I got a question for all you great folks. I have been racking my brain trying to remember if in Ariel it was sometime stated that the hands of blue boys were of inorganic origin. I am curious because the weapon they use, the rod, supposedly causes a target of organic origin only to bleed to death. I am uncertain whether that is correct info though. Who's gonna help out the poor unknowing maniac?

It never occured to me that they would be inorganic. I've always heard that the Blue Wand of Death was directional, and that's why it didn't kill them too.

Of course, this is all just conjecture.

Where did you hear they were inorganic?

Hmmm.
I did notice, they never blinked. I rewatched the scenes several times, and they didn't blink.

My first thought about the bwod (blue wand of death) was that it was some kind of psychic amplifier, and the attacks actually originated from the bluehands. After I noticed the 'no blinking' thing, I wondered if they might not be androids, and the bwod an organic disruptor which wouldn't affect them. I still lean toward the amplifier thing, and that the bluehands want River to make her one of them.

I was thinkin' that the HoB were early experiments into tapping the psychic pool dormant in the human body. And that their experimant paved the way for River's, leading them into new directions and a better understanding of what they were after. Happens a lot of times in experiments.

Perhaps they're synthetic humans, kinda cyborgie. (I.E. Aliens' Bishop.)

I never saw that before Wulfhawk, that they didn't blink once. What about the Train Job? I never taped it so I can't check, they appeared at the end of that episode.

Actually I read that they were. Well I guess from what I read, I implied that they were inorganic because they didn't get hurt.
here is the link posted earlier by Talrius http://www.fireflyfans.net/reference.asp?r=627

I assumed that the weapon was sonic in nature, not directional. You know, bursting blood vessels and all with frequency.

I always figured the rod somehow changes the density of the gasses in their victim's blood. What I don't get is how the Blue Hand Group are immune to its affects--unless maybe they are wearing some kind of device which counteracts the weapon's effects?

I doubt they're inorganics. One of the consistant things about the Firefly 'verse has been the absence of any lifeforms except plain old fashioned (well, occasionally psychic) humans. No aliens, no androids, and only a passing reference to clones.

Some take the high road.
Some take the low road.
And some just go screaming down the highway,
dropping flaming bits of wreckage.
