Widgets, little programs that sit on your desktop and do anything and everything but no matter what they do they all do one thing, eat up Ram!

If you have a Mac you obliviously uses then, Opera 9.0 you uses them, and they can be used in windows with the Add of the Yahoo! widget engine. Heck even Vista is going to have its own version called “Gadgets”. But the question is do you use them? There fun and they look cool and they can sometimes be useful but are they worth the Ram they take up?

Personally I’m trying out Yahoo! Widget engine right now. I’ve got a clock in the bottom right a picture of River in the top right a weather bug and the evil overlord spouting quotes at me. But honestly I don’t know if I’ll keep it. Time shall tell.

So what do you think?

I wasn't even aware that they were called widgets. I guess I'm too "old school". When I here widgets, I think of buttons, etc not what these marketing people apparently call little programs.

At any rate, I find the weather and calender programs on my dashboard quite useful. Especially since I don't have cable or rabbit ears, and I don't have a sense of time

But, you can turn them off if you don't want them, so anything that is a "waste" is the users own fault, IMO.

And as you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.

Weren't TSR's just meant to "add" some functionality but not seen? Or is my memory failing me?

I now have a little countdown widget counting down to Serenity Cubed. These things are surprisingly addictive. Good thing I have a gig of ram!
