Sorry about this, but I feel accomplished. I have finished my Browncoat. There's a picture of it in the Blue Sun room, along with another of the wife in her Kaylee outfit. (If seeing me in a browncoat won't get you to go see, I know a picture of the wife will )

I have a few more pictures uploaded to photobucket for those interested in seeinf more, and I actually took pictures while I was building it...just in case someone else wants to give it a go.

I've got a Browncoat!!!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

FABULOUS, Tristan! I'd comision you to make one for me if I didn't already have one. Yours looks closer to the original, though.
And your wife, of course, makes an adorable Kaylee. Though I can't remember Kaylee wearing a shirt that looked like tattoo sleeves...

Tristan! I just knew that you with your fancy metalwork skills would create such fancy buckles. Don't suppose you have any spare?! Maybe you could post me links to the making of photos. I'm gonna get onto improving m,y new browncoat any day now.

Emma, thank you! I actually made those buckles from a brass kickplate and a type of latch that I can't remember the name of right now...stupid Mondays! As far as making more, I have one or two sets of those latches left, but am going to try to find a more available type of latch. I'll PM you with the photobucket link and pass in a moment.

PR, it was seeing the wife in that tattoo shirt that first made me think of making her a Kaylee outfit. I am just glad it turned out well, and that she likes it!

Thank you, Penguin. But I know the wife is much prettier...that's why I built her costume first...to drag in the browncoats by having her beauty there and then say "oh, by the way, there's a picture of me in there, too". The old bait-and-switch!

Thank you, FMF! I looked at so many screencaps and promo pictures...tried to find one online, and finally gave up and made one. It's close, but not exact.

Thanks for the extra photos, they really made me grin. Just loved the action shots of you and the ones of your wife looking depressed in a Kaylee type way over a random bit of machinery!

Those close ups of the details of your spectacular coat will also come in very handy when sprucing up my own. Not that I'll do as good a job!

Honestly, since the unofficial replica coat costs $500 or more and isn't half as nice (it's the wrong colour, the sleeves ride up and the buckles aren't actually functioning they say) why don't you make some money by making a limited number of these shiny items? I guarentee that after people have seen yours at Dragoncon they'll all want one and will pay any amount of cashy money!

You and the Mrs are most definately going to be crowned King and Queen of the ball at that event. Wish I could be there!

I had thought of that, Emma, but I would have no idea about how to go about it. That coat is not based on any "official" pattern; I used screencaps, promo photos, and several other forums to come up with the final pattern. The leather side was about $100.00, and it took all of a week to build. I could seriously sell them for less than that $500.00 replica...and my buckles do work!

The wife and I always have fun with photo shoots. There are some shots that, as a costumer, I need to have...then we just start goofing off.
Thank you again!

Ok, Emma got me to thinking, which is a bad thing considering it's a Monday and all.
This coat was relatively easy to make and did not cost a fortune to do. The pattern is my own, influenced by watching Firefly and perusing this and other forums looking for coats for inspiration. I know a lot of people out there want a RL Browncoat...is there any interest in having one of mine? I would like feedback and hints regarding this, if y'all have the time.

Thank you!

I will start off by saying that the coat and costume look great. I definitely think that there will be a lot of poeple on this sight very interested in one of your coats. And, if you can go cheaper than the $500 the other place is charging, your chances are even better.

Simon: What if he(Mal) tells you to kill me?
Zoe: (without hesitation) I kill you.

Very shiny brown coat Tristan. Does it have a patch on the left triceps area?

You're gonna have a hard time drawing that hogleg with the strap still on the hammer though.

The more I get to know people the more I like my dogs.

Hardware, I thought about that strap as I was looking at the pictures...lucky I didn't need it! However, after taking the pictures, I did try drawing it without the hammer strap, and it works quite well. The slit goes up high enough that the jacket doesn't get in the way.
No, no patch yet...I am a bit too proud of the coat right now to go having people shoot at me...perhaps after a few events, I will, though!

Yay! When you're rich and famous I can point and say "I inspired him!"

Seriously, how much would you charge to make me a set of buckles for my coat. I'd very happily pay up to $35 for them (plus postage) if you'd ever have the time to make a set. It would MAKE my coat!

Emma, yes, you are an inspiration! Tell you what, rather than pay, let's go back to the barter system. I'll PM you. I have the time, but I need to find another type of latch to attach them to.

Sorry, zoned out for far too long with an Artemis Fowl book in a hot bubble bath! Now I've lost the whole evening when I should have been working!

I have many cool ideas for firefly related projects actually, although I'm not sure how many will actually work! I'll keep you all updated!
