hangar bay of the Tree: SR with the help of Snarky assembles several low tech catapaults. He then creates a whole assortment of prototype projectiles, suitable all sorts of applications: laser guided missles with engines that remotely trigger, tracer beacons, remote detonation mines, EMP delivery systems, armor pierceing high explosive warheads, harpoons with grappling cables, chaff dispersers for electronic counter measures, crybabies that will stick to what ever they are shot at including another ship. All of these launchable from catapaults.

SR then sends a V-mail to TRM.

"I have some of those armaments I promised you in the shuttle bay. When you have time come and have a look see."

SR and Snarky then haul the rest of his goodies down to engineering and begin vodka production. Once the still is up and running SR sets about making his quarters his own.

*** BACKING UP A BIT ***

TheRealMe helps ScorpionRegent and Wisp clear the Hanger of damaged equipment in order to get it operational for the missing shuttles. Unfortunately, when the Admiral Nelson crashed, it smashed the forklifts and other moving equipment. With real muscle needed, and with Sparky absent, TheRealMe goes to the only place he can. He departs for a time, and returns wheeling a dolly that carries what looks like a partially broken statue of a young woman. Most particularly, it is missing an arm. If ScorpionRegent did not blink when Ebonezer returned for a short time three threads ago, he will realize that this is an image of the Sereni-Tree’s Captain. It seems to have some marks written on its forehead.

TheRealMe sadly regards the damaged statue. Then he nods. “Ebo Golem, follow me.” The statue creaks and groans, and more bits fall off as it struggles to move. It gets down from the dolly and limps after TheRealMe, dragging a leg. “Ebo Golem, please take this shuttle…” He pats the hull of the damaged Admiral Nelson. “… and put it over there.” He points.

The Ebo Golem limps over to the shuttle, grabs hold of a strong point seemingly built for that purpose, and pulls. The statue struggles for a time, with more bits falling off it. TheRealMe cringes at this sight. But slowly, surely, creaking and scraping noises show that the Ebo Golem is having an effect. The Nelson begins to move across the hanger deck.

TheRealMe follows with a dustpan and brush, collecting bits that have fallen from the broken statue. He notices Wisp’s questioning look. “Oh, two Christmases ago, somebody built this statue of Captain Ebonezer. Later, I had a reason to magically animate it. It’s not sentient in any way. It’s just a tool.”

Wisp seems dubious. “It’s not in very good repair.”

TheRealMe grits his teeth. “Recently, back on Boros, we were boarded. There was a big fight in the Common Room. The Ebo Golem, here, got shot… with a rocket launcher. I tell you, superglue is not doing the job.”

As the DRDs scurry around doing their jobs and the Ebo Golem painfully drags the Nelson across the hanger deck, a trio of very large individuals enter the hanger bay. They have white fur and are wearing hardhats. One of them steps forward and bellows, “Friends need help move things? Ervin help! Assan help! Hewitt help!”

Another of the creatures steps forward. “Corbin say she help, too, but Corbin knocked up. No big lift or push or carry for Corbin. Lichna stay with Corbin. Make sure.”

TheRealMe gladly puts the three yeti to work.

After the hanger is cleared, TheRealMe and the yeti depart and ScorpionRegent begins his tinkering on Snarky.

Citizen fires taking out the wing on the one fighter, causing it to veer into the other fighter, the explosion takes out both fighters.

The ISSCV and the Dagger fly through the debris and into the calmness of the black. Sparky tucks the shuttle into formation with the other two ships.

Sparky veers the Napoleon out of formation with Dagger and the ISSCV. The shuttle shrinks as he does so, and is lost from sight.

The helicopter containing Mai and LightMeDark plummets for a time. Then its descent slows. Then it stops entirely, and resumes hovering in mid-air. This is quite odd, considering that its rotors have stopped spinning due to it running out of fuel.

