When I was younger (in my early 20's, not terribly long ago, but you get the idea), I faced, as we all do, the question of what to do with myself. Retrieving carts in a parking lot just wasn't gonna cut it. Eventually, I got my choices down to two: Repairing Computers or Cooking.

Well, I ended up fixing computers, a field I have since walked away from and not without some loathing.

On the other hand, I still cook, as a hobby and way to unwind, but I enjoy it far too much to do for a living.

Anyway, I think it would be interesting to have seen a Firefly/Serenity Cookbook develop over the course of the BDTVS and the BDM, but how much could really have been done with "proteins in all the colors of the rainbow"?

When the chocolate birthday cake is pretty much what you just had for dinner, there's not much to work with.

Then again, I'm sure Saffron, Kaylee, and Book would be more than qualified contributors. By the way, what exactly is "fresh bow (spelling?)"?

Thoughts?

There's not a power in the 'verse can stop me...

steveshurtleff,
There is a recipe thread. It's not exactly recipes for protein meals, buy you might enjoy it. Have you checked it out? If not, here's the link:

Bao is Chinese for bun. My favorite is chasiew bao. It's a bun that is filled with barbeque pork. Traditionally the bun is steamed, so it's white. Although you can get them baked, and that makes them browned like most buns.

I'm not sure of the spelling of chasiew. It may be chasu, but it's yummy!

Yeah we started the recipe thread because we have quite a few of us who cook often and enjoy it and you're welcome to check with those people and see if they'd like to be included in a book. I,for one, would love it:)

I believe its Char sui Bao (theres one single place that does them near me, and i there when ever i get the chance!)

Its very yummy fluffy sweetish bun type thing and they are wonderful. I did have a recipie once that was from a book someone had compiled of recipies used by street vendors in the various countries, that one was done with red bean paste, but char sui is yummy. I've also seen them called Baozi.

as for making lots of different things with protien, we already make a thousand different things with soy protein, it could be done.

Seryn, I think you're right. Char sui Bao looks right. There is a Chinese market near me, and they have frozen baos with all different fillings. Char sui just happens to be my favorite. It's nice to have them in the freezer to pop in the microwave when the craving hits.

that would be dreamy.

As it is i have to get the cashy money and a willing friend together at the same time in order to get my hands on them.

We need more chinese markets around here - we have a great chinatown, why not a big market?

Thanks, all...

I work overnight, so your comments were quite the pleasing way to wake up. I'll be sure to check out all of the links in the morning (evening).

As for the whole soy protien thing, well, that doesn't even sound appetizing, but you're right. However, nothing will ever beat a nice, big steak.

By the way, the description of bao has me drooling already, and I haven't even gotten my coffee yet.

Thanks again!
