okay, i was watching dead end and i have to say

Select to view spoiler:

lindsay's rant when he basically quite wolfram and hart is absolutely terrific. the actor was quite good and it was one of those scenes where it is not supposed to be funny, but you end up laughing anyway. when he shoots the guard in the foot and yells out "oooo! that's gonna hurt in the mornin!" i laughed so hard! his rage is clearly apparent and that scene was pulled off really well by the actor. kudos!

I love that episode; it's way under-rated.

I thought that scene was supposed to be funny though but it was definitely one of, if not the funniest scene ever in Angel.

Plus the scene involving a guitar - can I say wow?!

Definitely one of the best S2 eps. And that scene was clearly supposed to be funny.

i am not trying to pick a fight, but i disagree. i felt the scene was more about how lindsay is kind of losing it. how his frustration and conflict in his own mind about what the firm does is tearing him apart. it is kind of like watching a man go slightly insane. of course, there are comedic elements to the scene (his messing up charlie's hair and stuff), but overall, i felt the whole thing was meant to highlight how mad he is. how far he is willing to go and to prove to the firm that they do not want to mess with him once he is gone.

anyway, just my opinion, feel free to completely disagree.

Ok, I will

I don't think Lindsey was going mad at all.

Select to view spoiler:

I do think he was trying to show the firm that
A) He wasn't afraid of them. And
B) That he is willing to do what it takes to protect his own interests (himself).

He likely was having a moment of inner conflict, regarding the source of his new evil hand, similar to his conflict regarding the blind children. But in the end, Lindsey will be Lindsey and I think he just wanted to get out for awhile, and wanted some level of assurance that the firm would leave him alone.

This episode enlightened me to Christian Kane's (Lindsey) band, KANE, and have been a fan ever since. That scene is my favorite scene. STOP IT EVIL HAND STOP IT! or CRAZY, CRAZY!

Lindsay is my favorite villain in the series, by far. Such a great character. Of course, I'm just starting season 4 and I've never seen Buffy. People tell me Angelus is a far better villain.

actually if you ever listened to Joss' commentary to Dopplegangland
(where Willow's double, Vampire Willow was brought back)
Joss talks about how he loved the scene,
because the actors did it perfectly.
They are miserable and in mourning,
they see nothing funny in the situation,
but the audience knows what is going on...
and the audience finds the scene hysterically funny.

I think the same thing was functioning in Lindsay's Evil Hand speach:
that is HE was not kidding around,
and the people he was talking to found nothing funny...
but the scene is designed to be extremely funny to us...
and of course it is, we all laugh out loud throughout the whole thing
(shooting the guy in the foot,
goosing Lilah! LOL)

you see some of angelus in angel. to be honest, i never thought that angelus (aside from his vampire abilities) was all that scary. as far as villans go in angel, there were some pretty cool ones (will not spoil it for you! we can discuss it later!).

i absolutely love the "ooo! that's gonna hurt in the mornin'" scene. makes me laugh EVERY time. the actor who plays lindsay is quite good.

Havent seen much of S4 yet but I can say the DB was great as Angelus in S2 of Buffy. Perhaps the best villain in the Buffy'verse run.

I agree. He was awesome in "Soulless" though, but afterwards meh.

Even without watching Buffy there are still some great glimpses of Angelus and just how bad he was. Rewatch the Angelus/Darla/Drusilla flashbacks in the first few seasons and it shows what an evil evil mofo he was. There were a few bits of flashbacks in season 5 as well, but it was told from a much different perspective than the earlier seasons.

But it makes more of an impact if you've seen Buffy season 2, because Angel himself explains his past, and then later you get to actually see Angelus in action.

cannot comment on the buffy version of angelus, but the angel version, even in the early season stuff is more talk than action in my opinion. angelus can say rude things, make you uncomfortable, but i never felt that there was all that much to be afraid of. sure, they show him killing people and such, but he was never all that creepy. he just seemed like more of a jerk. of course, i am basing this on just the angel series.