From below, Mai and LMD hear a familiar voice. “Good day, Miss Mai, Mister Dark,” Sparky calls up. “I didn’t want to disturb you while you were sleeping, but I couldn’t help but notice that your vehicle has run out of fuel. Would you care to board the Napoleon Bonaparte and return to the Sereni-Tree with me?”

It seems that Sparky had maneuvered the Napoleon underneath the helicopter when it started falling, cushioning its fall. The helicopter is now being supported by the shuttle.

TheRealMe returns to the hanger bay after getting the message of SR. He is clearly impressed by the array of weapons, and especially impressed by Snarky, whom he examines minutely.

"Well, thank you! It seems that you are quite the engineer. Would you be willing to train us in the operation of these weapons?"

"Sure, catapaults are extremely low tech which is why reavers like them so much. These are improved versions of Ballistae. They go back as far as ancient Rome, on earth that was. Essentially they are giant crossbows. I added cams and pulleys to increase the force and these are made of spring steel and braided winch cable instead of wood and rope, but the principaI still applies. I plan on mounting them in discreet locations on the outer hull in some form of pop up mount so they don't show up visually when we are coming into port at some civilized location. The mounts will be capable of spinning a full 360 on the horizontal and go 180 on the vertical. I still need to figure out a way to make them self loading, but I all ready figured out how to make them fire remotely, observe."

SR prodouces a small device the size of a tv remote control from his pocket. He articulates it so a control pad is revealed. he pushes a button and a click is heard from the nearest Ballistae. There is a whine as a winch engages and the great bow is pulled back to full draw. There is another click and the winch shuts off. SR turns to Snarky.

"Snarky if you would be so infinitely kind as to please load that two by four into the balistae."

Snarky loads the two by four into the Ballistae and steps away from the catapault. SR motions that he and TRM should move behind a stack of shipping crates. He then hands TRM a pair of safety glasses and dons a pair himself. TRM puts on the safety glasses. SR pushes a button on the control pad and the Ballistae fires. The two by four flys across the shuttle bay and impacts a section of spare hull plating that SR and Snarky had set up as a target and explodes into a shower of splinters.

"Newton stated that a body at rest or in motion tends to stay that way unless acted upon by some outside force. Outside of a planets gravity any missile fired from a Ballistae will not stop and maintains it's momentum. So range is infinite. They are so small that they will not show up on sensors If we want even more speed we can add a rocket that fires after the missle is launched. So as you can see using one of these is a push button operation. I'll hook up a joy stick to control servo motors and camera gunsite arrangement to work out aiming them once they are on the hull. The projectiles I'll have to figure out some more buttons for, but they are pretty much fire and forget, with a few exceptions. I'm thinking a projectile with a thermite lance tip that could burn through anything would be a real ship killer if it hit in the right spot. Oh, I'm sorry, any questions?"

"Well, this is a rather low-tech answer to weapons technology, but I suppose that will save us power. These are mostly for close-in fighting, I expect, or otherwise you would need to take into account enemy velocity and light-speed lag. Perhaps we can install computers with prediction algorithms. Still, if your target changes course, we wouldn't know it until the light arrived.

"Also, I've been conducting experiments in metallurgy involving blades with mono-molecular cutting surfaces. Perhaps projectiles of that sort would make these weapons more effective. But as you say, we can also launch rockets that have their own motive power."

TheRealMe muses.

“I think I’ve got an idea” Says Wisp leaving the hangar bay. TRM and SR exchange bemused looks and continue their work.
Wisp walks down to engineering for the first time and is quite surprised by what he see’s. The room is badly lit and cables and pipes hang everywhere. With great care he steps inside squinting in the twilight formed from the coloured hues from different machines.
“hello. Anybody Here”

