Pulling is slang for that act of going out expressly to find someone (or even something) to rub yourself against.

You can be so wonderfull at time SR, thank you! All of you are marvellous, but lets at least call a spade a spade.

I could cope with that if I actually was a nice guy. I mean, I can and often am nice but a nice guy? Not really.

Someone managed to give me the perfect generic compliment that doesn't feel generic. If you have nothing else to go on, compliment their eyes. Works for nearly everyone and really works.

Or just haven't bothered to actually pay attention to any of your shared experiences - Like you, i'm capable of niceness, but i'm far from a nice person I moan endlessly, bitch frequently and i have a very evil wit - i'm not a nice girl.

Seriously, your mum would hate me.

plus there that whole vague thing about nice - its bland, shallow, some one calling you nice ignores of devalues every other deeper personality trait you have.

Aw Sean! What makes you think you don't have a chance?

No, sorry, I won't tease.

Sadly, you and everyone here fell victim to the ability to turn the old hormones off and deliberatly not fancy people who i want to value more as friends.

Plus - i've already shared a room with you - the mystery is gone... *sigh*

How do you just turn off hormones? That would be an immensely useful ability (though i tend to manage just fine)

I honestly don't know - ever since high school, if i decided i wasn't going to fancy someone for what ever reason i just stopped.

It come in handy along side the 'no fooling with workmates or brothers of friends' rule.

Cause some of my friends have really cute brothers.

I do allow myself crushes for entertainment - like on on a guy who works in entymology - 'cept i managed to embarrase myself the other day, had a coughing fit which i'd just got over when he walked past to go for lunch, and he smiled and said hello, and i sort of, gravelly voiced, 'purred' hello back at him.

He didn't notice anything amiss, but if i ever have to talk to him again i'm going to have to talk like that the whole time, just so he doesn't think i'm a total goof.

My workmates are highly amused. They keep making funny faces when ever he goes past.

Ha ha!

LMD - if you want those dvd's you are more than welcom to them - you did call first dibs anyway!

*sigh* Sean, stop exaggerating and being so very negative.

I'm sorry, but you've left me no choice. You have to list three POSITIVE things about your physical appearance. And make them GOOD, because if Seryn and I don't think you're trying hard enough, we'll make you do over until we're satisfied. We're very mean. (Right, Seryn?)

I will NOT allow such negative thinking on these threads. I will NOT! *stamps foot* Every one of you is a wonderful and attractive male type person who any woman with any amount of sense would be happy to be with.

Except Seryn, because she's somehow magically turned off her hormones.

And, I'm going on speculation with SR, since I've never actually seen his picture.

Sean, all you really need is just a bit of self-confidence. And, a nice, pretty, evenly spaced list.

The one thing guys have to do that some of us find incredibly hard is to ask girls out and risk falling flat on our faces. But it has to be done and yes, we will fall flat on our faces from time to time.

People get far too concerned about their own looks but it's more about perceived desirability. If you talk to them and are convinced they will go out with you, they almost certainly will. If you act in a manner that suggests you're convinced they won't, they almost certainly won't.

There's loads of guides out there for tricks and suggestions on flirting and how to make a woman interested in you. You've just got to be prepared to have them turn you down. Which would be their loss. It doesn't matter if 9 say "no" if the tenth says "yes".

Yes everyone's been turned down, but everyone's been turned, erm, up, as well, except me. I'm not stupid I can evaluate evidence when it's placed before me. Everything points one way and one way only, and that's where I'm at.

I've looked at the available data without bias as much as such a thing is humanly possible, I didn't have preconcieved notions that I wanted the data to fit, I didn't and I don't want the data to tell me that no Woman is or could be interested in me, but that is the case no matter how you cut or contrive the reality.

I could take it on faith that "there's someone out there for everyone" but that doesn't fit the available data, there's plenty of people who live alone their entire lives. Where's the someone for them? What makes me so special that I should be any different to those people? And to be frank what the hell is wrong with someone that they would be 'incomplete' without me.

I could take it on faith that "I haven't met the right woman yet" but there's no reason to assume that either. I can't take it on faith when it contradicts what I see.

And as for the list, I can't think of one, let alone three things.

You've got a full head of hair, a body in very good shape and a great smile (which works well with your laugh).

Or, to ignore the superficial, you've got a good job, you're creative and see projects through (as those CGI creations plus the work at Still Flying prove) and you're generous in times, spirit and resources with those around you. And you have a brain.

However, my guess is you're too hung up on how you think others see you (in purely aesthetic terms) so what I would suggest is you do some internet dating. It's a great way to practice flirting, courtship, making forward advances, etc, etc without the pressure of doing it face to face. Plus you might just meet someone special out there.

Just think of us as those annoying guys in Swingers, pushing Jon Favreau to Heather Graham. You are that guy with big claws and she's a helpless rabbit...

This is very true. I'm done with the negative, the self loathing should have died with my father who nurtured it within me. Him leveling a gun at me didn't help. Me looking him in the eye and walking into it did. I'm not much of a man, but I'm already more of one than he was.... forward.
Now..... where do I find these women with any amount of sense?

