Just out of curiosity does voices for animated movies count? Becuase if so you could go
Spacy-->Dennis Leary (Bug's life)
Leary-->Alan Tudyk (Ice age)

OK, this one is VERY long and probably can be improved:

Paul Mercurio-->Malcom McDowell (the first 9 1/2 weeks)

McDowell-->Eddie Murphy (I SPY)

Murphey--> Cuba Gooding Jr. (Coming to America)

Gooding Jr.--> Robin Williams (What dreams may come)

Williams-->Alan Tudyk (Patch Adams)

OK, changed my mind. I want to see the shortest Nathan Fillon/firefly circle. In other words:

Fillon -->X
X-->Y
Y-->Adam Baldwin
Baldwin-->Fillon
shiny or too confusing?

Some of you might want to check out 'The Oracle of Bacon.'

Here is what it said about Nathan Fillion:

The Oracle says: Nathan Fillion has a Bacon number of 2.

Nathan Fillion was in Blast from the Past (1999) with Joey Slotnick
Joey Slotnick was in Hollow Man (2000) with Kevin Bacon

I'm sure that none of us are cheating by using sites like this:
http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/star_links.html

It has a computer data base that can link ANY actor to any other actor. Very powerful and fun to use (but still cheating!) I found close links to Adam Baldwin for every actor I could think of (maybe he should replace Kevin in the "Six Degree of Kevin Bacon" game...) I even linked Firefly cast members to each other:
Here are just 2:

Adam Baldwin was in Blind Justice (1994) with Jack Black
Jack Black was in Ice Age (2002) with Alan Tudyk

Adam Baldwin was in My Bodyguard (1980) with Jennifer Beals
Jennifer Beals was in Roger Dodger (2002) with Morena Baccarin

So, we should invoke the Browncoat Honor System (BHS) - we promise that sites like this will only be used to double-check questionable links. After all, to quote former vice president Dan Quayle, "It's a terrible thing to waste a mind."

It's kind of scary how interconnected the movie industry is - maybe if the world had such close connections, we would all be living in a shinier place (and I would be the King of Londinium). Either that, or we would all be inter-related and have be having kids with twelve fingers.

By the way, TragicStory, did you really find the connection from Benigni to Fillon all on your own? If so, that was very impressive!

Hey, you ARE still gifted (and StillShiny) if you can come up with the links without a computer's help. Just take the "Browncoat Pledge of Honor" that you did it on your own when you post

After all, knowing that a computer can do something for you, should not keep you from doing that thing yourself. Working your mind builds new brain cells. If you drank as much as I did back in college, you would realize just how important that is.

Use the link as a double-checker and you will still be "gifted".

Except for the 2nd guy. I had to cheat on that. What I REALLY wanted to do was connect him through the "spaggehti westerns" but alas could not.

Of course, the machine puts us all to shame:

Adam Baldwin was in Ordinary People (1980) with Donald Sutherland
Donald Sutherland was in Fellini: Je suis un grand menteur (2001) with Roberto Benigni

Frankly (may I call you Frank?), I am more impressed with the longer links you folks have come up with.

Hey, how about you change the rules a bit. Find the longest link between actors (most number of people between). You can not look that up on the computer (as far as I know).

Update: The site I listed claims that they can match most actors within 3 links (many within 2) so let's say you try to make the linkage 4 or more. That would make it the "Four Degrees of Separation to Firefly" Game, and the gorram computer can't help you now.

Sure, why the heck not. This is kind of shiny.

Alan Tudyk was in Ice Age with Leary
Leary was in Matchmaker with Garafalo
Garafalo was in Cats & Dogs with Uma Thurman
Thurman was in Batman & Robin with Clooney
Clooney was in Oceans 11 with Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts was in American Sweethearts with
John Cusak. Cusak was in Con-Air with Malkovich
(how twisted I am) Malkovich was in Man in iron mask with Jeremy Irons, Irons was in Die Hard III with Bruce Willis, Bruce Willis was in with Bandits with Billy Bob Thorton. Thorton was in Armagaedon with Michael Clarke Duncan, Duncan was in Daredevil with Ben Afflek. Ben Afflek was in Jay & Silent Bob with Matt Damon (and a bunch of others I know, hey this is fun watch where I'm going with this.) Matt Damon was in Dogma with Alan Rickman. Alan Rickman was in Robin Hood with Christian Slater, Slater was in Broken Arrow with John Travolta. Travolta was in Goldmember with Michael Caine. Michael Caine was in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Steve Martin. Steve Martin was in Planes, Trains & Automobiles with John Candy. John Candy was in Canadian Bacon with Dan Akroyd. Dan Akroyd was in Driving Miss Daisy with Morgan Freeman. Morgan Freeman was in Bruce Almighty with Jim Carey. Jim Carey was in Man in the Moon with Danny Devito. Danny Devito was in Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas was in Wonder Boys with Alan Tudyk. (Traced him back to Himself in 25 and all movies I have seen) Maybe that is impressive or I just am crazy. SHINY!!!!

I counted, that is TRULY six degrees of seperation. I just made it, whew.

...Eli Wallach.

And shame on who ever is cheating. At most, I use Altavista image search to see who half of these people are. I never knew Rogue was Anna Paquin...

Okay, to make it harder, set myself a minimum of ten degrees of separation, and I used only leading females! Also, I have seen all but one of these movies (#2).

11 Degrees of separation between Richard Pryor and Nathan Fillion (using leading actresses only)

1) Richard Pryor to Patricia Arquette in "Lost Highway" (1997)
2) Patricia Arquette to Gwyneth Paltrow in "Searching for Debra Winger" (2002)
3) Gwyneth Paltrow to Cate Blanchett in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999)
4) Cate Blanchett to Angelina Jolie in "Pushing Tin" (1999)
5) Angelina Jolie to Vanessa Redgrave in "Girl, Interrupted" (1999)
6) Vanessa Redgrave to Téa Leoni in "Deep Impact" (1998)
7) Téa Leoni to Laura Dern in "Jurassic Park III" (2001)
8) Laura Dern to Michelle Pfeiffer in "I am Sam" (2001)
9) Michelle Pfeiffer to Renee Zellweger in "White Oleander" (2002)
10) Renee Zellweger to Jeri Ryan in "Down with Love" (2003)
11) Jeri Ryan to Nathan Fillion in "Dracula 2000" (2000)

Okay, back to work now...

Oh yeah, how about Milla Jovovich next - (oh baby!)

How the hell did you do that do quickly? It took me over ten minutes flying through the IMDB just get the 11 links I found (of course, keeping it confined to women sort of slowed me down)... But I do agree - it's kind of like a "search boomerang" (hey, I just invented a new term!)

Okay, I am going home now - this has worn me out.
You are still the shiny one - I am not worthy...
