Well here we are, 3 months

I just did 1 set, and went rollerblading for over an hour. I think I'm going to pay for that. But, it feels good to get back into it

New comers, or people thinking of joining, can check out the below thread to get a description of what is going on here.

Well, it doesn't look like I'll get any gym time in today but I'm gonna try to do some basic toning exercises. Maybe get some sit-ups, squats, lunges and such in. Hope everyone else is doing well.

30 minutes on the elliptical and another 30 on the treadmill.

I just read through the original thread and had to laugh about how many people thought it was a good idea and how few followed through.

Or, you can be like me and skip the first 11 weeks and jump in now - like that lady that took the T for half the Boston marathon! (hee-hee!)

But it worked! I actually went running yesterday. Walked as much as ran and took it way slow, but I was out there for an hour. I was hoping that I kept it chill enough to avoid soreness, but no. It hurts to walk today!!

The best news though - about a quarter mile down this quiet little country road near my house, there's shiny smooth new pavement! Guess who's gonna be dusting off her rollerblades soon! I haven't had a good skate (off the ice) since I moved out of Boston, I'm so excited!

Awesome!!!!

I love rollerblading, but need to get new wheels. I kind of just want new rollerblades so now I'm waiting until the end of summer when they go on sale . . .

Good work!

Me too! It's why I quit running 10 years ago. Skating is funner, faster, and less shock on the joints. I've really missed it, but the only skating trail near me is like 20 minutes away on the interstate, and it's not well maintained. So what a find I've made!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Last week blew. Got to the gym on Tuesday and Wednesday, but couldn't go Thursday or Friday due to family coming in from out of town. *sighs*

Didn't do too much as it rained her most of the weekend.

Going to the gym tonight though.

YAY! Two months for me!

Forgot to check in yesterday, I did my pilates DVD.

I was going to swim today but over the weekend someone vandalized the pool so now it's closed. So I guess instead I'll do yoga or walking.

ETA: I did cardio walking for a mile. It's still 100 degrees outside at 6:30pm! sheesh! But at least I got something in.

Never heard of it. It sounds like a dark but funny take on honey, I shrunk the kids. Not so, huh?

OK, I've been walking on my toes all day because it makes my shins burn to flex my feet. I stretched a lot last night, but still so sore...

Hoping to try some ultimate frisbee tomorrow after work, if it's not too rainy. And if I can move my legs!

It's this show on TLC I think and they take families with really bad eating/health habits and give them 3-4 weeks to get it together. Each week they have 3 goals. They also take the kids and digitally age them to 40 years old to show the parents what the kids are like. It makes me sad inside because a lot of the kids just stay inside and watch TV ALL the time and they're pissed off because they can't have 3 twinkies for breakfast. The worst part is that they learned it from the parents.

Gah! I feel like my age group was the last one to play outside.

The best part about this whole thing is that I am feeling better, stronger & healthier. I am also getting a lot of compliments from people at work on the weight I have lost.

Did weights for 50 minutes last night. Put in 30 minutes on the cross trainer and another 30 minutes on the bike. Walked 3.25 miles on the trails.

Doing heavy cardio tonight.

Just got back from the gym. Spent 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 on the treadmill. It was fun, but I can't wait to back to Madison tomorrow morning and have my school gym and all the city bike trails at my disposal! Not to mention the lake should be getting warm enough to swim in soon.

Weighed myself and it's steady from last week, but I'm retaining water now which means I've probably lost some. So double yay!

Not really, more just got tired of being a lazy couch potato.

Really though my wife is constantly in the gym, working out, watching what she eats, etc. I felt I owe it to her to try to be in good shape since she works so hard at it, plus I owe it to my kids to try to set a good example. I owe it to myself too so I can be healthy and happy.

Okay- finally got around to finding out my measurements last night. The totals are only for the past two months (well, just over actually) b/c I was stupid and forgot to measure myself when we started this whole thing. So anyway:

total inches lost- 4, although I don't think this is right. when I measured myself the first time around I must have been wearing constricting clothing cause I know that I've lost more around my stomach area, but oh well.
total pounds lost- 10 but since my weight fluctuates so much this will most likely change soon.

So anyway, that's my report:)

Looks like there's some really good progress here! Congrats

Yesterday I woke up and was surprised by how little I was sore. But, then as the day progressed, so did the soreness. And today, although a bit better than last night, I'm still sore from the Mon extravaganza.

So, I'm taking the day off. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.

30 minutes at the gym. Sort of low key--I walked fast on the treadmill.

