Quote:I'm glad you like them. I'll let everyone know what kind of deal I can work out with the patch place. At worst, I'm thinking $2 a patch. Once I send chunks of them to the contributors, you can charge whatever you want for them, but once we decide on a quantity and what everybody's going to help offset for me, than just tell me how much you can/want to contribute and you'll get the equivalent amount of patches.

Please tell me that if you pay the $20 you can get the signature AND take a picture with them. It would kinda suck to have an either/or situation.

Quote:Well for one thing, modern military doesn't wear a Brigade patch: They were a Division patch. Not sure how/if this will matter to anyone, because unless the word "Brigade" was used specifically we could easily assume that all references to the 76th was a reference to a Division number. However, if we're dead set on Brigade, I would suggest to Babywiththepower that you look up the word "Regiment", the Chinese Military equivalent of Brigade. I'll put forth for my own vote that we stick with having the patch represent our Division, and that we choose a Company of a Battalion of a Brigade of the 76th Division to represent. If this is cool with you Tristan, I could write up all of the nomenclature on it, give us a real identity. I think it's pretty much decided that you'd be the Company Commander, most likely making you a Captain (imagine that?). You could assign a First Sargeant and an XO of Lieutenant rank.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Quote:Originally posted by BrownCoat1: BWTP, those are some shiny patches. I prefer the oval or circular design to the hexagon one, but that is just me. The triangular one is nice, but may be too much since the Independent patch is already a triangle. Don't much care for the square. I'll gladly buy several when they are made (or in advance if need be) to insure I can get them in time to sew on & get the numbers needed to place the patch order.

Quote:Originally posted by BrownCoat1: Don't mean to make waves, but why are we worrying so much about whether a brigade patch is worn now when we are discussing a fictional unit from 500 years in the future? Lot of things could have changed in military doctrine from the present to the time in the future when the Independents become an army. I say we stick with brigade and move forward. If the characters in the patch don't translate to brigade, why bother with them at all. Just go with the star and the unit number.
Quote:Sergeant Malcolm Reynolds is stationed on Hera and in command of thirty-odd grunts, including Zoe Alleyne. Five days into the battle, there are so many officers dead that he commands two thousand, and he keeps all of them together, fighting, and sane. The Browncoats are forced to pile up the bodies of fellow soldiers and friends to build a wall because they have no cover, while blood just keeps pouring out of them. The survivors slip in it half the time, finding out that "bloodbath" is not just a figure of speech. [Firefly DVD and website. In the same deleted scene, Zoe tells Simon about the role she and Mal played in the battle, though they "didn't turn the tide of glorious history."]

Quote:Originally posted by babywiththepower: No waves made. Frankly it doesn't matter, but it's all a matter of preference. Also, you don't see any unit patches on any of the soldiers in the flashbacks other than the triangle one Mal pulls of the dead LT. We're all assuming that's the 'Independent Patch', but in all honesty, it may be the patch of the 57th Overlanders. I personally prefer the idea of wearing the Battalion patch because as a Bn we could be one of the Bn's that make up the "Balls and Bayonets" Brigade (the 57th) and therefore be in Mal's unit, even if under him. So it's a very real possability that the BDH himself will lead us in the Battle of Serenity Valley.

Quote:Originally posted by Tristan: shinyhappyklin, glad to have you! Thank you about the patches! We do have a design we are trying to decide on, and I am still not sure if we are wearing both of them. I am defering decisions like that to the military and ex-military amongst us. It's been a bit quiet today.