“hi” says a voice from right behind Wisp making him jump and let out a very uncool noise “sorry did I frighten you?”
“No im fine”
“I'm Jet. And you are?”
“Wisp still fairly new. Listen SR TRM and me were making some weapons in the hangar and I was wondering if you could help me out?”
“sure what do ya need? But don’t say power cos were running low at the minute”
“Chemicals actually. I was after some tribenzoicmethylsulphate and azophenolaminite?” Jet looks at Wisp like he’d just asked for some pixie dust “The first should be a coolant liquid and the second a bio-hydraulic fluid.”
“oh. Yeah ill look through my stocks and see if we’ve got any” She walks off and disappears into the gloom. Wisp continues to stand very still afraid of falling over and breaking something. “why do you need em?” shouts a disembodied ethereal voice from the back of the room.
“were making low tech weapons and if you combine those two with the right catalyst, say a ships hull, you create a very corrosive acid”
“Cool. Where’d you learn that?”
“In my time handymanning in lots of jobs I spent my evenings studying chemistry from text books and when I worked as a janitor in a lab I arranged a bit of tutoring”
Jet returns with Two large barrels on a trolley “here ya go we’ve got loads back there. Good luck!!”
“thanks” Says wisp as he takes the hover trolley and returns to the hangar.
“Where’d you go?” asks SR as he tinkers with his ballista.
“Gathering supplies. Watch this”
Wisp takes a pipette of one liquid and places it on a piece of scrap. Nothing happens
“WOW im in awe!” says TRM
“Wait”
Wisp then places the scrap on a very large pile of scrap and drops a pipette of the other liquid on top of the first. The pile of scrap immedatley melts leaving a molten mess on the floor.
“Good enough for ya?”

CALLMEATH

*Ath and Kelly travel past the castle (does Ath look back? Surely not, sir, not Ath!), eventually running across a stream. Having nothing better to do, they decide to follow it.

After a few hour's march, Kelly's elven nose picks up the scent of salt water. Picking up their pace, they eventually find themselves on a beach. Not just any beach, however, but the apotheosis of beaches. White sand, without a single washed-up sea creature, clear blue water, gentle waves. Also on the beach are a couple of beach chairs with umbrellas, a fully stocked bar, and a large hammock made for two, tied between two palm trees.

Ath walks over to the bar and looks around.*

"Dang, looks like we have to help ourselves. What would you like?"

"Invader's blood marches through my veins like giant radioactive rubber pants. The pants command me! Do not ignore my veins!"

Kelly appears not to hear Ath at first. She is staring at the sea, letting the rush of waves and wind and the low, mournful cries of the gulls wash over her like a living memory. She knows in her bones that she is facing West, West where her Elvenhome of everlasting joy and light should lay, but it's not there. She's not there. Her eyes are level with the grey horizon where sea meets sky, but her soul pushes futher, trying to reach her kin, to hear their clear voices again. But it's in vain.

"Kelly?"

Kelly turns around, the wind blowing her hair wildly around her, and for a moment Ath sees her filled with light, the ring around her neck glowing red with fire. His eyes widen, but Kelly smiles and the image is gone. He sees her take a breath, let out a laugh like water falling over smooth stones, and suddenly the spell is broken. She is young and free again, and she skips over to her winged hero and plants a kiss on his cheek.

"Pina colada, please. And can I have one of those little paper umbrellas?"

"Well if we are in front of them, they won't see the projectile till it hit's them and they probaly won't see it any way. Besides if the Tree is traveling at say 10% of C and we shoot a projectile it's still traveling at 10% of C too plus the added vector of the launch."

"Just one of the multitude of possibilities. I can strap a rocket and a guidance system onto one of these and some small direction gas jets and it's a guided missle masqueradeing as a low tech giant arrow. The other ship can say, 'You're silly I'll just dodge that.' Then the rocket fires and homes in on the other ship's engine, boom.

"You know, TheGreyJedi was also an enthusiast of low-tech weapons. I'll have to take you up to the roof sometime to see his MaRTHA: 'Mighty and Righteous Trebuchet, Hellacious Armament'.

Yes I have heard talk of this in hushed and reverent tones.

"That's great we can save that for a truly special occasion. Now please clean in up before it eats through the hull and leaves us sucking vacuum."

SR looks at his watch and turns to TRM and Wisp.

