Thank you dearies, but i'd never even think of suggesting such a thing! (theres no way i'd wan't anyone to be black-bagged in the middle of the night by dubya's secret police)

Well, it looks like any further dangerous adventures on the tree have been put paid to.

But I get the feeling little Seryn will tire quite easily of fluffy bunnies and ice cream. Does anyone fancy a life of (space?)piracy on board a thread incarnation of The Drobies Revenge?(or even two ships, as we have two Captainesses)

(plus, real Seryn was just getting into this whole adventure writing lark)

however, since its my idea i'm still vetoing angst.

nah. ok, i'll allow a smidgen of angst.

It doesn't have to be a sea ship. We could go anywhere (and i'm not suggesting leaving the Tree, I agree, fluffy bunnies, cute, I have a pair.

But while we were enjoying the writing, the plotting and the more sci-fi ish stories, otheres were hating it, and its not fair really. So we could work it so we can stay there and still have double or alt reality usses still on the tree to play and be crazy, and still have somewhere else to go and exercise the writing muscles and play and be crazy. Or we could just start entirely independantly, in any location, on any ship/boat/jcb/flying garden shed, with all the stories we've been starting and at the pace we want as well.

I agree that there's plenty of energy in the tree folk for both. I think it's time for a break. I don't want to see a schism on the tree, I'm up for some Hi-larity to ensue. The other stuff will come around again, when it's time. Good writing should contain all things. Joss's brillant writing wouldn't be the same without the humour. I feel successful with some of my dark angsty and actiony writing, and I know I've been successful with another type, So, I'm up for expeirmenting with humour and fun for a while. then when the other stuff creeps back in, the Tree will be even better.
Just my thoughts. We still have the Nook and the Hidey tower for random shenanigans. I've enough serious in my life right now. A break is nice.

ok, though waiting for the other stuff to come around again isn't the point, people don't want it on the tree, so its not appropriate to make them 'suffer it' periodically, likewise, its not appropriate to not let others enjoy it, so a separate thread is the best way to go for all.

Anyway, Safe has made a decision to go off after more adventures, so the point is moot as lil' Seryns stolen the fighter again and is off with him. :D

(um, and don't take this the wrong way, but every single post i've written has been striving for the humor (and scorning all angst) am I too vague? And you are right, good writing should contain all things. Conflict is the driving force of a story)

I feel I'm just not a very random person, I need a purpose to my shenanigans. So i'll either just leave off for a while (dropping in of course to deliver dresses and shoes and Cozys box of self tying silk ropes, or join in with whatever Safe et al does.

well, I don't see why it can't all happen on the same thread, and considering you wanted fun and less angst, you went with the wrong group. but as you said, you can always come back and forth as you like. There was fun stuff on the Tree way back when Safe was doing his Boros thing... before everyone went after him. It's ok to have different groups in different places. I'd rather my next many showers be about removing the pies and chocolate, instead of the blood and gore. If just for a little while. Of course, I'm not upset with people who want to be serious, I just don't want to go along for the ride for the next few threads. It's about fun. If being hounded by every cruiser in the verse is fun, enjoy. If swimming and shooting pool and playing pinball or playing lazer tag in the common room is more fun. that should happen too. Whatever works. of course it's not up to me, I just don't want to see the Tree split over somepeople wanting to relax for a while.

You may not believe me, but I was hoping that SR would be able to take time of from peril to do other things: tinkering, Tai Chi, distilling hard alcohol, brewing beer and meade, cooking sourdough, maybe take in a few classes with Jazaf and discover inner zen warrior that conquers through infinte stillness, etc.

This dos not mean I want non stop cream pie fights, a personal piffle pony, and confection bath to lounge in.

I want the right to angst, but angst is not my end goal. I want to have adventures, but not to the exclusion of all things. I want that apartment in engineering I have waited so long to get and now it looks like I going to a bunch of clowns and silly people as a tenants comittee. There goes the neighborhood.

