would be an absolute life saver, but only if you want to, but first make sure you're able to offload it somewhere else incase I gat hit by a bus (or something equally unlikely happens to render it impossible for me to go) I really don't want you risking all that money on me, but to be honest, that want is overtaken with the 'I want to go' want.

You know, I don't even know how much it is, the last time i was on the site they still hadn't updated it.

(thats a thought, how are half the tickets gone if the site didn't include prices or links? is there another place im missing?)

I'm guessing its around £80?

I should hopefully be able to give you most of it come Feb 28th.

Edit: ok, so I just found out why, the tickets went on sal on the 9th (a full week earlier) to people who had attended the first two serenity cons.

Not that long time fan don't deserve the perks, and not begrudging anyone anything at all. But from a marketing/spreading the signal point of view how is that encouraging new people to become active con-goers?

What I am begrudging is they're damn stupid site. They've updated, finally, but they give the bearest minimum info, no prices, and the online order link DOESNT BLOODY WORK.
when the little guy goes wrong, i'm endlessly forgiving, but when big money laden companies like this can't even get the basics right, it is fecking annoying.

I'm going to go back to the site now and discover the price sitting there waiting for me arn't I?
I don't care, rant still stands.

And yes, the hair is an issue, he wears it like that all the time, i'm hoping its a fad, 'cause its very distracting. I mean as far as 'looks' go, mostly he's not bad, kinda theatrical/nerd ( 60's/nerd with touches of period detail and a flourish) which works for him, but then you get to the hair, and it throws it all out.

I think I maybe has too many groupies now for us to get near him, maybe if we'd got there sooner...

But yes, should we ever be presented with the opportunity, you lure him into a bathroom somewhere, and I'll get him from behind with the hair wax and scissors. Sounds like a plan.

Oh, talking of longish hair being sexy, I spent the whole of yesterday drooling over this guy that had come with a group from manchester (their museum is copying our idea and opening a fairtrade shop, so they were on a snooping mission) But yum!

Just the kind of pale skinned, 'distinctive' featured type I usually go for, with thick black hair that hung over his eyes and just curled slightly around his ears.

I think what i'm trying to say is my faith in the local is restored, cute men do exist in this part of the country. Not quite liverpool, but manchester is only half an hour away.

I'm now trying to find someone to go stalking with me, but funnily enough, not having much luck. Tee hee.

Like Eyes Wide Shut... wha?

Anyway, enough of my ignorance.

no, Apocalypse Now made me want to ban wars, but only so that people couln't make movies that long and tortuous.

M.A.S.H and Catch 22 and the existence of George Bush Jr made me want to ban wars because they are bad things controlled by stupid people.

Most war related stuff makes me think only that war is inevitable 'cause conflict is an instrument of change and the instinct to fight part and parcel of the human animal.

My lingering thought from that movie is - why is he called Animal Mother?

Like I said, i'm totally missing the point.

But it is a great movie. I think.

valid point.

Rich arsehole make the world go round.

Maybe I should just say 'conflict' is inevitable. Since in that grand sweeping unquantifiable and shakily based gross generalisation I was also including the way animals fight over food and territory rights, and the fight or flight stress mechanism itself.

(can't you imagine if we didn't have the fight option? the world would be separated into two disticnt types, the runners and the chasers -seeing as rampantly calm people are so infuriating they could drive anyone to want to strangle them)

Ah the cod-philisophical musings of a woman who has just realised it is so obviously past her bedtime -I'm off to have more widescreen dreams.

Nighty night.

And calm people piss you off for one reason.

They're remaining calm to wind you up, and the more wound up you get the easier it is to remain calm. I've been on both sides, so I've seen it in action...

Plus my own personal quantity for a sentient species is one that will kill each other for no reason...

Animals fight for food and will fight (though not leathally) for the right to mate. It takes Humans to fight because they call god by a different name or have a different skin tone...

Swashbuckler stars the late great Robert Shaw, best known for his portrayal as captain Quint in Speilberg's Jaws. He and a very young James Earl Jones are pirates in Jamacia. Beau Bridges is the hapless soldier sent to capture them. Genevieve Bujold plays the engenue and Peter Boyle the villian. It's a lot of fun, though nowhere near the intensity of Cutthroat Island or Pirates of the Carribean. It came out about 1977. I don't know if it's on DVD yet.

I could explain Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut and others to you, but then you would be depraved like me. Is that really what you want?

No, Afro's I know, but there was a word, a play one the phrase 'white man afro' and I think it was wafro.

they got popular a few years ago, around about the time the band At The Drive In released a single.

Now every one has them, including small children (v cute) and the crazy guy on my train into work this morning (ever been trapped in a very small airless lift while a crazy person interrogates you on wheather you liked the fact that he let you get into the lift first 'cause you were a girl? I don't recommend it, :scaredemoticon:)

but yes, afro's on white guys, fun.

(p.s. i went and did the smell test, its not perm solution that i like but old style setting lotion, think its cause it reminds me of my nana)

SERYN

Yes, finding out I was once a small child shocked me as well, apparently it didn't last long, according to my mother i've been acting 30 since I hit the age of six.

is the understanding of the movies worth the depravedness?

I like that too Citizen. You're my kind of crazy.

Yeah, ya see there's much simpler ways of being depraved. I'll happily show you a few if you'd like. I don't think there's anything to understand in Kubric's work. I mean do you have to understand a roller-coaster to enjoy the ride? I think they have a good beat and you can dance to 'em, but they're not philosophical masterpiece's. 'Course that's a matter of perspective. To someone who's never seen water deeper than 2 inches, 12 is deep. Then there's things living deeper in the ocean than we have the tech to see....

The loneliness calls him, And the edge which must be sharpened,
He's losing it. And he knows.
But there's a fighter in his mind and his body's tough
The years have been unkind, but kind enough." -Ocean Cloud (Marbles) -Marillion

its not so much the depth, nor the philosophy, simply that just think i'm missing the message, and want to know if thats the case, cause what I got from it was 'war is shit, mainly cause it makes men do bad things' (grossly oversimplified)

eyes wide shut was just - huh?

I realised the other day that my two favorite movies both seem to have the central messsage of 'stop being afraid and just live yer damn life' so to be honest, i'm happy sticking with the shallow, but its just that people always say how disturbed they are by war movies, and I'm just... not.

Well that's a question I can't objectively answer, as I have all ready declared myself to be depraved.

You dance with the devil, the devil don't change, the devil changes you.

Hey, Nothing simple or shallow about that. It's a good message. War is shit. yeah, I think our (human) race as a whole just hasn't grown up yet. Like children on the playground, we choose violence sometimes because it's the easiest option insteasd of the only. I won't say it's never right. Sometimes ya have to put down the rabid dog, there's just no saving him. Exploring other options completely first, that's the way I'd go. *shrug*
I don't get disturbed by them either. I don't get bothered by some other things that tend to bother people, maybe I'm broken, maybe I just see things differently. Crime shows that are overly graphic with images of opened bodies, bother most folk, I'm in the "It's just an object, it doesn't mean what you think." camp.