Finally went to the doctor about my persistant illness and found out some good news. My blood pressure has gone down more (not that it was high to begin) and my core body temperature is up to 97.8 degrees F now! The past few years it's been around 97.0-97.2. Maybe, just maybe, my metabolism is finally getting better. I think there's a link between core body temperature and metabolism, but I could be wrong.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Worked out on the cardio last night. 25 minutes on the elliptical, 20 on the stationary bike, 20 on the treadmill. Burned 365 calories. Hit the trails and put in 3 miles.

Walking at lunch today and going to the gym tonight.

well this is the first fit club post i have seen. i suppose i should read more posts. i myself am an avid cyclist. i average about 200-250 training miles a week at 21+ mph on my road bike. i also race a couple of times a month as well as mountain bike a couple of times a month. i like seeing other people who are or want to get into a shape other than an apple. if there is any other cyclists out there who want to share training tips or would like to hear any let me know. i am no pro but i will help however i can. i am sure everyone has noticed how hard it is to find time to get a good work out in but for the sake of your health make the time whenever and wherever you can. the old saying no pain no gain is true. with hard work and dedication maybe we can put together a lean mean browncoat army to march on FOX.

Sorry, but this is so very NOT true. Ask any professional and they'll tell you that if it's uncomfortable, or starts to hurt, then stop. The sort of thinking you're getting at leads to avoidable injury.

actually the saying no pain no gain is in fact true. i think it has been misinterpreted though. when i say pain i am refering to the burn you start to feel. you get this when you have reached you anaerobic threshold which is when lactic acid starts to reach the muscles. when you can push into and through that burn is when you achieve the most benefit. the reference to pain is not refering to joint or tendon pain or strained muscles. those are bad pains. i suppose to avoid confusion i should reference the burn rather than pain. regardless it looks as though everyone is working hard and that is what is important. keep up the good work everyone.

Thanks for the clarification Glad to have you!

Okay, I need to update my goals. I have met my goals from my first post back when this started (well, I don't actually have River's body quite yet but all the other goals are accomplished)
So...I would like to lose 7 pounds and get some muscle definition in my arms (what I've got now isn't much). Just enough to make it look like I work out and care about my body:)

As far as today goes- no exercise but I've been having a hard time with headaches lately so I wanted to take it easy plus I was busy all day. I plan on getting in some cardio and weights tomorrow so we'll see!

2 lbs could very easily be water weight. Don't fret too much about it.

Persephone-Excedrin is great for headaches. Unless it's a migraine, in which case I don't have an answer for you. Good work on reaching your first batch of goals.

After the gym this morning/early afternoon, I came home and packed up a couple of more boxes. Then I went for an hour long bike ride to the bookstore and back. Almost died on this busy street. Must remember to eventually buy a helmet.

WORKEROFEVIL

Well, I've been doing Tae Kwon Do 3 times a week (M, W, and F) for going on two years now. I've just started going to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays to try to work on more strength training. If I can somehow find the energy and willpower needed to start eating healthy I could actually end up being pretty toned. As of now, I eat way too much fast food so I'm still kind of soft in the belly area. Why does unhealthy food have to taste so darn good, huh? It's blatantly unfair, I tell you. Ah well. So that's my work out regimen. Tae Kwon Do classes Monday and Wednesday. Sparring class on Friday. Gym Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tae Kwon Do on the (very) occasional Saturday.

wight is relative. for instance i weigh myself every morning and i watch to see if my weight is in a range. my weight can be anywhere between 155-160lbs. very easily. this doesn't actually mean i have gained weight. there is alot than can cause your weight to bounce up and down. the best way to judge gains and loss is body fat percentage but for those of us who don't have those fancy things a good old tape measure works well too. i wouldn't measure your waste but rather things that are more consistant such as upper arms, thighs and chest. these are parts of your body that don't change based on what or when you have eaten or if you have digested everything.

ok here was my work out:

one hour 13 minutes on the road bike (outside)
1077 calories burned
average heart rate 158
24.5 miles ridden @ 20.5 mph

Did 45 minutes worth of weights last night, then 25 on the elliptical burning 275 calories. Did 20 minute on the bike for 175 calories. Then the wife and I went for a walk of two miles.

Probably won't be doing much tonight or this weekend as my wife has company coming in from Cali.

WorkerofEvil- Go read "Fast Food Nation" and you'll probably never want to eat fast food again. I've only read the introduction so far, but I already have a feeling that I'm going to be revolted. This is why I'm going to eat the biggest order of McDonald's fries I can find before I get to the chapter titled "why fries taste good". I'm almost afraid to ask.