Seryn I would run off with you and the commerce crew, but Safe's the captain and you know how he and I don't get along. So right now I'm going to hunker down in the depths of engineering and play it by ear. Maybe Jet and I will go on a quest to find GreyJedi.

There's a brewery behind the bar, I've already got that going. I'm the ship brewmaster, you're welcome to help mix new brews.
There's a time and place for the angst. many have just had enough for now. I hope no one feels forced to participate in the silly, but I know many felt forced to participate in the serious. I think both can be a lot of fun.
let the clowns have their/our space for a while. participate or not as you like. there will be adventures, it's just time some of those adventures involve pools of Jell-O.

It can't all happen on the same thread because a lot of people don't want it to (and most of those people being the founding members) the period they are complaining about I get the impression, was from when they found that ship and several crew members 'disappeared' or 'died'. They want the Tree to be somewhere light hearted and to them that doesn't include the type of storyies that we were writing. So its just not right to foist it on them. And as fun as jelly and sitting in chocolate and drag pagents can be i'm sure, I just can't think that reading or writing about taking showers then riding ponies is diverting enough.

I would have liked to have stayed, can't say I would have posted much, but. But hey, the chance was there and I took it. And its not like an 'adventure' thread automatically equals wall to wall angst - Firefly, Farscape, any show you care to mention has action, drama, humor and carzy hijinks aplenty. Nope, I don't remember much angst in them. ('cept maybe the occaisional bit of romantic mooning over Inara/Aeryn)

But whatever. There are no decisions to be made. The joy of this place is that you go with the flow and whatever will be will be.

I'm looking forward to it.

I have completely forgetten what we were talking about before. Gagh!

Edit - Having scrolled back up... Pirates! Of course, how could I think otherwise? Has everyone got their costumes sorted?

Um...all we do on this floor and the Nook is exactly what the TREE used to be. Errant nonsense and constant silliness and conversations meandering like dandylion fluff in the wind.

And no one freaked out about it. Until now.

And I don't think we need to freak out now. I thik we all just need to take a deep breath and settle down.

It's going to be okay, I promise.

Go back, when you get a chance, and read some of the earlier TREE threads. Then you'll understand why I'm not worried about everything.

And may I please declare the rest of this thread a "No Talking About the TREE Zone"?

I love all of you, but I can only discuss something for so long. I need a place where I can get away from it. If not here, than maybe please the Nook?

Personally I find the idea of a RPT where we all sit in chocolate all day as rather dull, just personal preference, and that seems to be where things are headed, each to their own, just not for me so much.

If that was the choice I'd have to spend more time in the RWED and I spend enough time getting thread started about how much of an idiot I am as it is...

So adventure threads ahoy, but can we have a little less inexplicable magic...

The bank I went to said they'd loan me £110,000, which around where I live is about enough for a small garden shed over-looking a chemical/biological/nuclear dumping facillity.

But yeah . I did want to get a house, but it looks like my first purchase is going to have to be a small flat somewhere...

Which reminds me I've been looking at what I could get:

Wow you mean to tell me this was originaly a serious thread!

Being a relatively new poster, please forgive me for not reading all 17 floors before I started posting. When I started on the 18th floor there was sillyness going on and I thought I would join in the fun. Kind of a release for my silly side. Fact is in RL most people consider me too serious. I certinly apologise if any of my posts irritated or offended.

So please someone set me straight is this thread for sillyness or serious storytelling? Or did i just get things totaly confused?

Ooh, buying a flat! So very grown up.

That fish place looked so teeny. Weency little bathroom, weency little kitchen.

The kitchen in the ₤235 one was weency too. I lived in a 3rd floor box (an efficiency where it's all one little tiny room) once, and had a bigger kitchen than that.

And you should print out the advert, take it there and try to give them the ₤235 in cash and tell them you'll take the house NOW. It'd be amusing. Especiall if you acted like you couldn't understand why they won't take your money.

"But it says right here. ₤235. I've got ₤240 in my hand!"

