"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Oh my! HellsKitten??? If I get there first can I fight you for it too...? It'll never fit me... but I just adore that dress!!!

Maybe I could just come over and... you know... look at it... or even hold it sometime?

Mei Mei - you are far too pretty! And I love the action shot - well worth the wait to get it right I think!

I love all the photos here - Chris - I really like the shot where you're all looking down on the camer - creative photography in the US Armed Forces... who'd have thunk it?

And Tristan ...*sigh*... you're just so *sigh* and you do smile! it just takes the right weapon... does it?

*chuckles.. the pen is mightier...he he he...*

I hope to get you some tiny little photos of my gorgeous new pendant that my parents brought back from the UK... a cross based on a Celtic stone in a churchyeard in St Justin in Cornwall... it has a sword on the back too! I am so very in love with it right now!

Just can't post pictures on this computer...

PR, get that bad bag! I like the shirt, too.

RIMG...that Summer gif...where...*sigh*...pretty!
That's a nice thing to see in the morning.

Magda, thank you! The shotgun always makes me smile for some reason...
Love to see the pendant...as long as you are in the photo, too.

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

My goodness, I have to check this thing more often. So many posts!

Tristan, ok that pen pic, had me giggling for quite some time. Love it, very cute.

RIMG, I really liked the pic of you with the suspenders. pfft! What girl in the blue dress? Nice pics of Summer. Hell, I'm a girl and I think she's hot, lol!

HK, thanks! Coming from you that's a big complement. Your pics are always beautiful. Very nice pic with the leather jacket.

Chris, funny enough that's actually my fav small arms paintball gun. I put a laser site on it and now everyone gets pissed at me when I play. lol! I really want to get a real hand gun for my collection and also for hunting, but there is just so much red tape it hardly seems worth it. It's there for a good reason though.

Phoenix, niiiice, kick shot! Woo hoo! Fight, fight, fight! lol!

Now less talk, MORE PICS DAMNIT!!

Got another decent shot, this one is a punch. I look kinda pissed, though. I think I was glaring at the camera going "You'd better go off soon, before this thing swings back at me!"

And this is me whapping it with the heel of my hand. Pretty blurred, but not too bad, I guess. At least you can tell what I'm doing, rather than just seeing this circular blur that might be making contact with another blur that might be a bag

Yes, I almost always work out in that shirt. Not sure why, I just like it.

I've never really been on the same page as normal people, and my time in didn't help matters much. Anyways, a bullet extracted on Valentines Day (did I mention that part?), it seemed like I should do something with it. I don't expect anyone else to understand the sentiment, it's a little too personal and emotion driven to explain or use logic with. Just made sense to me. Anyways, it's enough for me, having been able to express myself makes me happy.

I understand the sentiment if not the reality of having a bullet taken out of me; it does make sense, given your attachment to Firefly (yet another thread I believe...). Don't be sorry about posting it. It opened a window for me. I "get" you a lot better now. We don't mind that your book (Book?) has different page numbers. We don't have to agree, but it makes us think more and that's good. A lot of people, really didn't know what to make of you at first, especially with your earlier signature tag; although I got that one from the get-go, but I think where others may have seen a "perverse" pride in looking like a Nazi, I read a certain bitterness perhaps at having been scarred, which I now don't think it is either. I'm figuring the scar must be a badge of honor...well maybe...and the irony of having it make you look like one of the despised rather than the hero, made you laugh. Maniacally perhaps, but life plays jokes like that on people. Of course I could still be full of st here.

Did you explain to Summer how and why she was the chosen recipient? I mean I'm sure you said something, but did you tell her the depth of its meaning? Hey I know I'm dangerously close to the line here and I won't get all hurt and huffy if you don't tell me. Jus' wonderin' is all.

HellsKitten - Hmm.. I really wish I had something interesting to say about that guy. But I've never read anything by him, and I'm not a big fan of fiction or science fiction. Ok, how's this? He looks boss with those shades.

Babywiththepower - Actually, they're phasing out the entire Class A uniform. Switching over exclusively to the dress blues. It's part of this whole consolidation campaign that the Army's doing (simple = more efficient). I agree on some parts, I mean, having been through infantry school, I can appreciate the heritage behind the blue uniform. Still... I love them Class A's.