"Gentlemen it's been a very long day. I need to put my quarters in order and get some sleep. If anything comes up you know where to find me." SR then turns to Snarky

"Snarky I am going back to my quarters. I thank you greatly for all your help. If you like you may run self diagnostics and recharge your power cells. When you next see me let me know if you find any problems. You can talk to the DRD's if you like or shut down your outer systems."

As SR enters engineering he hears the the muffled sound of some one crying. He walks quietly across the deck till he finds Jet sitting with her knees against her chest sniffling. He slowly walks over and sits down next to Jet and hands her a bandanna out of one of his many pockets.

"Are you hurt?" he asks

Jet shakes her head and wipes her tears.

"Did some one die?"

Again the head shake, followed by a nose blow.

SR slowly puts his arm around Jet's shoulders.

"Then it's not so bad. Talk to me."

"Hmm, I probably shouldn't have given you the idea that I know how to make drinks. That has coconut juice in it, right?"

*Just then, Ath notices a drink guide under the bar. He carefully reads the recipe, then mixes Kelly a drink.

Fortunately, Ath is momentarily blinded by the reflection of the sun off the surf, and doesn't notice the face Kelly makes.*

Kelly gulps her drink quickly, hoping Ath doesn't notice the twitch in her eyes every time she swallows.

"Thanks. How about something less....well, less alcoholic?"

Ath rummages around for a bit before producing two waters with fresh fruit floating in them. As Kelly drinks her water, the rum hits her in one fell swoop. Apparently Elves can't handle rum very well. Kelly giggles.

"What?" Ath asks.

"Oh, nothing. You're cute," she giggles again.

"You look flushed."

Kelly rummages in a beach bag nearby, putting some sunscreen on her face. "Don't worry about it! I'm fine, I just--OOH, SNORKELS!"

JADEHAND

*JadeHand opens his eyes. He sits comfortably in the Captain's Chair of the bridge of the shuttle Ocean Cloud . He shakes his head to clear the recent images of his visit to the Blue Sun cruiser and the inner workings of the minds of those he has recently visited. He stands and walks to the rear of the shuttle, dropping articles of clothing along the way. He steps into the shower and turns up the water pressure in order to beat the blood from his body. Soap and water push the dried mess from his flesh and hair. His head hangs. Shame? Horror at what he's done? Maybe. Regret? Pity for those that came against and injured those he cares for? Not so much. His head drops further. As the reddening water slips off of him, only minor wounds are revealed. The blood... isn't his. The bruising at his side shows he still needs a visit to the doc. Hopefully Simon isn't overly busy with the others. Hopefully his patient has recovered.
JadeHand finishes cleaning his hair and body, turns off the water and steps out to dry himself. He shaves his face and trims his beard. He looks into the reflection of his own eyes, and sees something he's not seen in far too many years, and shudders at the thought of losing it again.
He steps out and finds a change of clothes, collects the others and drops them into a bag to be cleaned. Dressed and closer to ready to face the others, he gathers his bag and his new briefcase of goods. He steps to the front and deactivates the SEP. Others in the hanger become aware of the presence of Ocean Cloud just as the hatch opens and JadeHand steps out. He closes the door behind him and strolls out of the Hanger bay, down one flight of stairs to his room. He stashes his goods, unloads some of his bag, and begins the process of cleaning his clothes. With everything tidied, he heads off to the infirmary to be evaluated by the doc. Hopeful that not too many of his friends are in need of their own treatment.*

“It’s nothing, Warren, it’s just… We had some good times here, TheGreyJedi and Needleseye and I. Grey taught us things, amazing things about all his inventions. He was self-reliant, a loner. He was a hard guy to get to know, but we knew him, Needle and I. When I started working down here, I felt at home, for the first time since we Brides got here. Tinkering around, fixing this ship, it was something important. The three of us had good times together.

