VISIONARY

What's up kidlets,

This was posted at http://spoiledrotten.tvheaven.com/angel.html and was mostly dealing with Season 5 of Angel but there was one comment I thought you may all find of interest:

Select to view spoiler:

Firefly movie spoilers: Joss said he should know by the end of the year about if a Firefly movie will happen. He was asked for one word about the movie's plot and it was: Reevers.

Viva la Firefly!

This is interesting news. I always wondered why Reavers weren't mentioned after Bushwacked. I figure Fox didn't like them.

I'm not mistaken, am I? After Bushwacked, Reavers aren't even mentioned, are they?

*imagine Mal's facial expression when he first looks into Simon's Box, or when he first meets the "Mysterious" ambassador from "War Stories" followed by his trademark....*

"Huh."

Mal: “See how I'm not punching him? I think I've grown!”

I'm all done. Stick a fork in me. I read VISIONARY's post all the way to the bottom, and when I read his signature, I thought, "I don't remember writing this!"

I shouldn't be surprised if Joss has no intention of writing a movie about Reavers but couldn't resist the opportunity to throw out a curve.

TRAGICSTORY

Actually writting a movie on Reavers is pretty smart since that automatically gives you an antagonist with very little to no grey area. (Storm troopers, Borg, Arachnids) Which is always good for the mindless masses.

Secondly, it would answer that age old question "How does Mal know so gorramn much about reavers?"

Lastly, I REALLY hope there isn't nudity. I would really love to see certain cast members nekkid, but I feel it would detract from the movie. secondary people and extras can be as nekkid as needed, just not the crew.

What, not even Jayne?!

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

No, not even Jayne. I say this because I belive that that the movie industry in general has gone "pornographic" I would much rather male nudity, than female nudity, for the simple fact that it is more likly to further the plot than the obligatory "shower/sex scene" that we are exposed to. If nudity is part of the story I have no objection to it. IF in WS (War stories)Mal and Wash were nude for torture, no problem. But when nudity is done for the sole reason of FANSERVICE, then I hve a problem ESPECIALLY with a show as great as FF. I guess I don;t want to see FF nude because that would mean they had "sold out" (maybe) and I would rather have a show end on a high note than sell out to drag itsel along.

Hey, that works for me- Inara's a companion, and thus her nudity is part of the plot. Hell, she was all but(t) naked it the pilot, so it wouldn't exactly be selling out.

Easily the weirdest out-of-context thing I've read all day.

What about Zoe & Wash taking a shower?

Or Inara, during "a job"?

Mostly that "Mal and Wash naked for torture... that would be okay" bit.

That's, well, a mite odd, as they say.

TRAGICSTORY

Not that strange actually. Standard methods of torture begins with the subjects being naked. Clothes give you a sense of security. Being naked in front of strangeres makes most people uncomfortable and if I remember correctly, the guy hanging upside down in Train job was naked or close to it.

So Mal and Wash nude while being tortured is a legitamite reason for nudity.

Kaylee, Zoe, Inara, River and Saffron enjoying a stop at a hot springs resort (ALA Comic Party OVA) or deciding to play beach volleyball (ALA DoA) does not really have a plot point.

Same goes for changing clothes, taking showers or getting caught in the rain.

Inara working= no problem
Zoe and Wash= no problem
Mal and Inara= Looking forward to it

Reavers raping lots of young girls= no thanks.

Oh no, I get it. In all seriousness, I even get the point that nudity in service of the plot is okay, nudity which serves to neither illustrate a plot or character point does not. I just thought the quote, taken out of context, was hee-larious.

But then, torture is always a laugh riot.

I find it hard to believe any guy would say, "Please, don't show me nudity."

????

The shower scene in Starship Troopers was great. I don't think there's anything wrong with gratuitous nudity, I like it and it doesn't bother me at all.

Gimme some Firefly nudity! I want an R rated movie, hell ya.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against gratuitous nudity, but I would rather the FF movie did not win over fans because of River, Kaylee and Inara bathing each other.

Of course that would probably become my favorite scene very quickly.

What do you think about Mal in trash then,

I think it was intended more for comic relief than a plot point, but I think it was both well done and tastefull.

I agree with your points about the movie industry, but I haven't seen anything Joss wrote or directed that went that way.

Yet another reason why I thought Starship Troopers the movie sucked, while the book is a personal favorite.

Hey Gino,

I have never read the book Starship Troopers but I just bought it and I'm starting it tonight.

I bought a few Heinlein books because all of you guys talk about the guy.

Okay, let's talk for a minute about boobs, butts, and vaginas. I would imagine that the crew of Serenity saw each other naked all the time. I've spent my fair share of time in co-ed dorms and I know it is true.

During a job on a hot desert moon, the Serenity crew comes across a lake and they all go skinny dipping and have a water fight. I say, give me that scene with some butts and boobs. It's real, it shows how they bond, what's wrong with that?

Inara: Are you cold?

Jayne: Huh? Oh, uh, yeah, my little man's cold.

I hope you enjoy Starship Troopers, the first time I read it my Sergeant lent me his copy while we were sitting around during a field ex up in Wainwright.

Lots of women in the army, never saw a whole lot of boobs, butts, and vaginas. Well unintentionally anyway.

Nudity in a good movie is tough, the way it is usually done it takes away from the story, and the story is what I like the best. It could be done, just not in a gratuitous way.

Just an interesting note, when you get to the part about camp Arthur Currie, he was a WW1 Canadian General who lead the battle of Vimy Ridge. I spent alot of time posted to the base here in Calgary, Currie Barracks. Thought it was just a cool historical note, endeared the book to me even more.