Riverismygoddess - I know all about this whole "It's cool to be weird" thing, cause' that's been mostly the kind of people I've hung around with since High School. I even used to be one of em, but it's different now. Now, it scares people, my parents even kicked me out because they didn't feel safe with me in their houses. I can't blame them for that, but I didn't really have control over what I was doing that scared them. Anyways, not looking to get too far into this. Things have mostly worked out for me now, but I don't think anyone I know is ever going to feel comfortable around me again.

Magdalena - Glad you liked the shot, but it really wasn't "creative". We just weren't supposed to have a camera with us, so we were trying to hide it. Circling up around the thing just seemed to be the easiest way to do it.

JonnyQuest - First of all, please don't give anyone ideas about making another Charlie's Angels movie. I have this sinking feeling that the next one will coincide with the end of the world.

Second, I'm glad that someone besides me can see the sentiment behind what I did. Understanding helps, and gives me hope that maybe more people will be able to eventually. I forget exactly what I wrote to her, only that I acknowledged how creepy it might seem, how it made sense in my mind, and that I wasn't sure if she'd keep it or if it'd even get to her. I told her that I didn't care what happened to it, if she didn't get it at all, threw it out, or kept it, I'd never know and I was contented with just having expressed myself. I also made sure to include that it was sterilized :)

And third, you know that someone already gave me shit for my current signature pic? I'm glad that you could see past the initial shock of the "nazi picture" to the irony underneath it. In real life, Otto Skorzeny was actually scarred on the opposite cheek, but I found a movie made about him where they put it on the wrong one.

Don't get me wrong, though; I am particularly fond of this guy. Him being a Nazi is irrelevant to me, especially since he only ever took a purely combative role in the regime. Committed no war crimes against the Jewish or anyone else, but he was an innovator of special warfare. Just another example of a brilliant mind that chose the wrong side.

In reality, I probably have more in common with the man than most people would like to know. I do wear my renommierschmiss with pride, much like you described it being a badge of honor. I have a number of scars that I'm proud to bear, and would not hesitate the least to offer up to anyone who asked. You're not full of shit on the least in that sense. And yes, I do chuckel at the irony of it, but on a little bit of a larger scale than you described. Not many people know about Skorzeny, but they don't have to. In public, people look, and stare. They form opinions about me, negative ones, based on something that I'm personally very proud of. I laugh to myself every time I see someone staring at me out of the corner of my eye.

It's funny how people can form such negative opinions based on eccentricities. General Patton believed that he was the re-incarnation of a Viking (amongst other things) and is remembered as a national hero, and rightly so. But he was hated by quite a few people in his life. Maybe heroes are only remembered as such after they're long dead. Maybe time is the only thing that grants perspective to the true meaning of their actions. I hope that I have that glory someday.

Phoenix, nice fighting shots. Hey, actions shots need to be a bit blurry, still looks good. The shirt is very fitting, it's a Jayne type shirt and you know he's always ready to kick some ass.

msg, oh my goodness, they are such dolls!! I just wanna pinch the lil cheeks.

Chris, ok I totally missed that part of the statement till JonnyQuest quoted it. Sorry, lil slow, lol! Thank you for that. I actually saw myself as more of a video game vixen, but action movie role works too. But I totally agree with the Charlie's Angels thing. If I was by some chance (oh HELL no) involved with that I'd just end the world myself, be done with it.

Well, I don't have any cute lil Browncoats, but I'll share some family. And most of them are Browncoats so they are pretty worthy of showing.

More of my hubby, had to show off the reason I married him. Ignore my red hair, big temp. lapse in judgement...

This is my added fam. The 3 guys in the front are my hubby's bros and the blonde is his sis in law. They so look like trouble....

For me, it's because I'm of Scottish heritage myself. I'm one of those guys that probably annoys the hell out of people who actually live in Scotland, loving everything about the culture and history, with no real concern for it's modern incarnation. I think the term would be "yuppie".

Ex: I once saw an old man walking around in a kilt here in the US. I immediately thought, "That's the coolest thing I've ever seen.". Having re-kindled my interest in Scotland, I immediately went home and looked up some people from Scotland to talk to. "Surely", I thought, "They enjoy tossing trees and giant stones in their spare time.", but NO! They dye their hair blond and go clubbing just like people in America!

