I'll start! Because I can!
This is me looking totally confused

Huh?

And sort of inquiring/mildly confused. Possibly a Zoolander shot, though...

For better pictures of me (i.e. smiling!) check past threads.

I like the confused shots PR, and the black getup in the last one looks damn good (not that the Blue Sun shirt isn't sexy, but there is just somethin' about a woman in black).

Hehe, thanks, RIMG. Did you see all the ones of the same outfit in the last thread?
Okay, you mentioned how tall you were, so that lovely lady with you must be rather Amazonian to come up to your shoulder! Shiny Disneyworld pic, too. I so wanted to pull that sword out...
Ok, I'm posting another one because I've gone a little camera-happy. This is my switchblade. It is not a playful knife, not pretty and polished, not meant to be anything but intimidating. It makes a very satisfying noise when it's opened, too

And yeah, the only thing that keeps this knife somewhat legal is the fact that while it's possible to open it with one hand, it can't be closed with one hand. Also it never leaves my house. It's a collector's piece and nothing more.

Oh how I would like too. .410 and 10/22 found a new home behind the seat of Ginny. Tame weapons to carry for defense and all, but useful none the less. Dang rabbits is vicious this time a year.

As for CMH's pic, they cross train quite a bit with various weapons. I'd much rather take the AK if deploying abroad. More accessible parts and ammo worldwide.

18B's are trained with foreign and domestic weaponry, and eventually, all 18 series cross train in it. On deployment, long hairs are also advantageously given choice of their own firearms. Standard issue just doesn't cut it.

Ah! Ok, that makes sense. I had no idea we cross-trained with other weapons...but it does make sense...I should have thought of that...
Thanks, you two, for clearing that up.

CMH, will you be going back into 18B?

I was actually 18C myself, but no, it looks like I'm not ever going to qualify for SF again. :( It's a shame at my age to be told that you're simply never going to be able to do what you wanted for a living again, but I guess people come to the conclusion on their own every day. It was just... disheartening having it said to me.

Anyways, I still have to wait for my packet to come back approved. I've had my psychiatric waiver for a while now, but I had to go in and take the physical before we sent it out, because it all has to be together as one packet. The whole thing got sent out last Friday, and I'm hoping it'll only be two weeks before I get a response back. As soon as that happens, I'll know what I'm eligible for, but I'm looking at either cavalry or combat engineering.

18C..hang on...let me look that up...SO Engineering...would that have to do with demolitions and construction? Still sounds like a good job. I had a friend who was, I think, a Combat Engineer. He was over there when they got Saddam...I think he's in Germany now; I have not been in touch with him in a long while, though.

My hopes are with you for getting what you want.

Tristan- I see the SKS has the Ramline? folder. We used to have some other stock on ours but the length of pull was way too long. Now we have the original wood with a rubber bumper at the end of the grip area. Much better than before. LOVE the Springfield. Reminds me, I gotta link ya still on the repro's.

NVG, yep. The original wood stock was not comfortable at all, even with the extended bumper on it...so, I found this one for a good price, and I have been happy with it. It's just the right size, though I had to put foam on the arm for my face...had a tendency to leave marks.
Yes, I am quite proud of that Springfield. It falls outside the range of those carried by the 7th under Custer, but only by about three years.
Eagerly awaiting that link!

Tristan - You have a fine taste in weapons, sir. I'm actually fairly limited in my knowledge of rustic firearms, but I am liking the SKS, and the British SMLE. Is that a Mark III/1916?

But yeah, 18C is engineering. I know how to make Potassium Nitrate out of some dirt, water, and whiskey. Not that it's any good on it's own, but I don't think I should go any further on the internet:) Lots of other neat dem/con tricks with not a whole lot of civilian applications.

Can I just say that I get some kinda vicarious enjoyment out of seeing Summer Glau's character on "The Unit" date a military spec-ops soldier? It's almost like, "Hey, maybe..."

Yeah, maybe... I just shouldn't kid myself, maybe I should just go and find something to hit like I always do. ANGST!

