Went to the gym today. I decided to mix it up a little bit and spent a full hour on the elliptical which was nice- I got into the routine and the hour just flew by. I burned very close to 500 calories. Afterwards I did a little bit of toning but not much compared to yesterday. I'll try to do more tomorrow- the gym was getting really busy and people kept getting on all the machines I wanted! Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well!

Opted for overtime and getting caight up on work rather than work out. Though i did walk with the dogs at their trotting pace -= 'bout 4 mph I reckon!
Tomorrow is joggin day again, still on the 90 sec walk/90sec run routine. Seem to be abpe to recover quicker so I think it's time I increade jog interval and decreased walk interval...Also weight training day! Let you know tomorrow how i fared doing both on same day!

Played hacky sack for a couple of hours while I was working.

Sometimes we're not very busy and we get incredibly bored.

JBW- that sounds awesome and I hope you keep it up!

I went to the gym today and did 55 minutes on the elliptical and 10 on the bike. I think I burned just over 450 calories which is good. I did maybe 20-30 minutes of weights/toning? I'm feeling pretty good- tired but good.

45 minutes at the gym and it felt amazing. I haven't been there in forever (it's actually been about a week, but seems longer). Got caught in a downpout on the way home and that was equally lovely.

Now I'm going to get a bit more workout in as I clean up from Friday's party.

DAMMIT, I'M AWESOME!

You get to play hackey sac at work?? That's pretty awesome!

Did my jog/walk routine for about 15 minutes then went directly to my weights class! Was pretty sweatyand warm...probably stinky too! Oh well, I didn't keel over so all is good! Sooner or later those additional pounds WILL come off! These last 10 pounds are gonna take forever!!

Weight wise I've been at a plateau for far too long. It's starting to piss me off.

As for hackey sack, we don't get to play it per se. We were just really really dead (i'm talking 1 customer ever 10 minutes or so), so we needed to entertain ourselves. We also played deli ball, which involves day old pastries and a broomstick.

I seriously love my job.

Hey all!

So I lied about my back--it's still injured, and let me know after my kickboxing workout was finished on Sunday. So last night I put some heat on it and it feels a bit better today. I was able to get in 3 pilates workouts from my DVD. The stretching felt good on my sore muscles. Tomorrow I might try walking a bit to see how my back likes it.

My "workout" today was helping my parents take down the stuff they put up for a garage sale they had over the weekend. Not much, but at least it's something.

So I'm officially sick and it sucks.

I was on my way to the gym this morning, despite said illness, only to discover that the act of breathing kind of hurt. So I cancelled my plan to workout at the gym.

Instead, today's "workout" walking a couple of miles and biking to/from work tonight. And whatever I manage to do at work be it hacky sack, deli ball, or actual work.

Went to the gym today- 20 minutes each on the elliptical, treadmill, and bike- burned about 330 calories I think. In between the treadmill and bike I did all the weights that I could fit in, which was actually a lot, so yay!

This thread seems to be at a bit of a standstill so let's get things going! Do you all have any food/diet tips? I've been trying really hard to watch what I eat but am still having trouble. Does anyone have any tips that work well for you that you'd like to share?

Hi all! I got in some lower body pilates today, a workout for hips and one for buns. Still being careful about my back, but I think I'll be fully healed soon.

Hmm...diet tips?

The USDA has a "My Pyramid Tracker" which helps you track your calories and exercise and relates it to the food pyramid's dietary guidelines. It's free and relatively user-friendly, and you can find it here: http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/default.htm

I don't ever diet. Keeping my favorite foods away from me would be silly, and I'd just crave them too much. But what I do do is not buy all the fatty foods that I love. Instead I buy fruits and veggies and healthy snacks. That way if I have a craving, I'd have to go out to get it--and most of the time I'm too lazy to go out so I'll just find a healthy snack and eat that instead. For example, I love love love chips, but I can't even tell you the last time I bought or ate any of them. Instead, I eat veggie sticks or sometimes triscuits. I buy a lot of frozen fruits and veggies so that I always have them handy, even when they might not be in season.