The best science fiction isn't about spaceships and rayguns although those might be present. It's about looking at ourselves and the world around us and our place in it maybe in a way we never had before. Why do you like Firefly? It's Class A science fiction. (Even has blue uniforms!) But that not why any of us like it. We see bits of ourselves in the characters. Harlan Ellison is one of those gifted writers, like Joss, who can do that. Ellison wrote for the Twilight Zone (Rod Serling is one of my all-time heroes, in a Big Damn way) and one of the most popular episodes of Star Trek ever, City on the Edge of Forever. He's got a short story called Repent Harlequin, Said the TickTock Man, which is a quick read and has won all kinds of awards.

But he does look cool in the shades.

Hmmm. Scarred and trench-coated mafioso. Either he's a gangster who just stepped out of a time machine, or he's a gangsta or one of those terrible videogame players that grow up to be postmen! I bet he's packing heat right now and wouldn't blink an eye if he killed me dead. You couldn't possibly be a real American hero who hasn't lost touch with his humanity. Vietnam taught us they could never be one of us again. They're too different and we ought to, need to, fear them.

That close? Kelkhil and NVG, and any other vets, please chime in. Not in my book gentleman.

Quotes and quotes within quotes, I'm in heaven. So much less for me to write.
The accent - anything that isn't "American" English is "exotic". Of course we take it a step further and regionalize it within our own borders. *Thinks dreamily of MsG's Georgia Peach Vocalizations and LittleAlbatross29's Brooklynese* Scottish English, to us is barely dicypherable and therefore extremely exotic.

X-Men - is GOOD! My prize possession is Giant-Size X-Men #1 in good to very good condition: heh, heh, heh, bought at the newstand for a mere 50 cents brand new. Sigh.

Stones and kilts - A good friend of mine goes to the Highland Festival we have here every year. He's a piper and teaches it too. There is no such thing as blended malt Scotch if anyone is interested.

Tree throwing in the rain - Scots are nothing if not "practical", isn't that right?

Blond - Note to self: easy on the blond jokes.

One of my favorite CD's is Scott MacDonald's Sons of Somerled? Are you familiar with it? Och. Now I got to go play it.
Have a good night.

EDIT: It's Steve McDonald. How's that for stereotyping?

So, y'all know what I did tonight? I took pictures of myself. Yep. Dug out some costumes and just went to town. You did this to me....this thread demanding more pictures has turned me into a full-fledged camera Companion!

Now, please be kind. I had a field day....there are no normal-dressed shots in here at all...there's even one of me in a kilt...with no shirt. That one I am worried about. I am not muscle-bound, nor am in anything approaching shape, but I feel comfortable enough sharing with my fellow Browncoats.
So, a Musketeer, a Landsknecht, an Elizabethan, and a Celt... just tell me when to stop....

Oh, extra points to anyone that can identify the symbol on the cloak...and no, it's not a fleur du lis

Alright. I'm done for now...until the Siren call of the camera drags me back in again!

Hello... Ah Roxy, much as I dislike being at odds with Tristan, I happen to think you are one lucky girl to have such a cute husband!!

And my Mei Mei is so very 'Jayne' in those pics too... I agree with you once again Roxy!! ...not that I think you are anything but gorgeous yourself, and I am a little jealous to be honest!

Oh dear Tristan... been hitting the rum again have we? You surpass the 'Camera Companion' title I think... I did giggle at the one PR singled out too... I thought you might wake up in the morning with a hang-over and no hand or something... oh also! ...are you a little cold in the last shot qing ren?? *sigh*

Well as I promised a couple of folk I am posting a picture of my new favourite pice of jewellery - a cross brought home for me by my parents - it is from St Justin in Cornwall and the Cornish consider themselves Celtic, even if the purists do not...

..as you see it has a copy of a Celtic Headstone from the little parish church yard on the front and a sword on the back... hence my one and only sword in my possession is now posted here too!

And just for good measure my favourite ring which I wear every day...
...I do not know why it looks like I have a giant hand... or a tiny keyboard, but there it is!

Ummm... I will try to take some more pics of me soon! Not quite the 'companion' that Tristan is...