Hell's Kitten - Glad you like the photo. You got a nice dress there, reminds me of a phoenix or something. I've wanted to dress up like a character from the Verse', but I'd feel embarrassed. Yeah, me, the guy wearing jammies in his signature pic....

Also, the color blond poisons the brain. Unless it's your natural hair color, I'd switch back to red... I bet that sounds a lot more offensive than I meant it to.

CMH, thanks! I should have said what they were, eh?
You were right about the Enfield. That is one impressive weapon, by the way. If you have a chance to fire one, go for it.
Um, left to right:
Chinese SKS early to mid '60's (I think)
1916 Enfield
1967 Canadian Centennial Winchester
1873 Springfield Carbine
1890's Stevens .32 rimfire.
I have a fetish for old firearms...if I can find all the pistol photos, I'll post those, too.

18C does not sound too bad. And no, I don't want you to go any further with those descriptions!

Oooo, more pretty pics and shiny weapons, what more could a girl ask for?

Yay! Got to see more pics of RIMG! Good chattin' with ya.

Wow! Nice gun collection Tristan! I only have my Mossberg 500. Kinda big for me, packs quite a punch, but I just got a Knoxx stock for it so it doesn't beat the crap out of my shoulder too bad everytime I fire it.

Cute pics Hobbleit! Love the Beatles shirt.

Hell's Kitten, gorgeous pics as always. What a beautiful dress! See, don't have any Firefly-y type costumes I can dress up in. *sniff, sniff* It's not fair. :(

Well, here's a couple from my collection. Some old and a good ole weapons pic.

Yeah, I had to put on the trenchcoat...
It's also a Mossberg 500, but the only thing fancy on it is the barrel...slug barrel with a flip-sight. I prefer the pistol grips on this one.

Oh, and an HK-inspired photo:

PR - I saw the other photos in the dark getup, very very nice

HK - I love the intensity of your eyes in the Kaylee's shirt pic. Please tell me those are some cool contacts and not something like a Photoshop effect ???

Roxy - That show of me with the girl in the blue dress is actually one of my favorites, even though it is going on 5 years old now (I think it is because of the girl). Nice good and evil shots, and the eyes and gun shots are sexy as well

Hobbleit - nice to meet/see you. Can't go wrong with The Beatles

Tristan - I think I have seen them before, but I like the gun collection, even though I don't know much about guns. The shot with the pen is a nice touch too.

CallMeSerenity said I should have a cunning hat arriving in the next day or two, and at that point I will get another current shot of myself up here.

Tristan - You're welcome. You're also too kind. But, "HK-inspired photo"? You don't mean me...? Like with the whole "no smiling" thing? Cuz I do, on occassion, smile at the camera.

ChrisMoorhead - You look juuuust fine as "the guy in his jammies," so I won't be disappointed if you don't find yourself a Firefly costume.

Also? "the color blond poisons the brain. Unless it's your natural hair color, I'd switch back to red... I bet that sounds a lot more offensive than I meant it to." - Yeah, but I'm very careful with the bleach! Heh, okay, I'm not, but I'm rather fond of blonde at the moment. I've been considering going back to Dangerous Redhead, but I'm not quite ready for that yet. And don't worry about being offensive - I've been both threatened and insulted by Harlan Ellison at dinner, so you cannot harm me. Hee hee....

RoxyFreefall - Thanks for your kind compliment, but dear, you are Teh Adorable. Every time I see your photos, I think "Kaylee, only cuter!!" And, if you just keep looking, I'm sure a Firefly-like outfit will find you.

PhoenixRose - If you can find me, I'll let you fight me for the dress.
We'll take pictures.
We'll sell the pictures.
We'll make a fortune.
I bought Nandi's dress offa eBay for a song a little while after the show ended. Seems as though either no one cared that it was her costume, or no one knew that it was her costume. It's absolutely gorgeous, completely hand sewn. I get nervous every time I touch it - partially because it seems so delicate, but also because, I mean, Nathan was ALL over that dress - and I couldn't believe it actually fit. Except for the part where I'm apparently way shorter than Melinda Clarke. Oh, look how I ramble. Shiny.

CHRISMOORHEAD

I love that this thread has reverted to pictures of people with their preferred tools of mayhem. It's like, pictures of people with their pets, but 20 times cooler. Y'know, unless your pet's a tiger or something.

