It's 5.20am. Maybe I've slept a bit. Don't think so. I've been lying in bed all night listening to the cricket on the internet. Decided I'd go to bed after Collingwood's double century and was just about to turn off when he got out. I remember the Hussain/Thorpe stand at Edgebaston in 1997: I was wondering if Collingwood'd go round about now, though hoping he wouldn't. At least Pietersen already passed Thorpe's score.

Anyone else in the UK still up or got up early? Anyone in Australia on the sports and the FFF board at the same time? Anyone else thoroughly confused by this rambling sleep-deprived Englishwoman?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I am thoroughly confused, but I'm here.

Working nights does that to me.

As for cricket, an esteemed member of these boards once said that it works something like this:

Cricket is a very, very simple game:

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in goes out and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

When both sides have been in and out twice,
including the not outs, that's the end of the game.

What's hard about that?

Glad I could help

I just caught the latest on the cricket from the BBC morning news! Hooray for us English!! It's nice to see a fellow cricket fan. I wish I could have listened last night but I had to be up early for this morning to take my girlfriend to work. However I shall be watching the highlights tonight :D
It's just so nice to see a great contest from both sides! Winning would be great of course but I just like to see good cricket and a decent show from our boys.
Well done for staying up though :D you've earned your stripes :D I bet you felt suitably rewarded after the much underated Collingwood made his double century!!! He's such a great player and falls to the wayside because he doesn't have a superstar status - but he is one of the hardest working players out there!!!

OK I should stop I culd talk cricket for ages!!

Well done Eloisa!!!

Cheers

YES! Cricket kicks ass! I'm just glad to see we're making up for the first test. Never count England out, damn it!

I'm not a dedicated cricket fan, but I do try to keep track. Certainly glad to see us put a good innings in, but I want to see what the bowlers can make of the surface before I get over-excited.

It would be nice to put paid to all the people who said that the Ashes win was just a fluke.

Well, Langer before close of play is a good start. I'm... not 100% confident, though. Being a geek I have the DVDs of the last series, and after Brisbane I was watching the Lords test to remind me how badly we did in that one, and it was littered with references to "England's pace quartet" and I remembered the commentators saying last time what a wonderful luxury that was for Vaughan. I feel like a toddler Sim doing the "Where did it go?" action. Flintoff's the only one who looks as crisp right now, and he can't bowl the whole innings unless we increase the comparability to Edgebaston 97 and get them out for 118.

Gladiator32, nice sig banner.

(I feel better than I have in ages despite having had only seven hours' sleep and that not normally being nearly enough. I also woke up at the time I would have set my alarm if I'd thought to do so. WTF?)

Ah, a fellow Essex Browncoat?? Or is that a slightly cheeky reference to the little cultural hole in which I live??

Neither, actually; I'm a Londoner. Nil sarcasm; I just like it.