Sadly, most finger armour is banned here (classed as a dangerous weapon), so my jewellery is limited to a trio of rings (one of which I wear everywhere, the other two are only worn with certain outfits) and various dragons that hang on chains/cords around my neck.

Ok, so you might be able to do a bit of damage with it (though you might break your finger) but really, a pen is more deadly than finger armor. I think that's so funny...

Ooh, Magda! Pretty necklace! And hey, is that the keyboard that brings such joy and happiness into my life? *sigh*
Yep...I started with the rum while sewing, then got a wild idea to take some pictures...and that's what happened.
Um...cold? Well, it is cold in Alabama at night, so...

That cross, if I have it right, is actually a copy of the lead cross that covered the "burial place" of Arthur that was discovered in the 12th century in Glastonbury...I think that's where it was. Someone correct me, please! I used to know the words by heart....something like "Here lies King Arthur, buried on the island of Avalon". On the cross it should say in Latin "Hic iacet supultus...." I can't remember the rest.
Awww! Is that River at 10 months? She's beautiful! And I love your hair! And that killer, beautiful smile again!

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

Yay! More shiny pics!

Trist, ok, you never fail to to entertain me with your pics. And my goodness, the kilt pics! Yeeeeeah, suuuure, blame the rum. It's ALWAYS the rum's fault. I have to say, you did have me doing a search for that insignia last night, to no avail though. It was a little late to do a thorough search. *sigh* I hate being stumped. Oh and I'll see what I can do about getting pics up of me. Wouldn't want to over burden you with pics of my very hot hubby. Hehe!

Magda, thank you! My sweetie is beautiful inside and out. And he's a Browncoat, what more could I ask for?? Your necklace is just stunning! I love jewelry like that. Beautiful ring as well. But of course the most gorgeous is that lil "River" of yours. Awwwww, melts my heart. I love that you two have matching hair, that just made me smile. You have the most beautiful smile as well. I bet that little tike puts it on your face every day, huh?

Well, here's a couple of my jewelry pieces. Sorry the pics aren't very good. I need a better cam, STAT!

This is one of my fav necklaces I got from the Renaissance Festival...

And of course, my Serenity necklace I wear every day...

Thank you, Roxy! I am here for entertainment purposes! Y'all did this to me, you know.
I don't blame the rum, I thank it for the inspiration...does that sound better?
Yeah, the kilt pics had me a bit worried...I see something like CMH's Caledonia pic and laugh at my own.
If you get really stumped on that insignia, let me know.
Nice necklaces! Ren Faires, eh? I used to perform in a few. I miss them...

Ahhh, I thank drinks for inspiration... and they tend to thank me too. In fact that drink in that pic over at the pub thanked me a bit too much. Trist, be worried not (ok, I just had a Yoda moment), kilts are very welcome. There should be more of them in this world! Believe me when I saw Nathan Fillion in one... *faints* You did the Renn. Fests? I mean I shouldn't really be surprised because you look like you belong in that time, but that is really awesome! I frequent the Renn. Fests every year in upstate NY. They are so much fun!

Roxy, I never made it up to NY. I was a producer/actor/choreographer for about four years for faires in Alabama, Louisiana (once, actually), and for a festival over in Savannah (I never made that one, but the group did). And of course, there are tons of photos...I might scan a few, but I think I may end up crashing the site if I keep this up.
And thank you for the kilt comment. I love wearing them, I just usually have a shirt on.
Yeah, that drink looks like it was trouble!

Well, here be my ring collection:

It's not the best picture ever, but it's the best one I could get.
My necklace shots are really big, so I'm going to refer anyone who wants to see them to the photobucket page itself so I don't break the thread.

This is the collection which hangs in my closet. Most of my necklaces are here. Yes my closet is huge.

That my friend, is the finest pistol made by man. Unfortunately, it's not currently in my collection, but I plan on rectifying that (It runs $1,095, so I'm saving now). And yes, this one will have the distinct honor of being named Vera. And for you're reading enjoyment, here is the information on this weapon.

The Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 97S.
The Upper and Lower Receivers are molded of state of the art Carbon Fiber 15 material that offers incredible durability, strength and ultra-light weight. The pistol’s stainless steel, match grade barrel is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge and readily accepts the .223 Remington cartridge as well.

