Continued from http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=11&t=18966&m=306422#306422

As the first of these threads approaches 200 posts, I've created a second to reduce load times and attempt to summerize some of the information released in the first thread.

Dragon*Con takes place in Atlanta, Georgia US on Sept 1-4. Current Firefly/Serenity Guests include Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, and Alan Tudyk. There is of course more time for others to sign up, and as always, there's the potential for some to have things come up that require them to back out. A complete list of guests from other potential Sci-Fi/Fantasy interests and details on the Convention can be found here: www.Dragoncon.org

Sept 1-4 is a Fri-Mon con. Many of us plan to file in on thursday to secure event passes and rooms and begin sharing our time and getting to know our fellow Browncoats. We aim to misbehave.

Current list of FFF members who have plans to attend, that mentioned such in the other thread:
MonkeyTail
XanderLHarris ASH!

I know there are a few others that plan to be there, but they didn't state such in the other thread.

If any of this is inaccurate or you want your name added to the list. Do it!

See you all there. Drinking will ensue.

Possibly me. I'm still trying to figure out logistics, but it's been a while since I impulsively flew across the country and I'm due.

I'm considering going- it all depends on what I'll have going on at the time. It is nice to see that so many browncoats are going. I know that if I do decide to go I will already have plenty of friends there to hang out with . So, fingers crossed, I'll see some of you there! I don't have the patience to weed through the other thread, so sorry if this has been discussed in detail, but are there any specific meeting times or locations for browncoats to get together?

There's always a Fan Table outside the Main Dealer room. It's a great place to meet others, and there may be a message board there if you're looking to meet with certain people or post potential gathering places/times. Oh, and there's always the Panels where our BDHs will speak. We'll all be there.

Sending out feelers here. I'm getting into town early Thursday to check in and secure the fan table. I will also be going to the GA Aquarium, 'cause I like big ol' aquariums. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining me.

If I book 15 or more tickets, the group rate would apply, which is about $21, plus or minus a small booking fee. (For the aquarium, not me)

Anyway, I was thinking late morning/early afternoon. Then head back to the hotels, help the new arrivals get their luggage squared away, and then food and drinks.

Thoughts?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Jadehand,

Looks like about 4 of the local Richmond, VA browncoats will be attending too, though they mostly post on the Prospero boards, not here.

Looking forward to the drinkin' & debauchery.

Hmm......

I would like to go Wickedwren, and I know the wife would love to, but we don't hit Atlanta until noon or 1pm. Then we get our luggage squared away and get our passes. We are normally not free until around 2 or 3 pm. Would that be too late for the trip?

I'm always up for hangin' w/ my browncoats and carousing.

Hopefully there will be plenty of both. I don't think I'll make the Aquarium, I'll need to be around the hotel to help get everyone checked in.

But its your holiday too so don't put yourself out.

Heh. It's okay. once I get in, I'm likely to want to hang out there anyway. And I don't want anyone in our 2 rooms to show up and not have a creepy, I mean friendly face to meet them. I know the area and show everyone around for the basics. A benefit of having a vetern D*C attendant in your group. You'll have a place to store stuff a relax a bit before we run of to get our badges and meals and first round of drinkage. Ok, that's not true, I'll have likely already had a couple of rounds.

I'll take lots of pictures of the fishies, so anyone that can't make it can pretend they were there. Although we will miss you...

That's why I'm leaning to earlyish afternoon to do it, so I can be around to help schlep bags, show people where to get badges (although it looks like they might have moved that back to the Hyatt this year-yeah!), stake out our awesome fantable space. Not as awesome as the 501st's space, but I'm not going to pick an argument with 300 Stormtroopers.

Ran the aquarium idea by the wife last night and she is all for it.

So, let me know how you want to work the tickets/money/cooridinating things and we are in.

I should be at the hotel by 2pm so that we can get everything squared away and stuff. D*C site says that the badges will be available at 4pm in the ballroom of the Hyatt this year. That is good for us because that is basically the International tower.

FYI - You will need reservations to go to the Aquarium - they are still doing timed entry to control the crowds. It's really incredible and worth the effort. If you are into art - the newly expanded High Museum is also a good place to visit while you're here.

And I love the High. I haven't been since the expansion, but it's on the list. Luckily I live close enough to day trip down. One of these days, I'm going to have to do another culture fest. Day at the High followed by an evening at the Alliance.

That's so sweet! Thanks!

We'll need lots of help with the table again. When we get closer to the con I'll put out the official call for table volunteers.

And the 501st can have the bottom of the escalator (I'm not sure I've ever written that word before) We have so many people, we'd block it and that wouldn't be fun. How's that for enthusiam?

Just now noticed your SE Browncoat link. I've known so many people who've been disappointed when they couldn't get in to the Aquarium b/c they didn't have an advance ticket. The Alliance is great and I don't know if you've seen the play Peachtree Battle, but if you are in the mood for comedy with witty dialogue - you may like this group's work. They have shows at the Ansley Park Playhouse and Peachtree Playhouse. Peachtree Battle is supposed to end July 30th - it's been held over for a couple years now I think, but the upcoming shows sound fun. Some of the humor is Atlanta specific, but much of it is more generally Southern.

