Well, here we are. At the end of this week it'll be a month this this was all started!

For those of you just seeing this, or have been wanting to join, but are reluctant to, this isn't about listing all the stuff that we are doing. Though if you want to, go right ahead If you're doing stuff that others aren't, it just gives target for others to shoot for.

That being said, if you only want to post "did my workout" and not say what that was, that ok too (that's actually what I do ). Don't think that because you can't do much that you shouldn't do anything. I can't do much, but I'm getting better.

In fact, in the three weeks I've done this, I've started to notice actual tone starting to develope

But, onto what this whole thing is about. It's about us Browncoats getting fit and staying fit.

So, for some, this might start as no workout and changing the diet from 100% McDonalds to something more healthy (which wouldn't be hard in this case ), to the things that Browncoat1 does (that guy is crazy workout guy ).

Now, how is it done? Most of us, do our thing and post here when done. We also have had some discussions about what exercises are best, general guidelines, and recipies!

So join, get healthy/healthier and have fun

Week goal: Mon-Fri

My today is, after this is posted, I'm going to walk into the next room and do my workout. So, check day 1

ps I'm still waking up. So, if the fuzzyness factor is high, sorry

Hi all! Mind if I join in?

I'm pretty thin, but really just want to become more active and tone up a bit, particularly around the midsection. My goal is to have a nice, flat tummy that looks good in a bikini.

Anyway, I usually keep track of what I eat at this website:

http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/default.htm

It's free and gives me at least a general idea of whether I'm on track.

Like I said, I'm not overweight (my BMI is 21.0), but everyone can always use more exercise! I planned on going for a run this morning before work, but unfortunately I'm on a new medication (I have endometriosis) and it's making me nauseated, so I think today I'll just stick with my pilates DVD and do a bit of core strength training so I don't get too ill. Once my tummy feels better, I'll start my running routine.

Anyway, hope you don't mind if I jump right in. I think this is a fabulous idea, and I commend you all for sticking to it for 3 weeks already!

We would love it if you'd join! The more the merrier. In addition to the above description of our lovely little club I put the link to the original thread below which I think includes some workout tips, etc. As for me, I'm planning on walking later and am getting ready to do some toning exercises. Wish me luck!

I put in a 2.75 mile walk at lunch today.

Going to the gym again this afternoon.

Didn't weigh in Friday, but will weigh in today.

Yah, re-reading my post, it does look like I'm taking credit for starting this thing. Sorry

Hope your workout went well and that you find the time for tonight's walk

@All:
It was Persephone736 that started this. I just seem to be responsible for creating the weekly thread.

@KellyOfLuthien:
Welcome

I wish you luck in your goal of tone-y goodness

@Browncoat1:
Shiny! Keep it up

Haha. I totally wasn't accusing you. I just thought maybe we could get some more people to stick around if they knew what happened to the old post (which has lots of tips and such)- therefore I included it in my signature. But thanks for acknowledging that! :) And yes, I did get time in for my walk- a short one but a walk nonetheless.

PS I appreciate (I'm sure we all do) that you keep up with posting the weekly threads!
PPS I'm happy you're developing some tone:)

30 minutes w/ the weights. Did 2 miles on the treadmill hill sequence. Did 5 miles on the bike w/ the steady incline program. Did 15 minutes on the cross trainer machine.

Weighed in, but I am a bit disheartened. I have not dropped any weight in the last 6 days.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

You guys are doing a lot more exercise than me!

Today, since I didn't run, I did 30 lunges, 20 minutes of pilates focusing on abs, 5 minutes of stretching (my hamstrings are tight!) and 5 minutes of upper body with resistance bands. Just trying to ease my way into it now. Here's hoping I can get to the point where I can do 68624 miles like Browncoat1!

Oh, by the way, I'm 5' 6 1/4" and 132 pounds. Not really interested in losing weight, just inches around my waist/flattening my tummy.

I have been keeping busy. Skipped ballet last week, but hope to make it today. May have to run calves instead. Gorram junior rodeos anyway.

