Is it still expected in the fall?

IDW Publishing Panel
Friday, July 27, 11:30am-12:30pm, Room 4
This panel will present an overview of IDW Publishing's upcoming projects, including an "Angel: Season 6" comic by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, as well as updates on the upcoming "Star Trek" and "Transformers" series, and a special announcement of a new title or two, too. Participants include: science fiction writer and co-founder of boingboing.net, Cory Doctorow; publisher of IDW Publishing, Chris Ryall; comic writer Mike Baron, screenwriter Brian Lynch, and more.

at this panel discussion at Comic con we expect to hear the news of when the series will come out,
I'm guessing that it will be released just as Spike: Shadowpuppets ends, but I hope it is before then because I don't think that that ends before November!

AHH!!! The waiting is killing me, gorramit! Even August's Buffy #5 seems so far away, to an excruciating degree.

Basically, I need something to obsess about that'll take away from my daily stresses a bit. The entire Jossverse is the best, never fails to pick me up when I'm down.

So, I've been rereading The Long Way Home, and I suddenly got an idea from seeing Buffy's SERENITY shirt...remember the Buffy Animated idea? What about a Firefly/Serenity cartoon, designed for adults? You know, if there never ended up being a sequel, but that continued the story from the end of SERENITY? If the regular cast couldn't do it, the could maybe find people that sounded close enough. It worked for the video games. The actresses hired for Buffy and Willow (okay, not Anya, though) sounded close enough that I found myself forgetting they were fakes after a while.

If you mean official and/or licensed, then there is no chance...
Joss has refused to allow any other writers (writers of novelizations or comics) to write anything at all that is Serenity based,
he said it is because he isn't ready to let go of these characters.
AND he is only having one more short comic book series done by himself & Brett Mathews (another three issue short, set before the movie, it should come out in early 2008)...
he said in a radio interview that THAT is because he isn't ready to let go of these actors as these characters....

So all Serenity stuff will have to wait until either Joss is ready to let go of the reigns or he finally gets his sequel from Universal (I haven't given up hope)

But I'm wondering if Joss himself would be interested in continuing the story after SERENITY if (and only if) Universal finally told him officially that they wouldn't do sequels.

I don't know, I guess filling in previous stories that have already happened are about as interesting to me as picking up a lame Buffy novel set way back in season 2 or something. I'm only interested in post-season 7, post-ANGEL Season 5, and post-SERENITY now. It'd have to be something really special to make we want to spend extra money to go back to where we've already been.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Neither have I, and I know we can't be alone.

We all know Joss wants to do more, but the trouble with that is he is at the mercy of TPTB, he doesn't have the necessary funds to produce himself. He has to rely on a studio to back his dreams. I wish it were otherwise.

the thing is that Universal would never say that.
And if one person at Universal DID say that then it still wouldn't mean anything because next year they would be working somewhere else and the next guy might change his mind.

A lot of things would get us our sequel:
1. It took Star Trek fans 10 years before they got their first anything... Time and the continued popularity/public awareness of Firefly/Serenity could get us there

2. Sudden big fame of one of the BDHs would remind Universal that they have this star under contract already to do the sequel, and then they would want to make it to feature that break out star (I'm thinking that Nathan or Summer could hit that next level at some point.... Hopefully soon)

3. A big hit by Joss w/another film (my hopes had been on Wonder Woman, now they're on Goners, if he has a BIG box office movie then Universal could re-market Serenity and a sequel...)

Universal is slowly but surely making more profit off of Serenity, they have no reason to make statements which would lead to fans losing all hope for the future.

All this is just me theorizing, but it is what I believe.