ROXYFREEFALL - You could land yourself a role in an action movie with that shot. The eyes fit well with the pose. Any info on the piece you're holding there?

TRISTRAN - Love the trench coat mafia shot. I got 3 trench coats myself, one military issue that goes over the Class A uniform (which is sadly phased out come 2009). Spiffy to wear, but don't you hate how cliche' those things are now? It's like, between Matrix and Columbine, no one get legitimately pull that look off anymore.

Whatever, they're still warm in the Winter.

I also remember a saying, something like "The pen is mightier than the sword, but useless in the hands of a dead man." Being the stubborn, aggressive sumbitch that I am, I tend to agree.

BABYWITHTHEPOWER - Anyone who picks a Heckler and Koch for their firearm's got my (initial) respect. That's a damn decent rifle. They also manufacture my favorite handgun.

Speaking of which... I've never understood the desire to shoot a rifle round out of a handgun, but... have fun with that.

JonnyQuest - I really regret even posting something like that on this forum. I'm not the least bit surprised I never got a response from her, unless it had been in the form of a restraining order. I've never really been on the same page as normal people, and my time in didn't help matters much. Anyways, a bullet extracted on Valentines Day (did I mention that part?), it seemed like I should do something with it. I don't expect anyone else to understand the sentiment, it's a little too personal and emotion driven to explain or use logic with. Just made sense to me. Anyways, it's enough for me, having been able to express myself makes me happy.

And switching topics to the Bushmaster, I don't wanna steal anyone's thunder, so I'll just reiterate what I said before: It's a handgun that fires 5.56 rifle ammunition.

Did you name her Vera?

That my friend, is the finest pistol made by man. Unfortunately, it's not currently in my collection, but I plan on rectifying that (It runs $1,095, so I'm saving now). And yes, this one will have the distinct honor of being named Vera. And for you're reading enjoyment, here is the information on this weapon.

The Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 97S.
The Upper and Lower Receivers are molded of state of the art Carbon Fiber 15 material that offers incredible durability, strength and ultra-light weight. The pistol’s stainless steel, match grade barrel is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge and readily accepts the .223 Remington cartridge as well.

The P97S Upper Receiver features a full length anodized aluminum Picatinny rail that includes integral front and rear iron sights. The windage adjustable rear sight is a combination ghost ring and precision aperture flip-up. The square post front sights offers elevation adjustments for fine zeroing. The Picatinny rail allows the option of mounting a wide variety of auxiliary sighting systems such as long eye relief and standard scopes, red dot, holographic, or laser sights. A similar rail extends the full length of the bottom of the hand guard allowing for the attachment of flashlights and accessories.

Function controls on the Type 97S are in the familiar AR15 layout, and for additional safety, the safety selector lever markings are color coded on both sides of the lower receiver to quickly determine the firing status of the pistol. An ergonomically designed Hogue Overmolded pistol grip is fitted for comfort and a chrome plated bolt bolt carrier is used for long wear and easy cleaning.

Caliber: 5.56mm or .223 Rem.
Magazine Capacity: 30 Rounds (accepts all M16/AR15 type)
Overall Length - Pistol: 20" [50.8 cm]
Barrel Length: 7.25" [18.42 cm]
Rifling: 1 turn in 9" [22.8 cm] R.H. twist / 6 grooves & lands
Weight w/o magazine - Pistol: 58.5 oz. (3.65 lbs.) [1.66 kg]
Weight of empty magazine: .25 lbs. [.11 kg]
Weight of loaded magazine1.0 lbs. [.45 kg]
Operation: Gas Operated
Mode of Operation: Semi-Automatic

I don't really know Harlan, so I'm not qualified to call him a bastard, and I really don't think I ever would.

I've only been to dinner / lunch / whatever with him and friends a handful of times over the past several years. He is one of the most wonderful public speakers I've ever seen (and his wife, Susan, is an absolute charm). I don't think I would ever tire of listening to him, I simply adore him. Anyways. Sure, he can be... abrasive... in some instances, but if you're honest and decent and not-a-dick, you'll get along just fine.