As for my workout this morning, I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill. Might go for a bike ride this afternoon, but I really need to go to REI so who knows.

Hey that book sounds interesting. I don't eat fast food anyway but occassionally crave fries- maybe reading that will help:)

No exercise today. I am a bum. Someone kick me. No really, I was having major computer issues so I spent the bulk of the afternoon dealing with that and then I got a headache (so much stress!) so I decided to take it easy. I will go tomorrow though cause the gym is always dead on Saturdays so I'll have my choice of machines hopefully:)

So I just skipped to the fry chapter. Pre-1990 McDonald's fries tasted "good" because the frozen fries were fried in 7% cottonseed oil and 93% beef tallow, resulting in more saturated beef per ounce than a McDonald's hamburger. In 1990 they switched to vegetable oil, but now there is a conundrum over how to give the fries the characteristic taste. It was solved by using "natural flavor" additives. They are man-made chemicals and there is no legal obligation to say what's in them. Just need to be "generally safe".

I can't decide if the fries are vegetarian friendly or not. Just what is in the "natural" beefy flavor? The meat chapter is probably going to be nauseating.

Don't usually come in here, because... well, because I felt guilty for not taking care of myself. Understand, I lost 35 pounds five years ago, I looked great, I felt great. I know how good it feels to be physically fit. But over the past two years, I kind of fell apart. I've gained back every ounce, and then some.

I can't stand myself. SOOOOOOO!
I walked one mile every night this week, and did my basic weights stuff. (HAVE to get Buffy on DVD to work out to!)
I threw out the chocolate and the cheese and the butter. I was feeling confident.

But now! I'm hungry, I'm sore. I want a pizza and a mocha frappe.

HELP!!!!!!!! Inspire me! Please?

Good job on working out. I hope you permanently join up with the fit club. It's a pretty supportive group.

Get your mocha made with skim milk. Though better yet go for the the skim latte with sugar free vanilla (or hazelnut or anything sugar free). Chocolate isn't bad for you. In fact, if you can find the stuff that's over 65% cocoa, it's legitimately good for you. Obviously not as sweet as Hershey's, but I still think it's good. Eat a veggie pizza and no meat. Just 1 or 2 slices. You can indulge, just don't go all out crazy. I'm a big fan of homemade smoothies. I take some skim or vanilla soy milk, yogurt, and a bunch of fruit and mix it all up in a blender. Sometimes I add protein powder. It's pretty yummy and filling.

@Sigmanunki-I keep meaning to rent "Super Size Me". Maybe I'll do that tonight. Though I always forget the title and end up referring to it as "the fat mcdonald's movie". As for the cough: it's not so bad anymore, but if I breathe too deeply or laugh, I start hacking up a lung again. And I was starting to get stuffy and congested again, BUT went to the doctor and she hooked me up with some amoxicillin. I'm on my way to being healthy again! Then hopefully my endurance goes up. According to the breathing tests the doctor did, my lungs were working fine, but I could tell a difference in my endurance levels. On the elliptical I easily did 220-250 RPM (or whatever) and right now I'm down around 170-180. Grrrr.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Well, I started on my own in in June, don't ask me why. Then I came across this thread today ! What a stroke of luck !

I used to be an awesome cyclist, but since moving to So Cal I haven't biked at all. (The weather's nice, the roads aren't.) I miss being really fit. So some of my goals are to start a gentle exercise program that I can do every day.

But so far this week work has not cooperated, and since I work a 10 hour day, doing this before or after work is problematic. I'm still trying different schedules and approaches to see what I can count on day after day.

thats not fair that the roads suck where you are. i have wanted to go to cali for a while since they have some of the best routes. alot of top pros train in cali in the off season but i don't know exactly where. i live in IL so it is alot of windy flat land riding. i need some of the long climbs found out there or colorado. if you know any good cycling training tips pass em on or if you start riding and want any advice i can try and help out. i usually put on 200-250 training miles a week and race a couple of times a month. i just started racing this year and everything is such a long drive i can't hardly afford the gas to get to the races. well good luck and maybe we can help get you back into top form.

Went scuba diving today. It was awesome. Lots and lots and lots of fish. Spent 65 minutes lazily swimming around underwater.

Now I have to dash off to work. It's going to be crazy tonight!

Awesome! I have always wanted to go scuba diving- maybe one of these days...today I went to the gym and did 25 minutes on the elliptical (235 calories) and about 50 minutes on weights/toning stuff. I'm still being lazy- not quite sure why. Anyway, the diet is still going very well. I can't even remember the last time I had a hamburger or any fast food at all besides a few french fries the other day. Woohoo!