Last year I packed up the car on monday morning, checked out, and went to the con. hung out there through several panels and such and was there til 4, when things wrapped up. then drove home. I'm staying til tues this year. much easier.

Schedules won't be confirmed until later. they don't have their guests yet. Arriving Thurs and picking up a schedule to plan the Con, is usually what I do.

I had heard from some friends that there were massive lines at the aquarium, if they didn't sell out. And when I recently checked the website, it says they are decreasing the amount of people they let in at a time. Which I think is actually pretty cool. If you're going to have to make reservations anyway, at least you know you're going to get to see something this way.

And I haven't checked that group out yet, but it definitely sounds like something I would like. The fact that it's been held over for that long just cracks me up. Thanks for the tip.

And to pretend like I'm on topic or something...I usually leave Monday afternoonish. I only have a 2 hour drive home though. So if you're much further away than that, you might want to consider staying Monday night. I think the con "officially" wraps up around 2 or 3 on Monday. (I might be a little off. I never stay for the big "thank you for coming" panel)

I had alrady planned to go the Aquarium, and going with other Browncoats would be even better.

I should be in town sometime Thursday morning, and plan to stay until Monday night or Tuesday (I live 1.5 hours away, so the drive is not bad at all).

I also lived in Atlanta for 6 years for school, I know a couple of good places for food and strong drink if they are needed.

This being my first Con ever, I will definitely be asking everyone a lot of questions, so if I am getting annoying, just smack me or something. Tell me about this fan table.

Also, just noticed the SoutheasternBrowncoats link, will check it out and join when I am home and capable of viewing the page.

I'll add you to the list. We're getting close to the group rate, which means we save like 3 bucks. But being broke, I'll take it...

And ask away, D*C was my first con way back when and boy was it overwhelming. I remember standing there with my mouth hanging open. Of course I was 14 at the time, so it was bit much. But yes, no questions are annoying

The fan table is basically where we have things to buy and grab for free. We have auctions for baskets and big, somewhat unique items. All the money we make from the table goes to charity, this year it's the Al Wooten Center and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

We also try and spread the word of Firefly/Serenity to anybody walking by. We'll have flyers to spread around the hotels, or to take home with you to spread the word in your community.

People also use it as a meeting spot. It's always there and manned for about 12 hours a day, so it's a good place to catch up with people. We'll also have a board to leave messages on and to announce panels, get togethers, and anything else that strikes our fancy.

If anyone has ideas for what they'd like to see at the table this year, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I aim to misbehave, I mean please.

I'm done blathering now

My too (that is if I go- should know within the next two weeks or so). Also, if I go, I'll be on my own- none of my friends would ever consider going to a con- I'm different:) Plus, I'm really shy so I'm hoping I won't get lost and I'll be able to find someone to help me navigate and such.

No problems, Seph. Just find the BC table and loiter a bit and you'll have more friends than you know what to do with. Really, it's that easy! Plus, since we know you'll be there, we'll be expecting you and can do girly *squeeeeeee*ing when we finally catch up with each other!

I barely knew a soul when I went last year, just a few people I met briefly at a screening in Charlotte, but I had a blast and made tons of friends. D*C is fantastic.

Oh, that's exciting! The girly squee sounds fun hehe. Alright, I must go devise a plan to get to GA- once I come up with one I'll let you know.

I think I saw something above about "how will we know each other"...correct me if I'm wrong. Most of us here know each other by our screen names...I am sure someone else has thought of this before, but would those sticker name-tags with our FFF screen names on them be a good idea? Again, this may have been done before, or already discussed, I am just typing out loud...don't mind me if I am stating the obvious!

Holding until you get back, Captain.

No, it's a good idea. Last year Hazufel(who is a JOY) made us all namebadges. I still have mine and will be wearing it, unless someone makes new and improved (though, can you improve upon perfection? They were really shiny name badges!) ones for this year. Trust me, you won't have any problems finding the Browncoats. Truuust me. The place was like a sea of orange hats last year.

Plus, those incredibly long lines for panels made nice opportunities to meet people.

Shiny!
It's not the finding of the Browncoats that would be a problem, it would have been matching faces to screen names for me.
I am just looking forward to meeting everyone I have chatted with here in person, and wanted to be sure there would have been a way to id ourselves. 'Cause, see, there will be so many Browncoats there that we will be hard to tell apart! (ok, maybe wishful thinking!)

Holding until you get back, Captain.

Hey I know! Tristan, whenever you're just standing or waiting around you should do your Irish jig, and that way I'll know who you are (and a few others who know what I'm talking about) I'll see you dancing and say to myself "that has to be Tristan! Who else would be doing an Irish jig in the middle of the room?" Ah, what a great plan...

Tristan,
When you pickup your badge you can have them put your Nickname on it. Many use their screennames. Also Fireflygal has shiny lanyards for holding said name badges, they say BROWNCOAT FIREFLY SERENITY all over them, makes us easy to spot. Jayne Hats also work. My yellow BROWNCOAT bag also useful. Blue Sun t-shirts, good bet that's a browncoat. There'll be an acre of us.
Fan Table is the place to meet people if you're completely lost.

I can't track who's in charge of the fan table - wickedwren, are you one of the folks? (Sorry, gang. Long, weird week, and relatives in town.)