I went and splurged too much and bought a fitball and band set along with the soundtracks to Firefly and Serenity. Strange combo I know. Hope to use it tonight or tomorrow morning. Maybe not tonight if ballet goes rough. Have been holding my arms in proper position. OUCH! Talk about a workout.

@Persephone736:

Thanks

Short walks are a hell of a lot better than no walks

@Browncoat1:

Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So, I would imagine that the gain/loss for muscle/fat is balancing. Yes? That waist-line shrinking?

@KellyOfLuthien:

Sounds like you've hit the ground running! Good show

@Sassalicious:

Exam time can suck. Much better to deal with that without having your body have to deal with a lot of other stress as well ie working out.

@AZBrowncoat:

I imagine those are both workouts in there own respect though, right?

Y'all keep up the great work

For today, I'm not going to workout. Yesterday ended in unpleasentness for my stomach. So, even though I'm feeling better, I want to give my body more time to deal with whatever it was dealing with yesterday.

Okay, I walked close to two miles today. Would've walked more but five minutes in I got this weird cramp-like pain, so I thought it'd be best to cut it short. I did three sets of lunges and upgraded to four sets of squats. Also got in some arm work. I do feel a little more flexible though which is definitely an improvement. I think back to this time last year and remember that when I did walk (which wasn't as much as now) it was usually only a mile to a mile and a half. So I'm already making some improvement. Thanks to everyone for being so supportive of each other- definitely a big help. I often find that I'll make myself exercise just so I can come and tell you guys:)

Excellent work, everyone!

Day Two for me. Today I did a brisk walk/light jogging at times for about 1.5 miles. Also did 30 lunges and 5 minutes with the resistance bands for my upper arms. Later on tonight I might do some stretching since I'm sure my muscles'll be sore. Nothing crazy, but I still feel good. It's better than nothing!

I'M FREE!!!!! Well, for a little while at least.

Anyway. Just got back from working out. I had 60 minutes of cardio: 30 on the elliptical and 30 running/fast walking.

Tomorrow morning, I'm heading to FL for a few days, so I don't know if I'll be on here at all (not sure of the internet situation), but I'm going to try and run/swim laps. Staying physical shouldn't be too tough because I think we're going to the beach once or twice.

I've also just decided to set up a reward system for myself. I can't use a new bathing suit reward because I just got one, but when I lose 10 pounds, I'm going to get a new piercing. Yay!

Go me! I just got back from playing a mean game of baseball!

I talked my friend into playing catch with me. While we were at the local university, a couple younger kids came up and asked us to play with them, so we shrugged and said why not? And hour and a half later we felt good!

I don't know how many calories baseball burns, but my heart was pumping, so I think I did a decent workout.

Tay, quick question, if you don't mind: Any suggestions on which workouts would be best to get rid of belly flab on a woman? I'm trying to alternate between cardio and a pilates dvd that focuses on core and abs right now, but I could always use an expert opinion!

First of all, playing baseball is a great way to burn calories, roughly 300 calories per hour! To answer your question: Your definitely on the right track, cardio is the best way to lose inches. Pilates is great for working your core. Unfortunately, where we carry our weight most is where we lose last! I know it sucks. If you've been doing that pilates dvd for a while (say over 6 weeks) your body is probably ready for something new. If you got a yoga/balance ball, those are great for working your abs, floor crunches are always good...old but good. If you've got other dvd's that focus on abs, those will give you enough of a change as well. For cardio - one of the best ways to burn calories and work the abs is kickboxing. I have a few dvd suggestions if you'd like them. Another cardio option is swimming. Talk about overall toning and cardio killer! You'll burn roughly 12 calories a minute - 720 cals per hour! I hope this answers your question. If you want more specifics let me know. Great job!

OK, I'm in.
3 sets of 50 push-ups, 15 minutes on the speed bag, 15 on the heavy bag (punching & kicking), an hour on the bike.
My workout isn't bad, it's the M&M's and Singapore Mei-fun that are getting me...

Do you know what your sin is Captain?

