just have to share, do not expect many (or any) replies to this thread, but i was watching an angel rerun last night when the beast has blocked out the sun and wesley brings the shaman to remove angel's soul so they can talk to angelus.

Select to view spoiler:

i have to say that the ending caught me off guard! i guess i SHOULD have seen it coming, but when it is revealed that the shaman was NOT trying to kill angel and that he was successful in removing angel's soul and that they had NOT killed the beast and that the mystical sword that they used probably does not even exist my mouth dropped open and all i could think was "wow."

anyway, just had to share. cannot wait to see the episode this evening! since i have to tape it because i never get home early enough, it may pre-empt the nfl opener or the premiere of joey tonight for me.

anyhoo... now that you all think i am crazy, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

You should go out right now and buy the whole Season 4 set! That way you won't have to wait to tape any of them.

ETA: That episode was one of the best of the season, because you think it's all actually happening. Just wait until Angelus has his show down with......I won't say!

However, after the episode called Orpheus...even if you don't know the titles of the episodes the word "orpheus" is used in there so you'll know which one. Just turn it off and consider that the series finale and you can die happy and slightly less confused. Actually turn it off a few minutes before the end of the episode even. That's my advice at least.

you guys are all such a big tease.

i have a $25 gift certificate to amazon.com and i have been thinking about what to get. i have seriously considered getting some complete seasons, but i am still undecided. still, taping them is fun. it gives me something to look forward to each day, plus, if i had a complete season on dvd, i probably would not move from the couch for the entire 22 hours or whatever it runs in total length. given that i am not a very sedentary person, i think that might be a bad idea. when i first got my firefly dvd set, i watched almost half the episodes back to back to back etc...

Are you kidding? The Jasmine episodes almost succeed in saving a poor season. See the 'Angel S4 Opinions' thread...

yeah, don't stop, the best part is at the end.

Jasmine is maybe the single most creepiest villain in all of the Buffyverse. to miss her is not a good idea.

Select to view spoiler:

I did soo feel for Fred when she was all alone and trying to figure out a way to save everyone. she's become my hero there. when she went up to Wes and asked him for help I was screaming "NOOOOO! DON'T! he's gonna turn you in and the world as we know and love it will end".
the only thing I'v ever watched that made me cringe about the same was the "Nightwatch" in B5. they totally creeped me out. or maybe Willows 'forget' spell in Tabula Rasa. done with such innocence and the best of intentions, just creepy.

the Beast was a dumb strong rock thing. nothing scary about that. makes for some nice fight scenes but that's all. brought us Faith back though, so I'm greatful. Jasmin was the killer in S4.
and Connors part in it all almost made his character worthwhile.

Keep in mind that what you are taping from the tv is NOT THE COMPLETE EPISODE! Whenever I watch Buffy or Angel episodes on tv and then see the same episodes on dvd (or vice versa) I always notice lines, and sometimes entire short scenes, that have been cut out on tv to make room for more commercial time. The only way to see the ENTIRETY of all Buffy and Angel episodes is to watch the dvds. And this is not a trivial thing. Some of the lines they cut on tv are either funny or interesting or important to the story - but you'll only see them on the dvd.

I'm glad you mentioned that. You beat me to the punch. I can hardly stand watching those eps on TV for the commercials and more so because of how much they cut out. They cut out some of my favorite lines in some of those eps.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Personally what I hated was the Ats S4 story arc w/Cordy going evil & sleeping w/Connor (still makes me shudder...)
but Gina Torres showing up was DEFINITELY a big improvement (along with wonderful appearances by Faith & Willow)

I know a lot of people had a problem with Cordy and Connor hooking up. Considering the context of events that were happening at that time on the show, I did not have a problem with it. The Beast & Master arranged for fire to rain down from the sky to make the gang think that the End might be near. Also, Cordy was already being subliminally influenced by the Master into doing things that she might not ordinarily do. And after all, Connor's sole purpose for being born was to one day have sex with Cordy to bring about The Devourer. I admit that before I found out the details toward the end of the season I was wondering what the hell they were up to with that part of the arc. Once I saw all of the eps a couple of times, it made sense to me at least.

Exactly! That's why it's so necessary to buy the dvds. Some of the lines that are cut on tv are so good that you really don't get as much out of the episode without them.

Ah, sorry for the confusion. No it wasn't sarcasm. I hated S4 as a whole - I thought the Jasmine arc was a decent attempt at forming something coherent from the ruins ;)

Funny! I also have a tendency to watch whole seasons in about 2 sittings when I get a new set. At least this has held true for all my Buffy and Angel DVD's. Firefly, I watched in one sitting. Just don't want to turn off the DVD player.

Now, after I watch them the first time, I go through and watch them all again, but slightly slower. And then again with commentaries... and so forth.

I never cram episodes into long sittings. You have to give each one time to sink in and simmer a little before moving on. Except maybe with something like 24 but then I gave up on that a while back...