Also: I don't drink soda. Not even diet soda most of the time. I mostly drink water, herbal or decaffeinated teas, and sometimes skim milk or juice. But if you can't not drink soda, try to switch to diet. I used to hate diet soda, but now I find regular soda to be too sweet and actually prefer diet. I have a friend who switched from regular to diet soda and lost like 10 lbs!

Hope this is helpful! If I think of anything else, I'll post it.

My stepdad lost a ton of weight by cutting out by switching to diet and running every day.

www.fitday.com is a fun website for tracking food and exercise. I don't really diet though. I eat when I'm hungry and don't eat when I'm not hungry. I also tend to stress binge and thats bad. My "diets" in the past have been the strawberry diet in high school OR the can of chili/soup diet freshman year of college.

DON'T DO THEM!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!! They're unhealthy physically and psychologically and my metabolism has been destroyed as a result! I'm at present working on maintaining healthy eating habits.

But Kelly gave good tips: stock the house with healthy snacks instead of crappy ones. If you must have a cookie, limit yourself to one serving and not the entire box. I've also heard that portioning out treats that come in big bags and stuff into 1 serving baggies helps avoid eating too much of the junk food. Write down what you eat every night and you'll eventually notice patterns to your eating and then can consciously try to cut out mindless snacking and the like. Drink lots of water because sometimes we confuse dehydration signals with hunger signals. Tea is also yummy. I really love mint teas. And remember, liquid calories still count even though it isn't a solid. Eaten some protein at each meal can usually stave off hunger a bit longer. Also, multiple small meals is usually a better alternative to 2 or 3 big ones each day.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Okay, haven't posted in a few days, but I have been pretty swamped at work and home.

Been hitting the gym every day, Monday thru Friday. Weights & light cardio Mon, Wed, & Fridays. Heavy cardio on Tue & Thu.

Went last night and did 45 minutes on the weights. Put in another 45 minutes in cardio. Burned 450 calories. Dropped another two pounds since the last weigh in. Down to a total of 240 now. Goal weight is 210.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Breathing was less painful today so I opted for a short 30 minute workout at the gym. There will also be a few miles of walking because I have to run errands and go to my AOW scuba class!

Just had a bit of a workout myself. Once it warms up, I'm going to bring out the rollerblades

As for the diet thing, what I have done is slowly changed my diet. For instance, my current vice is between 1 and 3 cans of Pepsi a day. Still want to cut that down more though.

I'm a little foggy right now, so I stop before I start to ramble.

Hi all!

I just got 2 new dvds today! One is a "walk away the pounds" dvd which I'm sure you've heard of. I got the 4 mile walk and watched it. Seems fun and energetic.

And I also got a cool "AM and PM yoga for beginners." I just finished doing the PM and I feel nice and loose and relaxed. I think this will be a good thing for me to do before bed. I've been having problems sleeping recently, so perhaps this will help.

A.M. yoga is just as good as P.M. yoga! I feel all loose and relaxed yet strangely energized too.

....And I keep writing "yoda" instead of "yoga"

Did the gym again yesterday. A buddy of mine joined me. He got his membership same day as me over a year ago, but he has not been to the gym in a long while (about 5 months I think). We worked out together, which is a mite more fun then doing it alone.

20 minutes on the leg machines, then pulled an hour of intense cardio. Ok, intense for me. Burned over 600 calories though. Felt pretty beat when I got home though. Slept like a log too.

Scuba was a bust today. I've been feeling like crap lately and yesterday, my illness fully manifested itself as a sinus cold and an upper respiratory infection.

I tried to scuba, but couldn't clear my ears.

In the end, I snorkelled around a bit and spent the day hauling heavy scuba equipment around.

On an awesome note, I found out one of the people there today LOVES firefly/serenity!
