-that-much-per-episode used. Now,as to why I remember *that* and not which Supreme Court justice voted which way on what case...it's a mystery.

Yeah, but the liner usually messes up the billowy-ness.

I may freeze my ass off, but I'll look good doing it.

*snerkle* Yes, I have, on rare occasion, traded comfort and thermal protection for just a little more of the billow. Ya won't tell any one, will ya?

OTOH, "The Incredibles" has given me a bit more pause with respect to the whole cape-like thing...

Keep flying (but mind the engine intakes!) !!

Noocyte: you're presumably warm-blooded, so insisting on a coat that actually keeps you warm makes sense. Not really a consideration for Angel, though.

The entire cast of BtVS/AtS seem to have rather more outerwear than called for in Southern California most of the year...

No touching release dates!

Fear not, SHINYSEVEN; I'll not be freezing the cockles off my heart for A Look (my genes are coded for tropical climes, so my tolerance for cold is less-than-legendary). I layer like filo dough.

Still, if I know I won't be outdoors for very long, I will sometimes make concessions...

As for the outerwear issue: yah, I've often thought that these folks must be broiling in SoCal, what with all the running and the kicking and the fearing for the fate of the world and all that.

Then again, you get folks running around the Matrix with shades in dark clubs, and still being able to land a punch. In Silver Screen Land, I suppose it really is better to look good than to feel good. And they look mahvellous!

So, have we established that the Iconic Coat is a 1200-bananna Hugo Boss I'll never be able to afford and even if I could, I'd sooner spend it on a really banging sub-woofer (cos you gotta have priorities)?

Now that Winter's here, I've pretty much switched to what I call my Gundam coat. It's this embarassingly thick multi-layered Columbia jacket. And my heavier shoes.

When I walk around outside now I feel more like a big stompy mech than a Lucid/vampire/Witch Hunter.

Well, people 'round here are making brown coats, so why can't there be some enterprising knockoff artiste out there reproducing Angel's gear? Hell, the only really expensive part is the little tag that says "Hugo Boss."

Now, the racing jacket he picked up in Rome, that'd be expensive.

Does Anyone know where I can buy a coat like Angel's one in the opening credits? I've looked all over the web and haven't found anything close!

Yah, I've been searching intermittently since I posted this, and also come up dry.

Closest thing I've found to a lead was this link:

http://www.smgfan.com/articles/b37.htm

which seems to indicate (end of article) that the "Iconic" opening-credits coat may be a DKNY (cha-CHING!!).

I suppose there are ways to track down this information, but I'll be poached if I know what they are...and if I have the energy to find out ('specially since the chances of the effort yielding anything I could remotely justify spending the wampum for are one in...a very large number).

Still, if anyone out there has some kind of link to TPTB, I'd be grateful for a scoop...

Sorry that this so late, only just found this page. While it is not an exact replica, this long black coat is soft and billows much like the 'signature' coat. To be honest i always preferred the longer wool/cotton ones to his shorter leather coats, dont know why. Here it is:
