Ahem. I thought I was addressing PhoenixRose regarding the spankies. I was talking to you about bondage with NVG.

Hmm. You know trying to answer this doesn't seem to be helping my image around here at all. I'll think I'll go over and sulk in the corner for a while and think up some non-sex-related quotes to spring on y'all.

Mavoureen- here you go
LEMON SAUCE:
2 cups fresh lemon juice
1 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste

Whisk together juice, oil, vinegar, garlic, oregano, and salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Whisk or shake vigorously before using.

Honey Mustard:
3/4 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice or juice from 1/2 lemon
Horseradish, to taste
2 tablespoons orange juice (more or less as needed)

Combine all ingredients except orange juice; stir well. Thin to pouring consistency for dressing or dipping consistency for dips with orange juice. Cover and chill for 2 or 3 hours.

It's all hand-me-downs and my observation of others, really. While I'm witty and charming (or at least people pity me enough not to point out that I'm neither) I have found myself in the same shoes as (I think it was Zeek): everybody's friend. All thoughout Jr. High and High School I was the Cheerleaders' Champion. They all loved me. I took up for them. Poor, ugly, luckless, unloved creatures that they were. And I was the boyfriend of none of them. Did ever put any of it into practice? I'm sure I did. Was I ever smooth? I really doubt it. All I can tell you is I've been married for 17 years and I musta done something right...

Thanks so much - I figured you'd post this in your recipe thread.

2 C lemon juice? Wow, that seems like a lot...but okay. My sauce was terrible so I'll do as I'm told.

*relieved sigh* Ah, okay, so no admitted blushing. Gotcha. Guess I keep my job, then. What job is that, you ask? Hmmmm, good question. It used to be 'World's most Knowledgable Virgin' but that title expired a few years ago.
Any ideas?

Do you have a really good Lemon Chicken recipe? I tried to make one last night and it was horrible. I ended up throwing out the sauce and we just ate the chicken breasts.

I'm also on the lookout for a good Honey-Mustard sauce...

Everyone one I've tried from the Internet (all of 2, mind you) have been yucky.
Can you help a girl out?

Not MsG, but...

1) Chop an onion and fry on a medium-high heat in a little mixed oil and butter till it begins to brown. (Or not so hard if you like less-well-cooked onions. I like mine very caremelised so I cook them really well at this stage.)

2) Add chicken, either breasts or chunks thereof. Seal on all sides.

3) Add chopped/crushed clove of garlic and 1/2 teaspoon mixed herbs that must include oregano, or more if you like herbs and garlic as much as lemon.

4) If you are using whole chicken breasts, fry on medium heat for 5 minutes, turning at least once partway. If you are using chopped up bits, fry on medium heat for 3 minutes, paying attention to all sides of the bits. Try not to burn the garlic.

5) Turn pan to a low heat. Add 1/8 pint (quarter of a mugful) of dry white wine, half a chicken stock cube, half a teaspoon of sugar and the juice of a whole lemon. Stir so stock and sugar dissolve.

5) Simmer for 5 more minutes. The chicken should be cooked through but still tender and the sauce should be reduced but still there. If it looks like it's all going to evaporate before cooking is finished, add more wine rather than water.

I don't do mustard; sorry.

OK seriously pissed!!! I had a substitute for the first half of the day while I was at the lame training. Apparently she not only allowed my students to play chess instead of doing work, she allowed them to use my personal chess set( which I allow only select students to use with my supervision as sort ofa mark of trust/badge of honor) It was made for me by my best friend Chris in 1985 hand carved pieces and had made board. It's carefully locked in my closet and apparently the sub not only unlocked my closet( had to leave her keys to open and lock the room) but allowed my kids to play with the set and now one piece is missing!!!!!