The P97S Upper Receiver features a full length anodized aluminum Picatinny rail that includes integral front and rear iron sights. The windage adjustable rear sight is a combination ghost ring and precision aperture flip-up. The square post front sights offers elevation adjustments for fine zeroing. The Picatinny rail allows the option of mounting a wide variety of auxiliary sighting systems such as long eye relief and standard scopes, red dot, holographic, or laser sights. A similar rail extends the full length of the bottom of the hand guard allowing for the attachment of flashlights and accessories.

Function controls on the Type 97S are in the familiar AR15 layout, and for additional safety, the safety selector lever markings are color coded on both sides of the lower receiver to quickly determine the firing status of the pistol. An ergonomically designed Hogue Overmolded pistol grip is fitted for comfort and a chrome plated bolt bolt carrier is used for long wear and easy cleaning.

Caliber: 5.56mm or .223 Rem.
Magazine Capacity: 30 Rounds (accepts all M16/AR15 type)
Overall Length - Pistol: 20" [50.8 cm]
Barrel Length: 7.25" [18.42 cm]
Rifling: 1 turn in 9" [22.8 cm] R.H. twist / 6 grooves & lands
Weight w/o magazine - Pistol: 58.5 oz. (3.65 lbs.) [1.66 kg]
Weight of empty magazine: .25 lbs. [.11 kg]
Weight of loaded magazine1.0 lbs. [.45 kg]
Operation: Gas Operated
Mode of Operation: Semi-Automatic

Now put an EoTech HWS 552 on that thing, then you've got something you can clear a house with.

I still have the one I used in Iraq, and it is great at what it does...

Hehehehehe, I have a lot of jewelry. I've liked it since I was young, so I've had about 12 years to accumulate all that. I never have the heart to get rid of anything, and I'm pretty good at keeping track of it all, so it's just grown
I have about fifty rings and maybe sixty some necklaces. I'm very picky about any new jewelry, as you can imagine.

JonnyQuest - I've read Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "Starship Troopers" before. Also "Lord of Light" by Roger Zelazny. All are pretty high-brow science fiction (I think), and I enjoyed them. I just lost interest after High School, put all of my efforts in to "real world" stuff. There was a good 5 or 6 year period where I didn't want anything to do with fiction in any form. I stopped playing video games, watching TV, etc. Anything I read was usually historical or some sort of manual.

That I became interested in FireFly at all it truly strange, but pretty in it's own way.

As for my picture, someone else on this forum told me that I should take it down because I look "self-worshiping", went on this whole rant about how I look like a child with a trashcan lid in his hand. I think they were mostly angry that I disagreed with them over something.

Tristan - Nice pics man! I have no clue about the symbol in the first one. But, can I just say that your pasty white body is a tribute to your celtic heritage? You don't look anymore out of shape than the average American, and your physique probably mirrors that portrayal of that culture better than mine. I know that your get-up's a whole lot better, if for nothing else, because you have a real spear. Didn't I see another one of you somewhere where you were holding one of those small punch bucklers?

MSG - Don't worry, it wasn't you I was talking about. I really don't mind people commenting or even poking fun at my picture, but this particular person was being very insulting for absolutely no reason.

HellRaiser! It's been TOO long. I'm glad you're still around here. Maybe we're just traveling in different circles.

There just something about a gun. Even if you are absolutely 150% against war, violence, or private ownership of firearms, damn: there is just something about the look and feel of a gun (or a sword for that matter), that is just fkin' COOL!

On the other hand I still like your signature line. Good to hear from you and don't be a stranger. Although online time might be kinda limited, huh?

MSG, the little uns are adorable!

CMH, thanks for that. Never been called pasty white, but I guess it does fit.
That spear is the first 'real' medieval weapon I bought...the shaft is warped like crazy now...
I, for one, like the fact that you have a picture of yourself in your sig. Self-worshipping? Pah. It's just a damn good picture.
I do have a punch buckler...not sure when I posted it, though.
Thanks again!

Hope ya don't take offense to the "pasty white" comment. My friends and I are always laughing about our Celtic (and for most of then, Irish-Celt) heritage, and the incredibly, ghost white appearance it can give us, along with the inability to grow any decent facial hair. Course, I'm exempt from that last part, being of Scottish decent. But yeah, the "pasty white" thing ain't an insult, it's super-fly-astro-cool!
