OOC: You may find it shocking that I have lately found that the peril too constant. So I can appreciate some down time where SR can be allowed to tinker, make moonshine, cook sourdough, homebrew, redecorate his new apartment, study Zen, practice Tai Chi, perhaps build a lot of book shelves and cumfy chairs thus creating a library/reading room in one of the quieter corners of the Tree. When SR first arrived he was all angst because he had been exposed to non-stop peril, hardship and woe for far too long. He's trying to get away from all that, but like Michael Correleone "Just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in!"

I really like the apartment I have visualized down in engineering, but I do not want a tenants comittee made up entirely of smurfs and clowns. Hobbits I can handle, smurfs are just not welcome. I tend towards a cooler more realistic approach, but not inhospitable.

As far as the angst issue. Well angst is sometimes a part of life. If you want a life without pain try heroin, otherwise there will always be some pain. Right now SR is dealing with Jett's issues. I'm not here to live in permanent angst. In fact I am hoping that the aforementioned domestic pursuits will bring SR back to an even keel. If the situation warrants me angsting then I will. I won't tell other people what they can and can not write here, it's not my place. By that same token it is not TWG's place to tell everyone else what to do. Personally I think she was out of line to make such a unilateral action, but what's done is done and now we are addressing the underlying issues that will hopefully make the Tree a place for all. I do respect TWG's reasons for taking action. It's important that be understood. There are people who are absent, Malicious and Ebo for example, that might feel more welcome in a more silly or festive environment and I would not wish them unwelcome.

If we separate the original clubhouse and only do adventures on the ship that's great. If I have to have my adventures on another thread entirely the so be it. I would still like to keep the apartment, but not at all costs, SR does have his dignity to think of.

Well that enough from the grumpy guy down in engineering.

“You’re not real, and this isn’t the time”
“I’m not real?” she asks shocked
“This isn’t the time!” he repeats, grabbing the turret scope and observing the terrain.
“No. Tell me now” she orders
Needy sighs before replying. “You’re a figment of my imagination, the result of my mind trying to cope with the situations I’ve found myself in. You only appear when I feel myself stressed out, or in some weird situation which, sad to say, has been pretty much all the time. That is why you have no answers for me.”
“I’ve told you the truth”
“You’ve told me my fears. You’re haunting me. But you haven’t the knowledge to even begin answering my questions. Only what I’m afraid of. I can’t handle pressure so you’ve pretty much gave me the worst news I possibly could have heard”
“It is the truth”
“Funny, that’s what a figment of my imagination determined to stress me out to the max would say. Coincidence?”
“I’ve told you the truth, I gave you back your life. I told you war was imminent”
“You said the battle for the ‘verse…”
“And what do you think this is?”
“This?” Needy raises his eyebrow and looks at Serenity-Form with a smile “This is just a bit of interference”
“That’s how it all starts”
Cozen turns around, certain that the boy whore was talking to himself. But as he eyes him, Needy merely smiles and turns back to the turret scope.

If this thread does do away with all the convoluted plots and perilous adventures, then I'll probably finish the story off in a fic for the blue sun room. I do actually have the story planned out in my head and thought it would be an interesting tale with plenty of twists, but I understand it would be selfish to tell a story which is predominantly all about my character in a thread which is essentially a "ensemble"

I've been considering leaving the Tree for a while now. I don't know if this will make me more likely to stay or leave. But one thing has been bugging me.

We are all fans of Firefly, right? So why is it that we can't have a little bit of fun, even in the darkest of peril? When the crew was being assaulted by Reavers, for example, there was the funny scene with Kaylee and Simon. Why must every post now be so gorram serious? Sure, it's perilous, but can't there be a laugh or two? Fall on your butt, make a witty remark or a pun?

I'll be honest, while there is some great writing on these threads, I'm not reading any of it. I barely even skim over everything; I just read the few posts a week that may pertain to me, and couldn't care less about what everyone else is doing. And it's obvious that I'm not the only one doing so.

So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to actually start reading everyone's posts. I may even try to join in on some of the action, but I sure as hell am going to have some fun with it.

