ELORA

I'm new. Or, I'm new to posting here. I've been lurking a bit. (so I know who all of you are and where you live HA HA HA!!! (just kidding))
Um, I'm Elora. I first saw Firefly a few months ago, after hearing about it for a year and really intending to watch it eventually. Finally someone had some sense and lent me her DVDs.
Anyway, the real reason I'm posting now: I was lurking around this morning, and look at that, another Serenity screening! So I got myself a ticket, but my friend who's been watching with me is out of town and I don't know anyone else (I don't know the person I borrowed the dvds from that well). And I feel really goofy hanging around crowded places by myself, so hello! Will you be my friend?
I'm going to the Hartford/Manchester, CT screening. I live in Mass., but Hartford is closer and Boston was already sold out.

REGINAROADIE

Hey, Elora. My name's reginroadie. I'm a Canuck Browncoat (specifically from Saskatchewan), so as much as I'd like to be in Conneticuit to see SERENITY, I'm afraid I can't go. If you want to chat or maybe even roleplay (don't know if you're an aspiring fanfic writer), that would be cool. My e-mail is reginaroadie@yahoo.com

Peace

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

Hey you. I'm not going to Hartford, but I did go to the Atlanta and have been to quite a few shindigs. You'll be with a really good group of folks. I see it no matter where I go.

Leading up to it, post some more. Post around some on the OB too. They'll be threads for people going to Hartford.

Welcome Elora. I'm going to the Charlotte screening, or else I'd definitely stop by. But welcome, welcome, make yourself at home.

Hi Elora. I'll be going to the Hartford screening. And I will be your friend (if you will let me)

In all honesty, yes I will actually be there with a few friends from work. You're welcome to hang out with us.

Gorram it!
I got so busy doing other things and never expected a screening here. I'm in Charlotte, and figured the closest would be Atlanta again. I didn't even check. Anyone have a spare ticket? Anyone want to just meet and chat before the screening? Well there's always the NCBDMPP in Raliegh.

Hello there!

Congrats on your tickets! I've realized that Firefly fans are some of the nicest people, so I'm sure you'll find a friend at the screening.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site Elora. Glad to have you posting w/ us. Make yourself right at home.

I think you will find us a friendly bunch. Making friends should be easy enough. I have already made many friends w/ some that post here & other boards.

Have fun at the screening.

Hello, Elora - and everybody!

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking my introduction on yours.

I live in Seattle, and am new to fandom. Anyone care to offer any helpful tips for n00bs like me? I looked for a forum faq, but I couldn't find one.

Greektoomey,
Welcome aboard. I'm on the opposite side of the country so I can't help much with your potential local events. I'm sure there are other Browncoats closer to or within Seattle that would know more. If you're seeking just general tips for the board, then I recommend the "just jump right in" tactic. post in threads that interest you and let us all know a bit about you. We're all fairly friendly here and only bite if you ask real nice. If you have questions post 'em and someone who can help, likely will.
Have you seen the whole DVD set? What other shows are you a fan of? We'll all tend to pimp Buffy, Angel, and Wonderfalls, and The Inside, as they come from the same creative minds as our beloved Firefly. We'll just assume you know about the movie......
Cheers, and again, welcome aboard.

Visit WWW.Marillion.Com for a better way to live
Visit www.TheInside.org and see Tim Minear's show Weds. 9:00pm EST.....ah FUX nevermind.

Please, call me "Greek."

Browncoat1, thank you. I guess I don't have any real specific questions, I just usually try to read a FAQ before I jump right in and make a fool of myself. If there's no faq, then I guess I don't need to worry about it. Let the foolishness commence!

Jadehand, thank you, also. Is there somewhere on this board that I can look for local browncoat events? (I assume that "browncoat" means "Firefly fan" rather than a specific type of Firefly fan?)

Re: biting - I can ask *very* nicely. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

I've watched the fourteen episodes from the DVDs, though they were downloaded copies. Please don't jump on me for that - I ordered the DVD box, and "Finding Serenity," from Amazon this morning, because now I have an obsessive need to watch all the extras. Also because, Hello, JOSS.

As far as other shows go, I have the full twelve seasons of Buffy & Angel, and I'm also a fan of Smallville and The West Wing (before Sorkin departed). I recently cancelled my cable television, but you've got me curious as to how Mr. Whedon is involved with The Inside (which I've never heard of) and Wonderfalls.

Hoo boy, I'm just full of questions.

Hey Greek.

There is a Firefly Meet Up Group in Seattle that you could join. Here is their web addy:

http://firefly.meetup.com/55/

Lots of us Browncoats (what the cast and fanbase call Firefly fans) get together through the Meet Up site to plan get togethers, shindigs (parties), etc.

You can start w/ the Meet Up Group & branch out from there.

We're happy to answer any questions you have, so fire away.

Greek,

I see BC1 has filled you in on the Meetups and "Browncoats", Mr. Whedon isn't personally involved in either "The Inside" or "Wonderfalls". Tim Minear(Angel,Firefly,Wonderfalls), his partner in crime, was behind "Wonderfalls", and was brought in and completely re-vamped "The Inside" (currently being FOXED, will return next weds. 9:00 EST and the week after before being sent off to DVDland) with the help of other Mutant Enemy alumni (Jane Espenson, Ben Edlund, etc). See link below.
Aside: I enjoy Smallville too.

Unfortunately, it appears that the meetup thing is defunct - no new events can be scheduled, and no new message board posts can be made - until someone ponies up $19/month to be the organizer.

:(

Thanks for the info on Wonderfalls and The Inside. Maybe if or when I meet another browncoat I'll get a chance to see these shows.

Ouch,
Well Wonderfalls is available on DVD (about $30, and worth every penny) The Inside is still on for a couple of episodes just not this week. It's a bit different. Still a character study but the setting in this is a FBI violent crimes unit hunting serial killers and other such people. Great characters by great actors including Adam Baldwin (Jayne in Firefly, Hamilton in Angel S5) and Katie Finneran (Sharon Tyler in Wonderfalls)

As for meeting other locals, you could always post a thread asking for Seattle Browncoats, Unfortunately No one has put together a Browncoat Pages where we can look up other locals.
Cheers,

Adam Baldwin rocks. I can't tell whether Jayne actually has a disproportionately large share of the best lines on Firefly, or if it just seems that way because of Baldwin's brilliant delivery.

To me, he'll always be "My Bodyguard."

I'll probably get around to starting a meeting thread after I've become addicted to the community. Shouldn't take long, I reckon. *checks watch*

Oh, sorry about that. Didn't know they were defunct.

A lot of us left the Meetup.com site due to it going from being a free site to them demanding $19/mth for us to use their board.

I used to run the Richmond, VA meetup group on their site. When they hit us up for money we pulled out & went to a Yahoo group. Could be the Seattle group did the same or a similar thing.

What you can do is start a thread on the main page w/ a title like "Seattle Browncoats" or something similar. Introduce yourself and put a call out to all the Seattle browncoats. I am sure they will see it & introduce themselves. All of you should be able to organize something or they can tell you where they moved to.