Tay, thanks for all this advice! I know that silly belly flab is hard to get rid of, and up until 2 years ago I had nice, flat abs, but then I hit my mid-20's and my metabolism changed (but my eating didn't at first!) Now I'm on track with eating, and after that inital gain of 20 lbs 2 years ago(I went from 115-135, now I'm at 132) I haven't gained more weight, but I'd still like to tone up. I had used the pilates DVD after Christmas, but got out of the habit, so I just started it up again. I have a balance ball, so I'll start using that again as well. Also, our swimming pool will open in May, so that'll give me a good chance to get some exercise in (and I LOVE swimming, so it'll be fun exercise!).

I'd love to hear more about your DVD suggestions!

ETA: Tay I just noticed you are from St. Louis, MO! I grew up in Collinsville, IL, right across the river, and got my BA from Wash U! Small world

KellyofLuthien - it is a small world. currently i'm at UMSL which i absolutely loathe! anyway, i highly recommend Turbojam! it's a combination of kickboxing, dance, lots of ab stuff and very intense (you'll burn mucho calories!). look at www.turbokick.com then find the turbojam link. it'll give you all the info you need. i should let you know that my opinion is very biased because i teach it at the gym. might be of interest to you. enjoy!

Cool, Tay! But not that you hate UMSL I was just looking at PhD programs in St Louis for Clinical Psychology and was reading about UMSL's program...but maybe I'll be a bit more cautious about it now. I went to WashU for undergrad in psych, and also went there for grad school in Social Work but ended up transferring to New Mexico and finishing my MSW there. But I also came very close to going to SLU. I really liked WashU and SLU, if you ever feel you need a change...

Thanks for the link! I'll go check it out now. :)

I wouldn't look so unkindly on a 2 mile walk. Everything you do is a plus and helps. Keep it up

Hi all! Just checking in.

Yesterday I took the day off. Seems my poor body didn't take too kindly to so much baseball when I'm so out of shape! But today I was back in the swing of things. Jogged for 30 minutes and did some upper body training with my resistance band.

Also, today I got a new kickboxing dvd to try out, annnnnd: new running shoes! Yay!

Hello again!

Today I did my pilates dvd to give my legs a bit of a rest. Also did some good stretching to help out my poor muscles after all this hard work.

Also, my stupid washer broke, so today was spent hauling out all the water that's just sitting in there. Might not be a lot of exercise, but lifting gallon buckets of water over and over again has to count for something!

Hope everyone is doing well this weekend.

Mom and I went hiking today on a very tough trail. It's called Humpback Rocks and it's about a 45 degree incline for a mile and then back down the mountain making it about a two mile roundtrip. I'm going to be hurting tomorrow but am glad I did it:)

Wow-everyone is doing great! It was wonderful reading what everyone's been doing and getting caught up on the thread.

Back to me. I've been doing the tourist thing in FL since last wednesday and here's the rough "workout" breakdown: swimming on wednesday, racing around amusement parks on thursday and friday, and swimming/tanning on saturday.

Now I'm just slightly [/] sunburned (and of course, by slightly I mean a walking lobster) and looking forward to starting week 5 tomorrow!

Good work, everyone!

Haven't exercised yet today (unless you count cleaning the house and scrubbing the kitchen floor exercise! ), but after it cools down a bit I am planning to go for a walk or jog. This will make 6 out of the past 7 days this week that I exercised! Go me!

Hope everyone who celebrates Easter had a pleasant holiday!

ETA: Got a mile walk in! Better than nothing!

SIRI

Hi,
I'm a FF newbie here but have quicky become obsessive. Saw this link and would love to join up. I'm 5'6" 133. Pretty good shape but like having support as I sometimes get myself too busy and slack off on my work-outs. I try to work out at fitness and martial arts club 3 to 4 times a week, do yoga daily, some free weights and pilates. I'm pretty good about watching what I eat, no red meat or fried food, lots of fruits and vegies and whole grains. I do like my chocolate and have a sweet tooth but try not to OD on it.

Didn't work out today except for about 20 minutes of yoga this morning and a round or two with my Kickboxing bag. Plan to do a conditioning class in the morning and Kickboxing on Sunday.

I have no idea how I posted this 3 times! Not even sure if this link is still going.