I like you people, I honestly do, and I don't want to see any of you leave.

(ooc- Right, thats got my vote! Needy you are brilliant. Serenitree - Special Branch. That is just frickin brilliant.

I for one, would love to continue my Firefly-esque adventures, but definetly don't want to make TWG et al wade through my posts to get to their fun. Souls story sounds far too interesting to go unexplored, as does Safe's search for his brother.
As far as i'm concerned, Special Branch should be given a chance.

I'll even volunteer to do regular in-thread updates (so and so is here with such and such, etc.) As I tend to have few problems keeping tags of peoples whereabouts)

TRM, your comprimise idea is great, but it doesn't solve the basic problem of conflicting desires. As this place is so incredibly flexible in terms of options, I think an adventure thread should be given a chance.)

Seryn turns to Wisp. They exchange words, and she looks back towards the Dagger.
Then just to make sure she wasn't imagining things, she looks around again. She gulps.

OOC-i have to agree with every single post ive read on this. The angst threads can be a bit too angst and the random threads can be a bit too random so i think two intermingled threads at atime would keep everyone happy and (most importantly) keep the crew together. everyone can enjoy their thing at their time but if they fancy a change their just an intergalactic portal away. And their are some great characters and post on this thread.

Back in character- Wisp frantically scanned his laptop. Why was he here? He should be in his favourite pub toilet on ariel he just didnt understand. Something had drawn him here to this very point in time and space but what? He'd heard of these things happening but couldbt see why. He kindly got off the rabits and looked around. Could it be her? But isnt she married? Or Pregnant?

OOC: OK, I spoke a bit about this in chat, but since everyone wasn't there last night, I'll recap what I said. For those of you who have heard this, sorry for the repeat.

I love writing angst, I really do. I think I write angst well when I put my mind to it. But lately I've been coming to this thread and being literally exhausted by the amount of angst happening. I can't keep up.

Now we all know I'm a warrior elf. Hell, I got a kickass ring of fire, for Eru's sake. I like writing about battles, or saving someone, or having character development moments. But not ALL the time! Certainly we all like tragedy, but everyone needs laughter too.

And aren't we on a Firefly site? Perhaps we should look at what Joss does on his shows. Is it angst ALL THE TIME? No! There are amazingly light, humorous episodes in all his shows that still move the story along and still have character development. Think about Jaynestown, an episode I'm sure most of us adore: it's hilariously funny, yet there's still some action and poignant moments of character development. But it's not ALL angst or ALL action. And it's not ALL funny either.

We need a balance of angst and humor, and right now this thread doesn't have it. I don't think TWG meant that we'll never have angst again, it's just that we are way overdue for some down time. Personally, I haven't even been reading everyone's great ansgty posts because it's just too much, I'm oversaturated with it and I just can't be bothered anymore. Some down time would give me the chance to regroup, get to know some of these people (I've never met SR or Wisp or McQ for example), and then I'll be ready for action again.

People may correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think those of us who want some silly times want silly all the time. I think we all appreciate some adventure as well. But being able to having humor, friendship, comraderie while having those adventures is important.

Dividing the threads is not what I would want to do. I appreciate the difficulty in having multiple storylines, but we've been able to do this in the past. And if you all would take the time to read the past threads that TRM has so wonderfully preserved, you would notice that adventures were happening, angst was happening, battles were happening, but they were accented by periods of humor and fun. That's what I would like to see happen again. It would give us all a challenge to write beyond what we know or feel good at writing, would give us a better sense of community (which I feel is lacking recently), and would keep the thread and family together.

*shrugs* Just my two bits.

Edit: If we end up splitting the threads, I guarantee you I won't be able to participate in both. I have a hard enough time keeping up with only one thread.

"Could I talk to you for a moment?"

She nods and stands. Soul waits until her back is turned and throws a pie at Cozen. The pie, of course, misses Cozen and instead hits TWG in the face. Soul ducks behind Serenity and begs God for mercy.