Ah, so it's not just me that thought all the ladies were more interested in Sean than anyone else. Wow, if half the things he believes about himself were true, and I'm so much worse... wow.
Right, positive.
Sean, I'm a god, and obviously you're more appealing than that. It's sad that so many you've encountered left you feeling low. But in honesty, that's more a commentary on their poor quality. It doesn't bring you down. It shouldn't. Rise up with me, I've been down there for many more years than you, Trust me, I've explored the depths thoughoughly.... there's nothing down there worth your time. No matter how much you want there to be.
*points up*

Ok, I find wonky noses and really thick crunchy Yorkshire accents inexplicably sexy.
Theres absolutely no rhyme nor reason to what attracts women.
Or me anyway.
Des is attractive, and the prospect of naked Des is intriguing, but when it comes to lost, i'm still all Sawyers - i just don't like the way Des speaks to people, what is it he calls everyone all the time? brother?

Sean, all that stuff about data is rubbish - 'data' bears no relevence to the total chaos that is the real world, if thats even what you are going on about.

Stuart is right - you have all those atributes, plus. Your issue is you are so hung up on the negative its all you think you have.

Honestly, ok, I'm fat, so fat that i see complete strangers sniggering about me everyday But, I also know that i'm pretty, talented, above average intelligent, funny, warm hearted and great to hang around with.
With all that, i'm not sure i give a shit that i don't conform looks wise, i'm fine as i am, and you said yourself not so long ago, that if it were an option, you'd be interested.

So how do you reason that someone who is laughed at in the street like a sideshow freak is can also be attractive enough to find someone, and yet you - like somebody said, able bodied, talented and with an apparently magnetic personality, will not?

It doesn't work like that. There's hundreds out there that will gel with you happily enough for you to bump along through life together (or, if you are that way inclined, fall madly in love with you)for however long, and you'll be perfectly happy.

Theres billions of folks on this planet, and just by being here you're giving yourself access to more of them than most people have.

oh, enough of this piffle.

Sean stop being such an arse. POSITIVE THINKING!

LMD - you don't give yourself enough credit either - you hung around on the fringes slightly because thats where you put yourself - honestly, for the first day or two i wasn't sure if you weren't a mute. You just have to get involved more.

Do what i do! blather incessently at people!

ER, actually don't do that, i'm trying to stop those tendencys.

Stuart's right. You've got a great smile! You need to smile more often, and at more pretty girls.

The power here keeps winking. It needs to either stop, or just cut out all together so I can't do my work and can go home.

This is what I meant about preconcieved ideas, it's easy:
What we know is that you have had Boyfriends and dates in the past, ergo we know you attract other people.

I have not had a girlfriend nor what in any real sense can be considered a date, everytime I've liked someone they haven't been the remotest bit interested.

Even if you've managed to convince yourself.

And thats the last i'm going to say on the subject.

As for what SR looks like, he did describe himself when we were discussing plots for the tree - its in an email, I will hunt it down.

But it doesn't matter what he says, for some inexplicable reason he's permenatly etched in my mind as a Scruffy Clint Eastwood type, outlined in the door way.

Damn, I thought I was bad.
Sean, I'm much older and still alone myself. Most of the women I've known that I was attracted to, which hasn't been many, have either laughed or given the friend speach. It wasn't right at the time. My timing is always off. Some of them are worth waiting a bit for to see if things work out, others.... not so much. And sometimes you see their perspective and accept the friend thing. I have learned that everytime something failed to work, that I learned something from it that would help me in the future. Maybe you're just not ready for a relationship right now. Maybe you have more to learn. I hope you learn it quickly. But the fact is, you don't have to be in a relationship, it's not required. However, not being in one, is NOT a negative comentary on you.
My life is too busy for a relationship right now. I'd barely be able to talk to them twice a week, let alone have time to be with them. And no woman would get overly excited about that, even if I looked like Nathan, Which... not so much. Sounds like you have a busy life too, and as much as we may want someone to share our hectic life.... *shrug*

"But you sleep like a ghost with me
It's as simple as that
So tell me I'm mad
Roll me up and breathe me in
Come to my madness
My opium den
Come to my madness
Make sense of it again."

LMD - you don't give yourself enough credit either - you hung around on the fringes slightly because thats where you put yourself - honestly, for the first day or two i wasn't sure if you weren't a mute. You just have to get involved more.

eh, maybe i don't give myself enough credit, or maybe i'm afraid of giving myself more credit than i desrve...either way, i understand exactly what you're saying. I've always been something of a wallflower when it comes to such things...I need to be invited in before I feel I've the right. I never know how to act when other people are around. I always feel like I'm doing it wrongly. Also, I'm lazy ;D

hey, I know us. We've known for far too long we were superior. Those beneath us knew it too, and tried to bring us down. There's a lot of them, and their many voices sometimes drowned out our own. and we foolishly listened. Stand up. Look down on them. Crush them beneath you where they belong. Own them.
Oh sorry, bit carried away there.... or not.

So, most, not all right.

Just checking.

Nope, Citizen got you beat!

I totally apologise for lecturing you a while back.

But see, look - i'm now on at Sean to stop being a Narky Knickers, so alls fair.

As for the 'i'm fat' rebuttal, LMD, don't worry, or whatever - it's not an issue, just a fact, according to all those doctor type tests i'm overwieght.

But who give a squirrals nuts? I don't like doctors (Simon excepted!) and they talk crap most of the time anyway.

And you need to stop being a wall flower! I to have all those feelings that i need to be invited before i join in - Well as of now YOU"RE ALL INVITED!!!

So we'll have no more wall hugging from anybody!

So says me, so you must all obey!
