Thank you!
I got to looking at them again, and I think the bottom part near the ankle might be a bit too narrow. They still fit me as is, but they are snug. I might end up cutting another spat to see if that would work better.
Seryn, I have to finish stitching the spat to the shoe, and find something to use as the insert to get the neat texture (on the outside part of the leg). That, and a bit of clean-up.

thank you penguin as well - i forgot to say, but the links didn't work on my pooter.

but, wow, they are pretty.

And yes, that necklace will be worn for other occaisons. I wear a lot of big chunky costume jewellry, (in sight for instance, is a necklace of beaded flowers, a one of massive chunky red and turquoise beads, and several pairs of earring way over the 4" mark in length. big jewellry!) And i already have one indian style neclace in silver filligree, which i wear to work a lot, and it never fails to get noticed.

You'll see all of it in september. I'm limiting shoes, but jewellry is small enough.

Serenity. I'm back (was under the weather today). Surprisingly, my ankles do fit into the boot as built, but it takes a bit to get my foot in there. I believe I am going to re-cut the spats so my foot, a sock, and some pant will fit in there.
On the lighter side, I got another Browncoat cut and ready to stitch!

Yes, please keep thinking I'm always nice and sweet.

I have a TIMS. A THORN IN MY SIDE. He drives me INSANE. He is rude, he is time consuming, he is belittling and morally superior. And he talks WAY TOO MUCH. I hate that.

I did him a big huge favour and instead of thanking me, he gets all (un)righteously indignant on me. I want to tell him where to go and how to get there, but I can't. I have to respond nicely. I just don't have it in me today. I just don't.

Anyway, this is steering in a Not Costumey Direction.

Okay, sorry I'm being all thread hijacky.

Seryn: Since I had to go to the post office anyway, I remailed you swatches (I included the underskirt and the overskirt just so you could see them.) I mailed it "global priority" which is supposed to take 4-6 business days so if you better get something in the mail by next Friday or both the United States Postal Service and the Royal Mail better watch out! Fear the wrath of Serenity!!!

And, secondly, if you happen to have extra jewelry for wearing with sarees that you want to bring with you to S3, I would not mind being dressed up like a dolly. I am so bad about jewelry. I don't wear earrinngs.

I just got you're emails.

You know for the life of me, i can't remember what it was for. Was it colour matching the binding? I'm very confused, it wasn't at the forefront of my mind and now its all mixed up in my head.

Whatever it is, don't worry about paying to send more - if the other turns up, thats great, if not, we shall do the colour matching thing with that site.

I got the red one - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&item=1400095403
84&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1#ebayphotohosting

except, i don't know what to do about postage, and it takes so long. Would it be possible to send it to you, and you just send on the blouse piece to me? (actually, if you do that special delivery thing, i'll pay you back, and you can send the swatch at the same time) I think that would be best, time wise, it just depends on whether you're willing to lug it to D*C with you.

As for binding etc, I was intending to go get it monday, when i get paid, so if it hasn't arrived, we'll discuss colours at the weekend.

Glad to hear you are better Tristan!

Well, I mailed you another swatch anyway. So, hopefully something will arrive.

By all means, send the saree to mee. (hee hee). I'll mail you the blouse piece, no probs. Is it coming unsewn and you have to sew it? Is that what it is?

We can still do colour swatches over the weekend if need be. Whatever's easiest for you. I just want my mail to get where it's supposed to. It's frustrating to pay for things that never show up, eh?

Oh, and it was for the binding on the corset. You were thinking of doing it in the colour to match the underskirt. A golden brownish colour.

Oye, it would be so much easier if we could all aparate and disapparate like in Harry Potter.

oh at this point i wouldn't even say no to the floo network!

Ok, cool. I'm thinking if its alright by you, I'll get it sent your way, and don't worry about sending anything on - i dug up my fabric collection and found some nice black material with which to whip up a top, so if we want to wear them at D*C, or if i don't have time on getting back, i've got that to wear with it.

(yes, as far as i can make out, it comes separately and unmade, which is good, as my belly is far from tanned and toned, so those tops they made up were all a wee bit short!)

Thank you so much, to mail it to me would have almost doubled its price, so you are a life saver (or a cat saver, my money this month has to go on taking kitty to a groomers, she's getting old and her fur gets matted, and she recently made friends with some plant which has left those little sticky burr things in her coat - to the nice lady with the trimmers will be terrorising her soon.

oh good, cause i wont.

Shindigging, for me, wherever possible, will be done shoeless - I have no truly comfy shoes, shoes and i just don't seem to be made for one another, so i have resolved to settle for slightly uncomfortable gorgeous bits of pretty. Which is fine for most of the day, but sadly i am one of those women who carries her shoes home.