The two of them find a quiet corner, and Soul sits down and explains everything to her, from Ciaran, to the man with the tattoo, to warring with his darkside, and finally about just how much Serenity really means to him. Then he tells her that he has to leave, if only for a while. He has to find the man and kill him, and end that chapter of his life. Serenity understands, and hugs him, holding him close. Finally Soul stands, and--

--Gets hit in the face with a pie from TWG.

Long post OOC: Being an original member of the club/treehouse, it's time for me to weigh in.

I agree with SimonWho.

While I love my 'TREE family here (and the writing has been fantastic), I was getting pretty tired of *constantly* being in some peril or another. There are so many stories going on, I can't keep up. It's just too confusing, which is just one reason I've not been posting much. I've found myself skipping over posts because they're just too much to read. The only times I got lost in the early days is because I couldn't find the thread (I didn't know where to find it. Now I know it's the Talk Story forum).

Back in the early days of the 'TREE, we had a pretty even mix of fun and adventure. Emphasis on adventure -- not so much of crew dying and getting kidnapped by the Alliance and Blue Sun corp, as much as exploring new worlds, building the things we needed to get around in the 'verse, interacting with each other, running into new and strange creatures, etc.

As threads moved on and more crew were added, it seems that the light, fun, aspect of the 'TREE was getting pushed aside. We'd have two or three posts of fun (not even enough time for everyone to have joined in), when suddenly we'd be in some huge fight to the death. I really liked the silly adventures, such as when we met the Yeti or when we had to leave Rukus because Rat destroyed the generator. There was a little bit of drama, but in a lighthearted way.

I don't dislike the drama, but too much is too much. Currently, I've got enough drama going on in my life to last a lifetime. I've been out of work for 6 months after being fired under suspicious circumstances. My umemployment is up and I'll have no income in just over a week. If it weren't for a friend of mine offering to let me live with them at the end of the month, I'd be homeless -- literally. So, you can see how getting together with my 'TREE friends for some fun would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use the diversion.

There is a happy medium which we had before, we just need to get it back.

I think there's plenty of room for there to be a "base" thread for the 'TREE, and for the offshoot adventures. The base set of threads can be dedicated to life on the 'TREE as we travel the 'verse -- be it for fun or character interactions and development -- then have offshoot adventures in different threads. Those who are on the adventures could stay in that thread until their story line is complete, then come back to the 'TREE for downtime.

Doing this would make things MUCH less confusing to read. If a character is done being silly, they can go off on an adventure and vice versa. And, best of all, it would be one continous thread that can be completed and easily tracked without a bunch of distractions in it.

That's my two cents -- back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Yay more OOC: Just a thought: I offer Ocean Cloud as a place for fun and shennanigans. We'll do the space folding thing inside and move in swimming pools of Jell-O, bars and billiards, and all of the other fun stuff. Those who want fun and silly and chocolate showers come aboard. We'll turn on the SEP and not be noticed, starting each of our posts with " On Ocean Cloud " so those who don't want to read can skip, then later complain that they can't keep up. We'll be free to come out and join the others if we feel the need, and if the serious minded folk need a break, they can contact us on the com and we'll let them in.

Do you expect me to be okay with you leaving me to have and raise a baby by myself while you're gone for goodness knows how long doing goodness knows what? What if you go and get yourself killed? Again?

I understand about having to face your past. I ran from mine and look what happened. I got kidnapped and killed a man.

But is it worth sacrificing your future?

SERYN

(Wisp, pardon me for taking liberties)

"hang on, what have you got there?

is that a laptop? what kind of antiquated..."

Seryn unbuckle her seat belt, turns and kneels on her seat, making a grab for the computer, "what is it doing..?"

she picks the laptop up, fingers pressing on buttons, Wisp yelps, grabbing for the thing himself. they struggle, back and forth like a bad comedy sketch, and Seryn is resisting the urge to bite his fingers when Wisp yelps and a sensation like being hit by really fluffy and incredibly heavy kittens engulfs them both.

When she comes to, she's standing up, but it takes her a while to work that out. She hot, very very hot, and suffocating. Leaning against something, yeilding but not soft, covered in fine springy..... OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN HERE!?!