I used to drive by this truck that sold strawberries on the side of the road in Florida that had a sign that advertized that the strawberries were "3 for $.3!!!" I always wanted to come up to them with 3 cents and demand my 3 pints of berries.

This is Hidey Towers, there are no rules.

The Nook is for laid back loafing,

The Tree waszany space adventures. Now it is earthyly Tree house based whimsy (I like TRM's word!)

at some point a zany space adventure thread will start, and then we'll aaaaall be utterly confused!

No, they are all whatever you want them to be, whenever. (apart from the tree, which TWG wants keeping light and fluffy)

Sean, you are buying a house? you brave soul. I've resigned myself to being a renter for life. Ah well. That flat looks ok, if its just a starter, you can put up with economy 7 heating. ;D

As a relative newbie, I thought these threads were for fun. I will admit that I did not fully read all the threads prior to my jumping in, but I did scan them...they did not seem serious. I enjoy popping in and goofing off. There are quite a number of "heavy" threads elsewhere, and I found this one accomodating for those of a less-serious bend...
I would love to jump into the Sereni-Tree and other storyline-based threads, but they seem to be well-developed and "closed". This thread, and the "Nook" threads fit the virtual world quite nicely.

Sorry, just my opinion.

MAI

That's what I meant to say... I started the whole thread as a joke after someone who shall remain nameless *points finger* and I discussed the whole portal to the place where all the nice guys are/were hiding. So technically, its all your fault! And then somehow the whole thing got convolted into this serious discussion about the evils of dating and what not at which point I chose to run far, far away. Then somehow we jumped back to silly and fun hidey thread and all was well with the 'verse. THE END. (but not really the end. Cause I like it here. I don't want it to end. EVER! We shall all be 90 years old and still hanging out on the 3000th floor of the hidey tower.)

Hey! It wasn't just me! If you will kindly remember there were several other people involved in the discussion of the portal. Lissa and Alawai? I think. Someone in Sweden, because, remember, we decided that's where all the nice guys hide?

So, it wasn't entirely my fault, though I do confess to playing a large role. What can I say? I get bored easily.

Sweden? Not all the nice guys hide there. There are a few self-confessed nice guys (I guess we need to be judged to determine if we are worthy) sprinkled all over the rest of the world!

Oh right you are. There was something to do with Sweden. My brain was swiss cheesed its been so long since this all started.

Tristan,

See, this whole thread started one day when a few of us single female types were in chat one day complaining about how we can never meet nice guys. We figured they must all be hiding somewhere since none live anywhere near us! Maybe there's a secret Nice Guy club where they all hang out. Well, it was determined that the Nice Guy Secret Hidey Club was located in Sweden and so we determined to figure out a way to get to Sweden and find the Nice Guys. So, we started trying to make portals, since that would be the quickest and easiest since none of us can afford plane tickets to Sweden. (or the necessary wardrobe-brrr!)

That turned into the first Hidey Hole thread wherein people began to debate just what a Nice Guy is and then rant about our singleness and air our dirty laundry. Eventually, we got sick of ranting and decided to just enjoy each others' company. We keep building floors. We installed a bar, threw some couches around, added my patented SuperDuperMegaUltraIncrediblyComfySquishyFloor™, the pool, the beach, etc. and let things happen as they may.

That is the story of the skyscraper.

The end.

Thank you, Serenity! I figured the threads that have numbers in them just indicated the insanity level that each had reached I have enjoyed posting to them, and reading what is going on each day...kinda lifts my spirits when I can actually add something to the play.

By the way, did you ever find the nice guys, or are they still all hiding in Sweden?

Sorry to hear that...unless that is by choice. I'm not looking, just hoping everyone finds happiness.

If it helps, Continental has flights from Atlanta this weekend to Stockholm for less than $1200.00 round trip (May 12-May 31)

nonsequiter (sp?)

I can't wait for Pirates 2 to come out. I hope it's just as much fun as the first one. And I hope the soundtrack is as exciting.