Which makes me regret not putting the money asise for a pedicure...

arg!

The woman has just got back to me - she says on the normal postage, packages usually get there with in two weeks, as thats only a fiver more, i think i might risk it.

But i promise i will send you all the swatches of the fabric i can, plus any other purty fabric i can find.

And i'd send twirls, but in this weather i wouldn't want to risk it - but rest assured, i'm bringing as many as i can fit in my case to D*C with me, to say thank you for everything.

Grizwald - pretty pretty bangles! and i like the triple lacing bodices, very interesting idea.

hmmmm..... planning apres-con projects now...

Which reminds me serenity - do you want me to use the 'proper' corset lacing (its a flat cotton one a bit like a fine soft shoe lace) or do you want me to use this cord stuff i found the other day, that i thought you might like as it comes in this perfect shade of old gold to go with your braiding?

If it helps at all, The lacing is more 'authentic' but the gold coloured stuff is much much cheaper.

I didn't want to influence you with price though.

*whispers back*

no good, tried that, the heel is to low - i can't comfortably wear anything less than a 1-2 inch heel, and a lot of trainers seem to hold your heels lower than the balls, so after two minutes of walking anywhere i get bad pains in my calf muscles.

...why are we whispering?

I have no idea.

Lemme think about the lacing.

I was thinking that I'd probably end up covering the grommets. I have thread that matches the brown fabric so eventually the grommets will be brown. Wish you had that fabric sample so you could see if the brown and the gold cord would go together.

Weird that you can't wear trainers. You should try Danskos. Expensive shoes, but OH SO worth it. And they have heels. Some of 'em.

nope, thats fine, i'm hopefully ordering extra stuff, which reminds me i need to send off emails etc. So i'll add one in. I don't know if i should go for the cord (they had it in drk grey) or the laces.

problem is i'm not too sure how long the laces need to be. I mean id say 5yds is enough, but then.....

The other thing i had to ask you about is the inserts at the bottom (go back and look at the picture, and its the triangular peices holding the tabs down) If i get the size wrong on those its going to look awful. so we have options - i put them all in, and hope for the best, I make them separate, and we pin you in or try to sew them at the con, or i sew all but the front or back ones in, and leave or maybe lace the last ones, so they are adjustable.

To be honest, i can't think of any efficient way of sewing them in with the binding, so i think they were made separtae and sewn on anyway. so that might be the best bet.

Thye look fantastic tristan! If you were forcing me to be picky, i'd say that the seam joining the uppers is a little noticable, is there anything you can do to blend them a little more.

But now i will have made you notice a problem that doesn't exist and you'll hate me forever but its your own fault as you asked for comments on what was a bloody brilliant pair of boots!

They are very in keeping with the firefly aethetic, and the shape of them is great. Well done, you are going to look so good at D*C.

My own news is not so brilliant, but not dire either - sewing in the boning channels is taking forever, and they are not as neat as i had hoped they would be - fabric slip sliding everywhere. I'm learning from my mistakes - I went for a pretty shirting material to lines them. WILL NOT be doing that again, to mobile - it moved around everywhere, and now there are wrinkles. I'm really sorry! But its the inside at least, the outside is almost perfect, i just have to get neater!

But i decided to take a break, watched Bruce make friends with more eithiopians, and now i'm doing a little catching up, then going to bed.
Oh, heaven!

Thank you, Seryn! Hmm...the seam...I may be able to use shoe polish to blend the colors a bit more. Is that what you mean? I was unable to find brown waxed linen, so I had to use the white...and then I went over the stiches with a furniture touch-up pen.

And this may be blasphemy coming from a costumer, but have you thought of using the double-sided fusible interfacing to hold the pieces together while sewing them? It has helped me in the past when worknig on sleazy material that would not stay where it was supposed to...

Seryn: please! I'm sure it's going to look great! Who cares if there are a few wrinkles on the inside! No one but you and I will ever see them.

Also: I was thinking about those triangle pieces you were going on about earlier. I don't really know the answer to that, since I have so little experience. But, what I was thinking: Maybe you could just baste the pieces on, do your best estimate of how they would fit and then Thursday night I can try it on and we can make any necessary adjustments? I could help baste them on again if we needed to and then if you showed me what I needed to do to make them more permanent, I could sew them on proper like after the con. I'm probably going to sew those grommets like I did for Mai's too (Tristan's got me obsessed with grommets now!!! ) so it wouldn't be a big deal.

That's the best I got. Anyone else got any better ideas?