Staring at her, mouth open shirt still unbuttoned and now plastered to his skin by the hot shower water running over them, is Wisp.

"War.. be... huh?"

"I don't know!"

She smell floral stuff, spies a row of bath products and a buch of clean towel.

"this is a girls bathroom! You *prod* are in the *prod* wrong place!" *prod*

Wisp covers up his chest where she keeps poking him with a shap finger and they both try to get out of the shower. Theres a struggle, and they both slip and slide about more than once. But eventuall they gain their freedom, and sit either ends of the room, rubbing at their hair with towels and glaring.

"Yikes, so it was all just a dream, but did we have to end up in the same shower?

Wisp look forlornly at his ruined pants. And she softens a bit.

"Shall we go get something to eat?"

I'd agree with you there Jake - I think that's a great idea. Having spin-off threads for differnet adventures, and then coming back to the Tree to relax. It might mean more "SereniTree and her spinoffs" threads, but at least it wont cause so mcuh confusion and multiple stories in the same thread

well that's the beauty of it, if you didn't want to take part in a certain adventure/mission, you could ignore it
Plus any threads would be temporary, they'd be like novel tie-ins to a series. The series is still going on, but occasionally you'd have an individual story

I think you misunderstand me. The beauty of Sereni-Tree to me is that there are several storylines going at the same time all in one place, and you have the opportunity to choose whether you'd like to be involved or not. But if we seperate every single adventure, it makes it much more difficult for someone to subtly influence or help out in a storyline because they have to make the effort to find the other thread, read all the posts there, and join up. I welcome the chance to be able to fight and read about others' backstories, but what I'm saying is if each fight and backstory had to be on a different thread, this would get way too complex and I wouldn't want to read each seperate thread. Sererate threads make it harder for all our stories to intertwine, which I find to be quite interesting and entertaining when it happens like it used to.

But if that's what you all want, go right ahread. I've only been on the Tree for 10 or 12 threads now, so perhaps I'm too new to know any better. All I know is, in my opinion seperate threads mean more hassles and less community than what we already have.

Also, JADE! How does it look? Cheesy? Nice? I'm so excited!

I see what you mean now.
See the way I figured it was a certain peril would be set up in Sereni-Tree folder, and then those that wanted to be invoved in it would go off to a spin-off thread to deal with it, then come back to SereniTree when it was handled. But I suppose it isnt as simple as that.
And you - a newby after 10-12 threads? I hang my head in shame. I've probably been here for 5

OOC: As a new poster I really can only comment on what I know there are people who have been here longer than me. And this is my opinions and thoughts on the current situation.

I love the serenitree. Yes the last few posts have been confusing and full of angst, and I have lost track of my two small characters more than once during this thread, but that doesn't stop me from posting when I can, and enjoying the communal fanfic writing we are accomplishing.

I don't know if I can write pure sillyness, or pure angst for long periods of time. My writing style is somewhere in between. Shadow and Ghost as characters have backgrounds that are not all sunshine and puppies and flowers, there will be angst when I write them just because of their backgrounds. But then again their backgrounds are not a main plotline. I'm not saying some lighthearted fun is necessarily bad. In fact it would be fun to give Shadow and Ghost a chance to be kids, but then again even given the chance Shadow will resist it and act like a little grownup. Ghost too to an extent.

I agree with TRM's idea. I think we should quickly wrap up the garrison plotline and take a breath, have some sillyness (with character angst, but that is unavoidable with realistic characters).

Now saying that I think I'll wait to introduce Shadow and Ghost's brother. Safe and I had been working to introduce him on garrison, however I can introduce him somehow later.

and I just realized how long, babblative, disjointed and self focused this post is.

School kept me very busy this semester, These threads, and the chat were some of the things that kept me sane. It is something fun and it got me back into writing.

I don't know what my characters futures will be after the crisis is over.

I hope it is resolved because I will miss the tree if it fades all together (or splinters so badly that it for all purposes is not the tree anymore). And I believe the community on this site would be damaged as well.

One of the best things about this community is the friendships and comraderie that we develop and the atmosphere.

Ok that's my 2 cents, my opinion, and my thoughts.