“But Grey left, and it seems Needle joined him. Why didn’t they take me with them, too? I’ve been wondering about that, and wondering when they might come back. Just about every day, I’ve been waiting for him to walk out of his quarters. Waiting for him to call us over to show us some new invention, some new toy.

“But now, they’ve moved you into Grey’s quarters. Moved his stuff out. That means… that means they don’t expect him to ever come back!”

Hello. *sips drink* I see some of you must have been swimming...sounds lovely. In fact, that is why I’ve called you all here today. It’s time for this to end. I’ve forwarded my plan to the Captain, she is aware of what I’m about to do. *finishes drink* I was here when the clubhouse opened...I have a certain responsibilty to make sure the days of men in kilts up on the roof and margaritas for everyone (of age of course) continue.

The angst stops here...today...you’ll notice there is no blood on any of you. No weapons in your holsters. Today I announce the Clubhouse return. The tree is slowly drifting down into its former home on Earth...handy thing all these Boiler Room butttons...Rat is a brilliant man....You are of course free to leave if you find the next challenge, um, not so challenging. *she looks over the crowd and spies a perfect assistant* Cozen, will you help me please...thank you

*he bounds up to the table and stands beside her..she hands him a green velvet dress* Will you please? *he ducks under the table to change*

No. Not the return of the slaves...the return of lighthearted, wacky, fun, chaotic times. Common Room hijinks and no death...destruction and mayhem for good times only, not blood and gore...Yeah, things were slower then, but we could all keep up...perhaps I'm living in the past.

I remember pie fights, dinosaurs, ice cream fun, dancing cages, movie days, beach volley ball, pony races...If that's where you all want to keep them, in the past, that's fine. I just won't be around to help. You can use my character if you want her.

Oooo, mellow times. Sounds good. We move at such fast speeds that I can barely keep up and I'm here way too much as it is.

Plus things are getting very confusing as to who is where and when. Settling back down a bit would be good plus we could let other people go off in adventures on other threads (it's not as though there's a limit to how many offshoots we can have).

JADEHAND

*JadeHand finds himself standing in the common room, miraculously healed, though he can't remember getting to the infirmary, and holding a icey cold margarita. Strange, he feels much less angsty. He pokes himself in the side where he was injured and it ...tickles. Just as he starts to ponder what has happened, and if it should be reversed...
He takes a long drink through the whipped cream topping before reaching for another pie.*

SERYN

Seryn finds herself stood in the common room, still peering out of the viewscreen trying to work out which is the real ship, hands still wrapped around the steering handles.

She straightens up, "I am way too liniar for this ship" She looks down and checks over harself. Her foot is healed, her pants as good as new. "whoa, good drycleaners!"

She listens for a while to the speeches, then the sight of Cozen in a dress reminds her of all the presents she baught for people. Looking for sparky, she's overjoyed to spot their shopping bags stacked in the corner.

"Well, I have rabbits to feed, and a wedding dress to make"

She wanders off, trying to remember where her room is.

On the Dagger:

"Umm, Safe? Where'd the Sereni-Tree go?" Grunt says looking up from his nav-comp.

"I have no idea..." Safe says looking puzzled. "What's the status of the ISSCV?"

"She appears to be drifting empty."

"Put a grappler on it. We can still use it. No sense leaving it here." Safe says, still confused and a little put out.

"Set course for these co-ordinates. Lets see if we can find Jenning's brother CastIronJack."

"What about the Tree Safe?" Bear asks.

"I was planning on looking for Jack anyway." Safe sighs, "Would've liked to have said goodbye to some...especially the little ones." Safe says softly. Then louder "Soul will know how to get in contact if he needs us."

"Course set." Grunt informs.

"Hit it Bear, time's a wastin'" Safe says then turns and looks out the window. "'Til we meet again...."

The Dagger's big engines power up and for a moment it seems to hang in time and space, then it's gone.

SERYN

(ooc - ok, if we're making decisions that quickly)

A moment later Seryn returns to the common room.

Safe wasn't back.

Did that mean the transport was abandoned? What just happened?