Mavoureen I use that as a marinade and to brush over chicken while baking...if you want a reduction sauce you can sear the chicken until brown and remove it to the oven to bake.In a small microwaveable bown chop 2 shallots drizzle with oil and microwave for 1 min on high. Put them in the pan you took the chicken from and add 1/4 c lemon juice, salt, pepper, and a bit of butter. The splash in some wine and allow it to reduce until it's a deep yellow and add capers. then take the chicken out and return it to the pan and turn it once or twice to coat:)

Oh and PR...I guess I'm just assuming the others are thinking what I'm thinking which is " lucky Nico"

See had it been my older classes, they would have told her they aren't allowed to use that set, but it was my 7th graders and I doubt I will see it again... Sigh well I can always ask Chris to carve a new one while he's busy dodging bombs in Iraq.

Found my TA who apparently told the sub repeatedly the kids were not allowed to play with that set. She told him it was just a stupid chess set. Now I grant you he does look like he's been recently paroled after mutiple felonies, but come on he's the TA he does know how the class is run. It's thanks to him that most of the pieces were put back. he stood over the kids and tried to make sure it all got put away and everything was not mishandled...Still looking for the one piece though:(

Yeah, car repairs are a necessary evil. Another mental hug for you, PR.

Good luck!!!

EDIT: And what part of "The kids aren't allowed to play with it." didn't he understand. For pete's sake, if the TA told me that, the kids wouldn't be playing with it. End of story. Besides, playing chess rather than working like they should have shows the sub isn't reliable in the first place...

You are SUCH a good teacher and have this GREAT creative streak in you and are able to elicit from these kids good and appropriate judgments and behaviors. There's got to be something you can pull out of your bag of wiles and charms and wit that can make whoever took it from you to want to give it back.

NICODEMUS

Note to self: 36 or so hours away from the boards makes for a lot of catch-up reading to do.

I had my end of year exam for French last night (1st year-level French at uni is equivalent to that learnt by high school students, cramming 5 years worth of teaching into one year). I know I could have done better as I made the mistake of going to see Children of Men in the cinema prior to the exam. It's a very impressive film and one I'd recommend to anyone to watch, but only if they didn't need to focus on anything for the next day or so, as it left me feeling battered, mainly due to it being a very possible depiction of how things in the world are going.

So now I'm here and trying to catch up on everything. So let's see if I can add my 2c worth to some of the recent discussions.

Books/Bookshelves As a fast reader and a uni student, my shelves are all overflowing with a mix of everything. Some older stuff like the 1st edition copies of The Exorcist and The Time Machine, a 1971 set of LOTR (complete with fold-out maps) and an early 1900's copy of The Three Musketeers. Complete sets of books include the Wheel of Time series (what there is of it so far) and everything ever written by Matthew Reilly. Graphic novels/comics include the full sets of Sin City, Preacher and Transmetropolitan.
Then there's all the textbooks from uni (politics, history, religion, engineering, media studies).

So what does my library say about me? Buggered if I know.

NVG I know I haven't weighed in on you yet, but I feel it's time to start lobbing bricks at you.

Cooking I do a lot of the cooking in this house, so I'm always up for new recipes. In amongst all the special features on the Sin City dvd is the 10 minute Cooking school, which has a nice looking breakfast taco recipe on it, which I'm planning on trying in the next week or two.

That's enough for now. I'm sure there's been more stuff added for me to reply to while I've been writing this.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

I can remember taking tests that I was sure I was unsure of, and having them turn out all right. Of course, there were those that I had a good grasp of the material and figured all would be well and then had the questions be all about the one part I was weak on. Good luck, my friend.

Quotes -
"I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member." (Groucho Marx)

"Some of these theorems may have been repeated,
some maybe be weak or false , some may be revolutionary.
The dilemma is how do we know.
With this amount of information how can anyone decide what is good bad or indifferent???" (Stanisław Ulam-Ulam's Dilemma)

"Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes." (Walt Whitman)

Dead to me -
There have been individuals whom I have come across that have absolutely given me the eeriest, creepiest feeling. There was a guy for instance in my old apartment complex who did and dealt drugs that we all called Charlie Manson. It wasn't that he was huge or built or tough-looking. It was his eyes. Like looking into the eyes of Azrael. *shuddlers with willies*
