Don't know if this has already been brought up, but first: what do you think about it, and second: what are the odds of it ever happening.

I just came to think about it when I checked up on Morena at imdb and saw she had no up and coming projects =( and I thought if Firefly and Serenity weren't exposition enough then Wonder Woman would definitely do it, right? Personally I think she'd be a perfect Wonder Woman, but then again I've never been much of a WW fan and the prospect of Morena getting a big gig is more important than casting the perfect Wonder Woman. But what's to say she's not it. So, any WW fans here who'd like to share their opinions?

Yeah, and I can totally see her pull of the range of a character like Wonder Woman (or what I imagine her to be, again: I'm not that well aquainted with the DC godess) with a serious, kind of wise and extremely gentle and comforting side, very godess like - right? right? :P

It would just be so awesome. I wonder how much of the casting is up to Joss. But then again, it would be a miracle if just he would want to go with her, and even if that happened - he'd get screwed over by the studio heads. DAMN INDUSTRY!

IMHO, Morena is not tall enough, nor does she have the physique that would make the ideal WW. Gina, oh my yes, but also, Charisma Carpenter, and Elizabeth Dishku, who played Faith in Buffy and Angel, would make nice choices, although Elizabeth may be a bit too short.

if Gina Torres was WW, the film would be ripped and attacked by comic fanboys everywhere.

Yeah, you're probably right about Morena not having the right build. But I can't agree with you on Charisma and Dushku. Charisma is an OK character actor and Dushku is just annoying.

I agree she would do the role justice, but isn't WW supposed to be blond? I could be remembering it wrong, of course.

No, as I recall, every depiction I've seen of her was with dark hair. As far as her needing to be white, well, the comic fanboys can all just get kicked back into their parents' cellars to whine into their blankies. Gina would rock as WW.

I've always thought Morena would be the perfect fit. She looks exactly like wonder woman. She's a great actress too. I really hope she gets the part. Though I would kinda expect Joss to go with a lesser known actress if he has any say in the casting.

I'd prefer to see someone completely new. It's a pity to me that people want to stay with the same actors from shows they like.

I love Morena to bits, but as lovely as she is, she's by no means an Amazon Princess. Keyword here being "Amazon."

I think Gina would be great in that role.

As far as the ethnicity hang-up goes, I don't know that fanboys would object too much. All most of them will see is big, beautiful woman before them. However, take a look at Catwoman, Sue Storm (Fantastic Four) and Harvey Dent (Batman); those are three characters off the top of my head that change in both comics, TV and movies, and I don't recall much out-cry.

Morena is certainly lovely enough, and no doubt she could buff up if necessary. In the spirit, if not the letter, of Wonder Woman, I would think that presence would matter more than height, and she has that in spades. Gina would be fantastic also. And she would certainly look great in the clothes! I have had a few other thoughts as well, but I mainly hope Joss gets who he wants for the character as he writes her.

And while we're on the subject, if the movie is going to use the Steve Trevor character--I vote for Nathan! He's got all the skills for the perfect Whedonesque character--and he looks great in uniform!!

Anybody thought about whether Summer could be WW?

Just a thought, she has got the moves.

I don't think Morena's right for the role. And Summer and Eliza Dushku and Gellar are all too small. Actually, I think Katherine Heigl would be a really good choice.

I'm sure there are a lot of people in Hollywood with some good casting ideas (including Whedon). Hopefully the best one wins out.

I vote for Nathan as Steve Trevor too! He'd be great. I doubt it's going to happen. I don't think Joss would have that much pull in casting the parts. There was this article, which is a bit old but hey whatever works:

Gina would rock, however I was under the impression that it was an origins type story, so the actress or character was younger. Probably mid twenties, that sort of thing.

I think that Morena has that ageless quality and look of wisdom that a 1000 year old would require, although Gina does have the height and look of an amazon.
It's a toss up for me.

Uh...perhaps you didn't read any of the outcry against Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, but it even made it to these boards. I'm not even a fan of the Fantastic 4 comics and I agreed she didn't look the part enough. These characters are comic book icons. You're not gonna get a 300 pound, hispanic superman to go over well. However, if we are throwing out the looking the part department I'd rather have Nathan Fillion play Wonder Woman. That guy's just plain awesome at anything he does.

I read a JW interview about a year ago where he basically said something along the lines of "Charisma Carpenter will be doing a reading for WW, of course."
I actually like the idea of her in the role, but I doubt that it would happen. As for Morena, I don't know, I've never seen her in anything else so I've no idea what she could do. All I can imagine is Inara playing WW.
Anyway, I hope we find out sometime in the soon.

I couldn't see Gina as Wonder Woman at first because she just didn't "look the part" but the more I think about it, it's like a match made in heaven. I mean, shes got the body for it and most importantly her face carries that serene Godess quality. And sure, her actings not on par with Meryl Streep but it's not like that's required for the part. And it would be so releasing to have a Wonder Woman who's not fixed on being a carbon copy of the comic and instead utilizing the strenghts in the "mythos" of the character in creating a great superhero-feminist-adventure type thingy :P - and if that attitude could go through the rest of the production, the movie might actually become something to stand on it's own. Still, hoping for Gina to be cast as WW is an act of futility, neither the studio or the fanboys would accept a black or "ethnic" Wonder Woman. And of course, there's the age factor - origin story and all of that.

But Morena, there might be a tiny little chance there. And firefly and Serenity has obviously not been exposition enough, since she still is an unknown, more or less.

something went wrong with the quoting, don't know what really (new to the forum). Anyways, it's a quote from Zeeks last post.

The difference is Superman/aka Farmboy Kent was raised in the midwest by white farmers. Wonder Woman on the other hand is supposedly a daugther of an amazon-godess on a meditereanean island, so her being lilly-white isn't really a defining character trait. And I'm not saying greeks look like african-americans but since when has Hollywood been picky about the authentic look of ethnic characters (like a greek godess). Vanessa Williams played Calypso in The Odyssea and that didn't feel like a stretch.

But let's not be unreasonable. If I was a big WW fan, I'd want her to look as much like I've always imagined and seen her, so there's nothing wrong about that. But personally I don't see why comics-book movies have to be sequel-spawning unoriginal copies of the books that they often are.

Heh, same discussion, nthread.

I'm that WW fan you're all looking for...I love her. Fans have been tossing around names for years and not all of them have been 'lilly white'. And it's not so much that Sue Storm was a blonde, it was that craptastic actess Jessica Alba was cast as her.

I like both Morena and Gina for it. I'd prefer Gina of the two.

Here is what I need in a WW actress.
1) Presence, call that tall if you want, but she must BE an Amazon…not just an Amazon but more than a mere human.
2) Exotic look. Dark hair, almond eyes, maybe olive skin...there are some incredible Italian actresses.
3) Young. She has to be young enough to at least give the illusion of sequels.
4) She must be me...jk.

I've heard some toss around Monica Belucci, eh, maybe. Oh! How about Aishwarya Rai? I don't know if she'd do a movie with so much skin, but she's beautiful and an established actress. If we're going by looks alone, Roseyn Sanchez (sp?) would be nice as Circe. Manuela Acuri is a gorgeous Italian actress. Or maybe Vana Barba.