She checks around the room, but is unable to see who is there and who isn't.

She runs to the nearest observation window. They're in a completely different set of stars! She looks about franticly for the Dagger or the transport. Then gasps as she notices the fluctuating gossamer walls of the channel they are travelling in.

She runs to her room, shoving everything, bedding shopping, clothing and all, into her bag, except the rabbits, who she carefully places in their carrier. Then she runs to the fighter. She's scratched up, but show no damage other than that.
Jumping in she rushes the checks, straps the carrier down and buckles in, and is out of the Tree before tha bay doors even open fully. She thinks about Jade and SR, then realises they'll sort them selves out. She flicks on the comm link to Serenity, "I'll see you soon sweetie, I'll post you your dress!"

The Nandi speeds through the wormhole, or whatever it is, and emerges in the space around Commerce. The transport is still there, listing to one side slightly, beyond it almost out of view is the Dagger.

She watches as the Dagger sends out grapplers to snare the drifting transport. Quick as she can she flys at the larger ship attatching the fighter to its hull. Then tucks her head between her knees and hopes to god that she survives 'till the Dagger reaches its destination.

Wherever that may be.

(Ooc - ok, so I've no idea what I just said, but hey. Safe! Fancy a new crew member? Doesn't pretend to know anything, but has own ship!)

It's true, choclate jaccuzzis and fun hijinks doesn't seem to mix with death and destruction. I'd much prefer the latter though. Maybe there could be two different threads - maybe set on the same ship/part of the verse, only one more fun-based, the other more dark-adventure

SOULOFSERENITY

The Man They Call Soul...

Soul stands in a corner of the Common Room, his thoughts racing through his head. There are two major things pulling at him, one involving a love he still has, and another of a love he has lost. Across the room, he sees Serenity, happy, beautiful, and pregnant with his child. Then, in his mind's eye, he sees her, Ciaran, the love he lost, and he knows that if he will ever be able to give himself completley to Serenity, as much as he wants to, he has to close out that chapter in his life.

* * *

The hand holding the gun was the only thing Soul saw, and it froze him with fear. He couldn't move, couldn't run; and even as Ciaran screamed, and the gun went off, Soul couldn't save the one person who meant the most to him. He watched as Ciaran died, and then the laugh, the man who had held the gun, the man who had taken Ciaran from him had the nerve to leave him with a laugh. The shadows enveloped Ciaran's killer, all except for a glimpse of the man's arm, and a tatoo that Soul would never forget: a laughing skull wearing a jester's hat on a red diamond background. Laughing at death. Laughing at him.

* * *

The decision has been made. Soul walks to the nearest computer console and keys in a code, sending out a signal. With that done, he makes his way over towards Serenity, but he can't make himself speak to her. A tear wells up in the corner of his eye, and the love in his heart for her threatens to buckle his knees. He knows what he has to do, though. He loves Serenity more than anything, so in order to love her completley, he has to find the man who killed Ciaran, and end him. Make sure he never harms anyone else again.

So Soul writes a letter, and places it in Serenity's quarters. The he makes his way through the ship, speaking with a few people who may have a desire to help him on his quest, and tells them that if they wish, they can meet him at the airlock by the upper port cargo bay. He has a ship to take them on their way.

Almost as an afterthought, Soul goes back to the console and sends another message, this one labeled for a recently departed friend...actually, friends, and sends out rendesvous coordinates. If they can meet...Soul can use all the help he can.

With that completed, Soul goes to the upper port cargo bay to wait for any others.

Weirdgirl, I really wish that you had done me the courtesy of talking to me or messaging me before using the sledgehammer solution.

There must be a way to make a compromise that will not cause a schism. ESPECIALLY I do not want our family broken up just before our second aniversary.

Sheesh, Weirdgirl, it was you who caused your character to die from lack of air on the Nelson once, then had your character receive a traumatic gunshot wound to your head! Then there was the whole pondering your destiny angst when you were chosing between Static and SimonWho. It could be argued that you started such angsty events.