And, um, when you were talking about "blond" and a shorter haircut and reminding you of someone... were you talking to me? I sometimes get confused in posts where multiple people are addressed.

Aaaaaaand in effort to keep the thread from too much drift, here I am after work, angry, annoyed, and in my frivolously purchased new leather coat:

I bought Nandi's dress offa eBay for a song a little while after the show ended. Seems as though either no one cared that it was her costume, or no one knew that it was her costume. It's absolutely gorgeous, completely hand sewn. I get nervous every time I touch it - partially because it seems so delicate, but also because, I mean, Nathan was ALL over that dress - and I couldn't believe it actually fit. Except for the part where I'm apparently way shorter than Melinda Clarke. Oh, look how I ramble. Shiny.

Wait wait wait! That is actually her dress??? Here I thought... Well, I shouldn't have thought it was just a nice copy of it, but so many folk here have great copies of the costumes and... Oooooh, I loved that dress from the first moment I laid eyes on it! I'm betting it wouldn't fit me, though, since you look a bit slimmer than me (and I won't ask how tall you are)
Still, about that fighting for it...?
Taking pictures, eh?
OK, well, now I have to go down to my workout room and take a few shots...

All right, a picture of me fighting my heavy bag:

I went and took seriously thirty pictures, and this is one of the only ones that didn't suffer from total over-blur. The others that weren't too blurry were because they caught me priming myself for a kick instead of actually kicking. Self timers! Digital cameras! Bah!

Hell's Kitten, I merely speak the truth. You are beautiful and very talented...even if you don't want to admit to either.
As for the inspirational part, I was just randomly shooting pictures, and remembered some of yours where the focus was on an ordinary object...then I tweaked the colors, gamma, contrast...a pale copy compared to some of yours, though. You have made me look at taking pictures in a whole new light.
And now look who's rambling....

CMH, yeah, I know what you mean about the trench coat. I have not worn it out in public in about ten years...
The idea with the pen is to not be near the guy with the gun.

BWTP...when you get one of those, you MUST let us play with it!

HK again...you're killing me. Beauty. Poise. Those eyes...

They also make it in 9mm with a 30 round Thompson style magazine. My biggest problem with the 9mm model is that the magazine well is exactly the same, but the magazine itself is much narrower. This opens your feed port to all kinds of contamination.

There's a trade off to be sure. With the rifle ammunition you're going to lose some measure of accuracy if you don't mount an assault handle on the rail. Plus the ammo is more expensive than 9mm (unless you buy bulk military surplus). The cost trade off is in the magazines. The magazines for the 9mm model cost about $45 a pop. I can get 30 rd. M-16 mags for $4 each. Or I can have my buddy from my old unit mail me a bunch and only pay shipping (he'd only do it to the one's that are being phased out, not new ones). And what you lose in un assisted accuracy you make up in power and damage.

I'm also disappointed to hear they are phasing out the Class-A trench. I love that coat.

Gaiman is one of my favorite authors. I'm so jealous. And once I get my camera working I will be more than happy to help get this thread back on track.

Now, I may be a mere military wanna-be (twice applied, first to join the air force as a pilot at the end of high school, then to join the army as a grunt, stupid medical exclusions), but to the best of my knowledge (based on gaming and history books), the Thompson normally got used with an in-inline magazine. It was mostly in mafia movies that the drum mag got used.

And Rose, you know how your photos affect me. My silence in responding is normally a sign of being unable to type coherently.

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

Gotcha! 'K, I just know sometimes pictures do weird things here and show up randomly as a red x of doom, so I thought I'd make sure.

You're absolutely right. The military issue Thompson had a standard vertical-feed magazine. I believe it was 30 rds, may have been more. The drum was used by the military (100 rds is great to have at your fingertips) but rarely on account of them jamming up frequently.

Normal is boring. I make the weirdos look normal. Oh yeah, and I agree with you on The Unit. Not only is it a damn fine show (I am a big fan of the creators) but seeing Summer on it with the special ops boyfriend was definitely cool, even though I have never been close to being active duty military (I am a civilian engineer for the AF, the closest I will ever come to that role).
