I was just wondering if any of my fellow Browncoats have odd hobbies (For instance I collect depression glass bottles). So list your quirky, strange, and downright odd hobbies here.

What do you make of the nylon dot cardigan and plastic mule rest?

I have a fifties house, so I started collecting printed mid century tablecloths, funky mid century ashtrays, and I have a forest of aluminum Christmas trees.

Actually we're at some of the highest numbers of licensed hams ever, around 600,000 in the us. It just isn't as high profile as it used to be.

What with morse code requirements being lifted on the entry level license (and soon to be lifted for *all* licenses) it's really easy to get into the hobby these days....

Now I am learning about scary.

This is not my hobby but a few weekends ago I spent Saturday morning wading in a river and plucking mussels out of the depths (as well as several slimy rocks). I was with an Audubon group and a man from the Dept. of Wildlife & Parks; we found over 200 mussels! Not something I'd ever done before but kind of fun. And it makes a good story.

I bead as well, but have not graduated to actually making my own beads yet. I may try some polymer clay beads at some point; I think I trust myself with a toaster oven, but a blowtorch...?? I'm thinkin' bad idea!

Depends on what you consider odd. Most of my hobbies would be considered odd to the majority of people...

I watch and read a lot of science fiction
I, on occasion, participate in roleplaying games of various types
I read comics
I create Livejournal icons.

But I don't think any of those are particularly odd among Firefly fans.

I write. But that's not really a hobbit... er hobbie. I also make desktop wallpapers. Firefly ones are posted here. But I'm on a U2 groove lately. I like collecting things. I have every single Lord of the Rings and Narnia bookmark from Antioch. Over 60. T-shirts. I have nearly every official Firefly shirt and a LOTR one or two and many U2 ones... Flash, Batman, etc.

So that's me. Writing, wallpapering, bookmarks and shirts.

TRAVELER

I am one of those people that jump from one hobbie to the next. So these are the ones that I have been most devoted to.

I am very proud of the porcelain dolls I have made. The head and arms are cast soft in a mold and you have to clean and smooth the surfaces before the are fired. Then you have to tint them a flesh color and paint their faces. Getting the eyebrows to match is nearly impossible. The instructor made redo them over and over again. You have a choice of using glass eyes or painting your own. I have done both. Because I do not know how to sew I payed someone to make their clothes. I finally stopped because I have run out of room for them. I have given some away as Christmas presents, but there are only so many people who would appreciate one.

My longest and most permanent hobby is historical wargaming. I have thousands of one inch tall minitures made of lead representing the Civil War, the Neopoleonic Wars, the American Revolution, and a ancient Greek army. Just like the dolls they are painstaking to paint, but when you see 100's of your dark blue Union Infantry crossing the battlefield you can't help but feel proud of your work.

I used to grow my own smoke, but then I got older and got a respectable job and the two don't really go together. If the economy fails like I'm sure it will and we all fend for ourselves, look for me. I'll be the guy in Montana with a pot farm and I'll trade ya for good eats and good conversation. Don't think about stealin' any though. Somebody like me has already planed for theives.

Now I just play guitar. I thought it was more legal than growing smoke, but now they're shutting down all of my guitar tab sites and calling me a pirate. Makes me feel even more like a Browncoat. Everything that I enjoy doing is illegal.... well, almost everything.

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

I used to swing dance a lot which was great fun. But the people we went with kinda thinned out so it got less and less enjoyable. Then there is always my collection of interesting erasers. No, I am not off my rocker, I have a lot of really cool erasers that are shaped like cool things. I started collecting them when I was very young and it just became almost a habbit. Also a lot of my friends and family know about it so they kinda feed the habbit.

I've a weird tendency when I'm bored to study random things. I used to just read tons of reference or historical books but now wikipedia has taken over. I once spent hours reading everything on the game series half life. I've never played any of them and don't really have any intention to I was just reading. I never can apply this tendency to anything I'm meant to be studying though