You say you want the clubhouse back. Fine. But why destroy the Sereni-Tree as a starship? Let those of us who wish angsty space adventures continue from our orbit over Commerce and Garrison. Those who want more whimsy can take the Original Clubhose (which we have in a hanger bay) and take THAT back to Earth-That-Still-Is.

We can even keep our permanent teleportal to Zoid's Pub at the Bottom of the Tree and either group can visit either place.

That is, unless you intend to impose restrictions on who is allowed to come to your clubhouse. For my part, anywone is welcome on the Sereni-Tree.

Give me a little time to think on this more, before the Schism occurs and we lose too many people.

(ooc- I know what you mean about keeping the family together, but if some people don't want adventures then its not fair to meke them wade through it in order to be whimsical. It not like the people on the new thread are going to turn round and declare war, its also not like going off for adventures forbids us them from visiting the Tree (end a thread with the landing of the ship nr the tree, play on the tree house for a while, then start a new adventure with a new ship thread. The joy of this place is its entirely flexible) So if TWG and others don't want it, we don't have to foist it on them)(an hey, its not like there ain't some ways to make doubles so people that wish to could be in both places at once - cloning, golems, time travel, totally ignoring the fact :D)

Wisp, awoken by th who har, wanders to the common room wearin a pair of jeans and a shirt that isnt fastened exposing himself to pg13 rating but not quite a 15. After hearing the Speach about the division of the tree he ponders for a while on where he should go.

The whimsy of the the tree house sounds appealing, no guns, swords, grenades, or people trying to kill him and more opportunity to get some skirt.
But he wasnt the type to sit in a chocuzzi drinking margarita's and disscuissing pie fights.
He longed for adventure no matter how risky. He wanted to be free to get excited and dangerous without having to retire and buy a cat.

After much thought he makes up his mind. He returns to his room and pats Doris on the head and leaves a letter.
"im sorry friends but im too young to retire to a life of random fun so im leaving. Please look after doris and dont forget my short time aboard.

Yours Wisp"

He packs his belongings into a small rucksack and remove his console again. He selects side-to-side transport and closes his eyes, he'll be back on ariel in a blink and he can return to his simple life. He presses enter and is lost in a flash of blue light.

On the nandi Seryn looks back to see a very bemused Wisp:

BEFORE ANYONE LEAVES, CONSIDER THIS:

I understand, I think, what ThatWeirdGirl wants. She wants a return to some of the happier, sillier times and adventures, perhaps like those we had in MaiQuest2, where we found a pirate ship and had to deal with them and the sharks in the water. Where we regularly used spamguns and hula-hoops as weapons. Where we had a lot less deadly peril and a lot less angst.

Some of our more recent additions have preferred a more realistic, gritty, violent style of writing. I personally have enjoyed these stories, but I can see where the constant violence can become oppressive. We could use a change.

Well, some folks can sit in a chocolate jacuzzi, sipping alchohol and splashing each other for perhaps hundreds of posts in a row. That's fine for them, and I hope they enjoy themselves. But to me, this sort of thing is mind-numbingly dull.

I like action and adventure. I like being on a spaceship. I like stories with plots, character interactions, and character development (I love Aprilise’s young sisters, for example). I do not like someone reshuffling reality on a whim, like we are with Alice in Wonderland where literally anything can happen next for no logical reason (“Oh, today, we all seem to have turned into badgers!”). I have worked very hard to catalog our threads, to establish a chronology and a coherency to our stories, and I do not like the idea of someone snapping their fingers and saying that the last 40 threads didn’t happen. Also, as much as possible, I want to keep our family together, at least until our second anniversary later this month.

In the past, we have been able to have both. There have been some who have sat around being silly (like at the resort on Black Diamond) and others who were in on the action (like those during the same thread who chased the FemaleReaver and first met the Yeti).

