OK, so I paid my money and went to see Evanescence at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC Wednesday night. The show was pretty good (nice mix of old and new stuff) but what really irked me was that the band started playing at 10:00, played for all of 50 minutes, came back out for two encore songs, and the house lights were back up by 11:10. One hour and ten minutes start to finish. It was the shortest concert I've ever been to!

WTF? My kid's 4th grade violin recitals are longer than that!

yeah, i can understand why you're unhappy.

There wasn't even a support act to warm up?

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

Paul-

Glad to see you back. Haven't seen you on the threads for a while & was wondering how you are doing...

Sorry to hear about Evanescence. You were sooo loonking forward to seeing it. Such a bummer. But how beautiful was Amy in person???

I saw the Ramones at the old 9:30 club when I was a teeneager - shortest concert ever...they tried to play, were too drunk, so they climbed into the crowd (remember that really small stage!)and drank / mingled with the crowd for an hour or so!

I've been meaning to ask you...Did you know Summer Glau will be at a Con in Hunt Valley, MD in February???

Yeah, there was, but I wasn't there to see the warm up act - I was there to see Evanescence.

*sigh* She was as beautiful and captivating in person as she appears to be in her videos. I keep telling Tina that Amy Lee is the only woman I'd leave her for, but Tina knows I'm just kidding. There are lots of women I'd leave her for...

Ouch! That is a short show. When I saw them a couple years back, it was about the same though. However, they didn't have as many songs to play, they did do a pretty shiny cover of "Zero" by Smashing Pumpkins though. And Amy spit on me, it was great!

Look under guests to see Summer... also, Keith RA de Candido (he posts on fff.net under the name KRAD) will be there.

Unfortunately, it looks pretty small, and Summer is really the only "Name" actor/actress that will be there.

Shortest concert I've been to?

About three years back I went to Metallica's Summer Sanitarium in Chicago. All was well and good. I moshed to Mudvayne, who I don't even like, went to grab some lemonade when The Deftones played, and pogoed to Linkin Park.

Next came Limp Bizkit. For some reason, the citizens of Chi-Town hate them even more than other people, because as soon as the band (and I use that term lightly) came on stage, the crowd started booing, and throwing stuff. And Fred Durst, being the ass that he is, was like "Yeah, throw stuff at me!" They were supposed to play for about an hour, but only got through a handful of songs before Durst walked offstage, mad as hell.

Of course, I didn't mind, because it was only Limp Biskit.

Later when Metallica came on, they named all of the different bands that opened for them. And each of them got a fair amount of love from the crowd, but when they mentioned Limp Bizkit, they might as well have asked how we felt about Hitler. I was about 15 feet from the stage, and I could see the expression on Kirk Hammett's face, saying "Oh, come on, they're not that bad."

It became a well-publicized little tantrum.

Here's the article from MTV.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

When I saw them on their last tour (don't get to see them coming up *bangs head against wall*) there were two terrible opening acts and one decent one and then they came out and played for maybe an hour and a half. My brain was getting fuzzy by then so I'm not sure.
And yes, Amy is magic to see on stage. I think she's far more captivating in person than on screen. The way she moves, and hearing her sing in real life... Oh.
Did you get to meet her after the show? I think getting to hug Amy Lee is in my top two 'high points of my existance'.

Nope. Unfortunately the court order is still in effect and I must stay 50 yards away from her at all times (just kidding!).

While the roadies packed up the equipment she was wisked away in a limo to an undisclosed location before we could even get out of the building. *sigh* Getting to hug her is near the top of my list too.

If I remember correctly the 9:30 club always has acts that are about 50 to 65 minutes long. It is their standard set, or was back in the day when I saw SuperTramp, the Ramones, UB40, Evanescence, REM, Scandal and a few others there.

Mav- were we there at the same time? LOL

Shortest one I've been to was by Queen Adreena ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Adreena), only about half an hour, no encore. But it worked in a short-sharp-shock kind of a way. Katie Jayne Garside pretty much goes insane on stage.