Angelus was all about psychological torture. He *was* more talk than action, but it's still awfully damaging. Angelus wasn't about a high body count, but if he was fixated on you, there was no worse fate. Let's take Drusilla for example. From flashbacks in both series (most of this is from Angel so no big Buffy spoilers):

-Darla points out this young woman to Angelus. She's virginal-- and hey! Psychic. Fun! Angelus has got himself a new project.

-Angelus talks to her while posing as a priest at confession (he ate the priest btw). She confesses that she sees things that are about to happen, and she's worried that it's wicked to be able to do that. Fake-priest Angelus confirms that, yes, she is an evil sinner. He starts his little psych game right there.

-Angelus stalks her. He eventually kills every single member of her family (probably while she was watching). He killed her parents, her sisters, aunts, uncles, and every other thing she loved.

-Dru, probably near-crazy from that ordeal, ran away to a convent. On the night she was to take her holy orders, Angelus raped/killed the entire convent in front of Dru. He continued to rape/torture Drusilla until she was completely insane. He then turned her into a vampire, because he decided that just killing her would end the pain/fun for him. He decided to make her an experiment in eternal tormet. Because Dru was insane, it would be fun to see her suffer for all eternity.

Sure, Drusilla as a vampire seems to enjoy her evilness and insanity, but that is a pretty good example of what Angelus was capable of.

He also wasn't particularly nice to Holtz (killed his infant son/raped his wife to death/turned his daughter into a vampire) but then that certainly came back to bite him in the ass big time.

So yeah, I stand by my "creepy villian" statement.

Though, IMO, that whole story doesn't make as much as an emotional statement as "Passions" from Buffy s2. I think because it was sort of "real time" in-the-moment action. Damn... that was traumatizing for me. But Angelus was a great villian...

you don't know about Angelus if you haven't seen S2 of Buffy and it's so much better if you never knew it was gonna happen.

I saw it not knowing that Angel would ever be anything besides the nice and guildridden, slightly dumb but loyal vampire-boyfriend of Buffy.

at the end of Innocence I was shaking and by the time Passion was over I was afraid of this guy and hated him more than I've ever hated any character on TV. and I didn't even like Jenny.

but I didn't think Angelus in S4 of Angel was all bad. he managed to say or imply everything everyone didn't want to hear and hurt them all more than any other villain while still locked inside a cage. he is all about torture and he likes the psychic kind even more than the physical. but you're all right he didn't do much afterwards and that wasn't really in-character for him. he should have tortured at least some of them some more. maybe turn Fred into a vampire to get a rise out of Wesley and Gunn or something like that. seemed they were afraid of doing something drastic like that and that made the greatest villain somewhat tame in the end.

I just think his whole character is off in S4, particularly the speech patterns. In another thread I dredged up a bunch of awful quotes from Soulless, but I'm too lazy to go find them again

To the poster who has never seen Angelus on Buffy -

Go watch Season 2. Buy it, rent it, borrow it from a friend, but WATCH that season, and you'll really see what Angelus is REALLY all about.
He IS more talk than action, but not in the way he is in season 4...he just stands around and talks. Loudly and without stopping.

Also, if you've seen the Angel season 1 episode Eternity, you've gotten a glimpse of what Angelus is SUPPOSED to be.

Also, someone earlier mentioned the flashback scenes from Angel season 5.

Am I the only one who thinks the scenes from The Girl In Question totally shat on Angelus?

Simon: You...you came for us.
Mal: You're on my crew.
Simon: Right. I guess I just didn't...you don't even like me.
Mal: You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this?

I think it was done that way because it was about Spike and Angel, who were being such lame little losers at the time that they just made a flashback of them being lame and loserly. Spike would especially have a different POV of Angelus than anybody else. I don't doubt that Angelus was occasionally wacky around his vampy family.

I think it was dumb, but I forgive it because other parts of the episode just cracked me up so much.

Ciao!

I dunno. The scenes where we saw them going after the Immortal together just seemed to make Spike and Angelus out to be buffoons. I don't know about Spike, but the Angelus that I know and love to hate is NOT a buffoon.

I dunno, those scenes kind of turned me off to the whole episode...

Yeah, they could have dumped that one to make a three-part finale...

...though, I do agree with the point of the episode, which was to sort of "settle" the rivalry between Angel and Spike. I just don't like how they did it.