In the past, between more serious adventures, we have had times to relax, down times, such as when we landed among dandelions and had a pifflepony race. It has been a long time since we did such a thing, and I was planning on steering us toward that as soon as our shuttles had been recovered from Commerce. However, one problem that I remember having is that those who clamor for such down time tend to not bother posting anything when we get some down time. So soon enough a more action-oriented person starts the peril up again. If you want to relax and do silly things DO something, please.

SO, HERE IS MY PROPOSAL FOR THE NEXT THREAD:

The Sereni-Tree is still a starship in orbit over Garrison. In a VERY few posts, we collect our people and calmly make arrangements about who will stay with the Sereni-Tree and who will leave (perhaps on the Dagger). Nobody will have to scramble to make a decision, such as when Seryn barely got out in time on the Nandi.

After that, Sereni-Tree will make a hyperspace jump to Earth-That-Still-Is. During the time in hyperspace, we will hold the Second Gala Pageant, which I will leave to TWG and Cozen to coordinate. EXCEPT that I must insist that nobody be left out; both genders must be allowed to participate in some fashion. Perhaps we can finally hold our “bizarre clothing” competition. On the Sereni-Tree there will be no serious peril during this thread. Character interaction and development are encouraged.

And I’m sorry, but there is bound to be SOME angst during character develpment. The young orphans Shadow and Ghost must try to relate to their new home. TWG and SimonWho are still destined to be the parents of PsychicRiver and they might need to deal with that issue. Back when Jet was actually posting, she clearly had a strong devotion to TheGreyJedi. To have his special private quarters be given to someone else would cause a reaction.

For me, our characters must retain SOME sense of reality. I just can’t go to the place where our biggest concern is that our friendly fluffly white bunny with big floppy ears has misplaced his carrot. I cannot live among Smurfs!

During this next thread, exciting adventures can occur OFF the Sereni-Tree, as long as they are clearly labeled at their top. This would be much as we did during the “Boros” adventures. That way, folks who are interested in such adventures could read them and participate, and those who don’t care can skip them.

Now, by the end of the Second Gala Pageant thread, we will evaluate the situation again. If necessary, at that point we will split our crew. Some can stay with the Sereni-Tree and others with the Clubhouse, which will be relocated from our cargo bay to Earth-That-Still-Is. We can keep a dimensional portal open so that the two groups can mingle.

Also, I forsee a time when the Sereni-Tree will again be directly participating in adventures.

So, I put it to you, is this compromise acceptable to the majority of our people? It allows the action-oriented types to have adventures off the Sereni-Tree while keeping the mood of the Sereni-Tree itself light.

If you would like to make adjustments to these ideas, suggest them. It is possible that we cannot accommodate everyone, but I would like to try to keep most people.

And as far as I am concerned, everyone who has made contributions to this thread should have a voice. I don’t want a newer person thinking that their ideas or preferences do not count.

Jadehand suggested to me an idea that could be interesting. Something along the lines of the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling", where the episode was light (it was a musical) but there was a sinister force behind the singing and dancing.

Should we perhaps consider "Sereni-Tree, the Musical"? Where we all have to speak in rhyme?

See, this is why a) people are leaving the thread (and well before TWG posted anything) and b) we need to have a change. There's too much going on. I liked action and adventure but now there's umpteen ships doing umpteen different things in umpteen different places. All in one thread (albeit a vast continuating one). Even TRM's excellent summaries are becoming vaguer, mostly because there are some severe non-contiguous things going on.

To me, that's worse than living among Smurfs (*suspects TRM might be Gargamel in disguise*): if nothing makes any sense, then it carries no weight. There's loads of great writing here that is going to waste because the next guy thinks he's on a different ship or wants to shoot all the bad guys immediately.

I like the idea of the tree being a base point while other people launch separate threads for each adventure then return to base while we sip chocolate milkshakes underneath the mango tree.

There's no hostility here: all is love. I just want everyone to be able to continue to enjoy themselves.

He stands at the bar sipping on his fresh beverage as he notices sparky working diligently at the side of the common room.
