Lets put it this way, a bad Joss episode is still better than 90% of what's on television. I say go for it.

Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty
Wash: Were I unwed I would take you in a manly fashion
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause you're pretty

Still, a very moving episode and Sarah was great.

The reasons made pretty good sense to me. But, to each his or her own.

I just watched that scene a few times with the sound run through my Bose Acoustic Wave Machine and its volume cranked to 80--sometimes with my ear up to it, sometimes not. Sometimes with the subtitles on, sometimes not.

It sounds to me like he says "Sh, Sh, please... and then says "please" a few more times. I really don't believe there's a "Sarah" in there.

Like I said, urban myth. It was hotly debated at the time.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I finished with season 4 of Angel just a couple of nights ago. All I can say is that if season 5 gets better...I CAN'T WAIT!

Chrisisall, don't you dare skip season 4!

Angel is fast becoming one of my favorite shows ever, probably will end up in at least the top five all time.

Even the 'baby' episodes of S3?
I finished S1 and frankly, it was good, but not 'Buffy' good.

Well, you've seen the best (2&3) of Buffy, and only the first season of Angel. You gotta give the poor guy a chance.

It gets better as everyone finds their place a little more.

You have to start a new thread for S2... we'll help you through it!

WORKEROFEVIL

Chrisisall,
I don't think it's all that surprising that Buffy's feel changed as the show went on. It was in large part about growing up and moving into the adult world, so as Buffy gained more adult responsibilities the show's feel had to change. Angel was about redemption for past mistakes. Anegl, Cordy, Doyle, Wes, Gunn, Faith, Spike, and Harmony all had things in their past to atone for. (Fred and Lorne not so much but still) So, the feel of the show would stay pretty consistent. Or that's my view anyway.

The first half of SEASON 4 is brilliant
The second half got into the wrong story
line in the fourth quarter.

AMNESIAC

The history of the writing of Season 4 without spoilers, is thus:

Charisma Carpenter (Chordy) got pregnant. Congradulations all around of course!
But, the storyline of Angel Season 4 had to change at the last minute to accommodate said pregnancy. She was originally set to be the Big Bad that season! Joss said so. So some convoluted and very bizarre plot points were created to get her the time she needed bring to the world her little bundle of joy.

So all of the things that make it a 'bad' season can be pinned on the nescessary last minute changes to the arch of the story.

Apart from that however, I think Season 4 of Angel was truly epic. It was huge. It was like an eighteen hour movie with very few stand alone episodes, and a huge arch. I liked it. It wasn't Angel Season 2, which totally freaked me out, but in that 'Oh my god I can't beleive they did that to my characters that I love, and it makes so much sense, and what great acting, but I'm really freaked out and distrurbed by how dark this is but it's also funny too.' kind of way.

Anyway. Don't skip Season 4. just keep in mind what went into composing the overarching story.

Whilst not one of my favourites, actually ranking bottom for me, I definitely wouldn’t say that it was a “bad season”, just not the strongest.

Having said that, it is, as many pointed out, perhaps the most experimental seasons running – with that huge arc.

It also has some very strong episodes; ‘Apocalypse, Nowish’, ‘Orpheus’, ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Home’ being amongst my favourites of the show’s five year run.

I seen so much death... I been on fields carpeted with bodies, friends and enemies - i seen men and women blown apart to messes no further from me to you. But every single ones of those people died on their feet. Fighting. Or, hell, running away - doing summat to get through...

The problem with season 4 is that it doesn't really work all that good as a whole. Many of the parts are great, but they don't necessarily make any real sense together.

Select to view spoiler:

For instance, I liked the whole "The Beast"/Rain of fire/Apocalypse thing, which led to the return of Angelus and subsequently Faith. I also liked the Jasmine arc. However, those two made little or no sense together, and it almost seemed like the writers were just making it up as they went along. If you consider the fact that Cordy was under the control of Jasmine since she came back, or at least since the memory spell in "Spin the Bottle", many of her actions and reactions to things that happen during the season seems very strange

With that said, it's still very enjoyable though, just not quite as good as some of the other seasons.

I thought that was somewhat whiny. Agree on some of the points, but some others were kinda ridiculous. I especially don't agree on the comments about S6 of Buffy and the whole Lilah thing that the reviewer for some reason goes on about for half a page.
