Here's the deal. I really like Jayne and his attitude. So I wish I was really more like Jayne. Ask anybody (at all) who knows me (and knows Firefly) and they'll say they can see that, but... they'll also tell you that I'm like Mal far more than anyone else on the crew. So how about you?

When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa. Not screaming and yelling like everyone else in the car he was driving.

I'd PREFER to be like Zoe, but I'm probably more like Kaylee. And a smidge of YoSafBrig.

I'm most like Book, though I'd like to be a full half-and-half of Book and Jayne. A preacher can still like guns, y'know.

I'm a bit complicated. I'm kind of a mixture of River and Simon. The Simon in me is that nagging voice always telling me "don't do this" and "don't do that" because it ain't proper. Not to mention sometimes I just haven't got a clue and I have a tendency to say the stupid, wrong things all the time. I happen to think I'm a bit on the "moonbeamed" side of things, so definitely River on that one. Smart, but strange. That's me.

I wish I was more like Kaylee. Just a free spirit, speaks her mind. Finds the best in everything and is always happy. That would be nice.

I can indeed read the signs, I choose to ignore them.

I'm a strange combination of Kaylee and River. I am a girl that very much feels everything around her. I am also a girl that tries very hard to smile everyday. So while I often rub soup in my hair, you can find me in a hammock thinking of the best way to get the Harley to stop leaking oil ( I know impossible).

...And I like insanely intelligent men that sacrifice themselves for others, though not necessarily as smooth chested as Simon.

To be honest, I would say that I’m most like Simon. Sort of nerdy and well dressed, rather conservative.

But some womenfolk that I sometimes watch Firefly with tell me that I’m 100% Jayne.

I kind of liked the idea that they thought I was Jayne-ish, all manly and confident like. After thinking about it though, I’m not sure it was meant as a complement. I think they were making reference to aspects of my free-spirited personality they sometimes don’t like. But I could hardly care. I identify with Jayne. He’s misunderstood. But I don't think I'm most like him.

OK, multi-faceted here.
I'm most like: In external personality: Zoe, reserved, with supportive strength, getting things done, with a dash of Kaylee only in the crafty, fix-it sort of way.
internal personality: Mal, deep in thought, grumbling, mix that with Wash humor, because I came from a family of people who thought they were comedians. Oh the horror!

Wish I was most like : Only if it would make it so.

Well to be totally honest I'm probably most like River.

And, to be totally honest, I'd probably like to be most like River. Assuming we mean personality and not gender.

I think it’s really better to be the one with the problems than the one who doesn’t understand what the problems are, but still has to try to fix it.

I also think that all greatness comes with a price, and River is great, the price is equally great. I think I could deal with the problems she has and, if I succeeded, have a more rewarding life than if I didn’t have the problems in the first place.

So that’s what I’d like to be, someone who has great talent, and pays for it with suffering. All of the others have something alluring to them, but River has the most obvious catch, and therefore the most easy to deal with. Believe it or not a fractured personality is easier to repair than a marriage.

Hrm . . I'd say i'm most like Kaylee. I'm happy-go-lucky. I'm a bit of a pushover. I've also been accused of being too cheerful.
I'd love to be like Mal. He doesn't put up with anyone's crap, yet he has priciples. He sticks to them too. Of course, I envy Zoe's butt kicking ability.

Why repair that personality? River wouldn't be so interesting if she weren't all over the place. Enjoy the variety you have!

This is true, I think I should have said, "deal with," instead of, “repair.” Then again I hope to have to deal with a marriage at some point anyway. But not yet.

Stick with Kaylee. I envy Kaylee; I’d like to be like her if I didn’t have a fondness for my own problems and strengths shown in River.

Kaylee is an innocent, and I don’t understand that. Innocence is a state of mind, most often destroyed by knowledge about how horrible the world is, but here she is, she’s been shot and threatened with rape and she’s still in that state of mind. I don’t understand, but I envy.

Innocence is a choice. Wait. Don't huff and say it's not, because it is. We choose to see the world in a certain way. Chris, dear, you state that you are a cynic—though I’m not convinced you are. So you see everything with those eyes. I choose to see the world as innocently as I can. I've not been shot, well bbs don't count. I've been more than threatened. That's when you find that you have to keep your innocence or the fear and the pain and the hate will destroy you. I'm not Kaylee, but I try. The cynic in me still finds a way out every so often. But then I remember that it isn't a hat...it's a boa constrictor eating an elephant. It will take time, but you can learn to see things like Kaylee does.

Ok.

Actually I don't state that, but the name has stuck with me. I stopped explaining that the name is just a name, and it doesn’t really describe me, a long time ago.

I’ve become accustomed to it even though I first gave it to myself only because I wanted a name online with out a bunch of numbers after it. Has a nice ring to it, I think. I didn’t even think I was one then, but people called me one at the time, that's what gave me the idea.

So you see everything with those eyes.

I don’t know if I choose to see the world the way I do or if I just don’t know how to see it differently. I’m not saying that you are wrong, but not seeing the alternative makes it hard to make a choice.

You obviously have a story, I hope it turns out good in the end and you get the “Happily mostly after” that we all want.

A good goal I think.

That is the way of things, the way of the force.

That’s right.

Perhaps you are right, perhaps you are wrong. At least you give hope.

Thank you for taking an interest, and thank you for saying what you did about it being a choice.

First off that makes me feel good, second that helps me understand a character in something I’m writing. I’ve always known that she was an innocent, but I could never understand what that meant. Dezy, that’s her name, had gone through hell, not literally, and been forced by her morals to do things that would give most of us nightmares. But she was still innocent.

I could never understand that even though I created (or discovered depending on your viewpoint) the character. You’ve just helped. Thank you.

And thanks again for taking an interest.

-

I like your name.
