May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Sounds like a plan to me Tristan. I have a replica Mal pistol I will be carrying.

Flags...as long as it is a flag and not a banner. We will be marching with the SEBC and I do not want us to be competing with them, if that makes any sense. But, as we are supposed to be a relatively new Battalion...not too bloodied yet...would it make more sense to put one or two battles rather than the major ones? Just my thoughts. As for design and such, I am a fan of the smaller "battle flags". Again, not really up on military terminology; I again defer to the military amongst us. I do like Sister's idea of having a unit flag somewhere that gets added to as time goes by. That would be shiny!

I hadn't thought about banners conflicting w/ the SEBC. Good call. Of course I can't see a military unit with a banner, so no sweat.

I agree if we are supposed to be a relatively new unit we can leave off the big battles, especially near the end of the War, so we scratch Hera & Du Khang. We could just make up a couple of names to represent skirmishes.

The helmets...BrownCoat1, the Russian design is close, and at $9.97, pretty affordable. If you can find a good rate on the US helmets with a decent stock, please let us know!

Ooh, random drawing to carry the flag...I like that and second the suggestion. A drawing amongst the 76th the morning of the parade. How does that sound? Something simple that we can manage to do early in the AM, though...before all brain cells are firing properly.

I will check around to see what I can find. $9.97 is a really good price for the Russian helmet.

Glad the suggestion meets w/ the COs approval. Figured it was the only fair way to do it. Figured we could just have all those interested drop a slip with their name on it into a helmet and the CO could draw names to carry the flags.

Ah, double-posts...gotta love 'em!

BrownCoat1, I have one of the Mal replicas, too...just thought everyone else would be wearing them...this gives me the chance to find something different! Not sure what yet, but the opportunity is there.

I am not the CO yet! BWTP suggested putting things like that to a vote, and I agree with him, although I am flattered by the suggestions so far. I still think I would end up like the shell-shocked Lt in The Message!

I think those helmets come in bulk lots, and BWTP set it up so he will get a notification when they get them back in stock. That way, we can make a run on them all at once. I'll probably buy a few to have on hand for those that don't get to them in time.

I am still running patterns for a coat through my mind, and the pinned-together vest is still in my shop. I have quite a number of costume orders to finish before I can get back to the Army uniform, but I will, I promise!

Tristan, the only problem I have had with the Mal replica is finding a leather holster that it will fit. I have two holsters, and it doesn't fit into either. I may wind up going with another pistol for the costume just so I have a pistol that will fit one of my leather holsters.

Well, if it comes to a vote you have mine my friend. The 76th was your idea and you have been out there in the forefront since its inception. Though the shellshocked LT is a rather amusing mental image. LOL

Thank you, Sister, for that!
And thank you as well, BrownCoat1. Shellshocked.

I had to build a holster for my Mal replica, and I ended up going through a lot of leather to get it right...and it's still not perfect. I do have a pattern...drop me a line at tristan71@cableone.net and I'll see about getting the pattern to you.

If anyone is having problems finding a holster to fit Mal's gun, hubby may be able to help you out. He made a holster for our son's friend when he went to Archon as a Samari Cowboy. We do have pictures of it on our website, although they're a little fuzzy ( www.legendaryleatherworks.com). He's also a member of our local leatherworking guild, and so has access to guys that make holsters for a living. Let us know if we can help you out!

I like the idea of a flag. I also like the idea of it not being professionally made, but more something that's been pieced together. Just my opinion, though. As to the flag bearer, we could always set up a sign-up area on the SEBC table, then have the CO draw the lucky solider(s) Saturday morning. Might be easier to set something up in advance, as I'm under the impression that "shit is crazy" on Saturday morning.

My $.02 for now.

Oh, I forgot to mention...

Saxon has kindly offered to spread the word when she goes to Flanvention II this weekend out in Cali. Hubby's gonna work up some 1/4 sized flyers with the website, which she'll print and hand out. Hopefully you'll pick up a few more 76ers that way!
