Alright, then. I hereby nominate RIMG for the position of Sergeant First Class for the contribution of beer and cookies in the position of Medic for the 76th.

I know I'm not an actual part of the Battalion, but I always feel like it's ok for me to weigh in with my opinion.

The differently colored scarves seem like a very good idea. Blue for officers, green for...I don't know, non-coms maybe?, and red for infantry/enlisted folk.

I 3rd the motion for BWTP to be second in command.

Nameplates on the uniforms...forgive my military ignorance (dad was Navy, I should know better), but don't a lot of the guys/gals go by nicknames anyway? Last names on a tag would be BORING! Nicknames, though....whoowee! I imagine you wouldn't see many officers with "BABYWITHTHEPOWER" on their uniforms. LOL.

Should you care to add me:
Ali, BoomerGoodheart, LegendLeather (name, screen name, nick on my D*C badge)
St. Louis, MO, USA
Privateer for the Independents >or< Renegade Military Supplier

edit: 2nd the motion, Tristan.

BWTP...the only thing I could find on the website that needs correcting is the text on the uniform page. It's floating under the pictures in places, and therefore unreadable.

Other than that, spot on!

He's got my vote. Does that meant that ArtCat will get to be our LT? We can't verywell have a respectable unit without at least one LT running around. Who would do all the CPT and COL's work?

And rather than Supply, Art, I think Armoror would be a better title.

In this case, I would go for it. Though in the Army (not posative about the other branches) it's agains regulations to have anything but your last name on your uniform, though my unit let us put our callsigns on the back of our soft cap for when we were in the field. (Hence me mentioning Caboose).

BWTP, good idea. I hereby change the nomination for ArtCat to Lieutenant/Armorer.
Second?

Boomer, thank you for the second on RIMG and the third on BWTP.
BWTP, thanks for the third on RIMG.
So be it.
BWTP is our XO. I am not sure of what that means rank-wise...but I am sure you do!
RIMG is our Sergeant First Class.

Boomer, I have no problem including you, under one condition . If you don't plan on marching, would you at least think about wearing the uniform?

I like the idea of blue scarves for the officers, green for the non-coms, red for the enlisted. Everyone else ok with that?

I do like the idea of screen names or nicknames for our uniforms. Shiny!

Sounds good. And it's Captain btw. RIMG, I'll need a name to go after the SFC. SFC is as high as I think we chould go enlisted for the mean time. We don't really have enough troops to support needing a higher rank. (I know this is all just for fun, but we need to maintain some level of realism).

Made a few more updates to the site. I've been up now for 24hrs straight. It's time for some sleep.

Quick update on the vest. I finally assembled the whole thing, minus the front attachments (still trying to decide what to use).
I am not happy with the cloth. It is far too thin, and I actually ripped it near the armhole...so, thicker material is needed. I also think I need to go darker with the red. I decided to stick to the simple three lines rather than the complicated cross-hatching. It will be more uniform if we all have that same look, and it cuts down on "production" time. The actual cut of the vest itself is not bad. It's comfortable and fits well.

Let me know what y'all think, and give me some ideas.

Oh, I don't know about wearing the uniform. As I said, very shy. I hate drawing attention to myself. In addition, I'm very hard to fit. Tall, big hips, small waist...you get the idea.

I don't mind being support personnel. Somebody has to be behind the scenes!

NICODEMUS

For the roster: Nico. Adelaide Hills (area, not an actual town), SA, Australia.

Depending on the availability of helmets, I might end up going with a red headband, somewhat like the one Zoe's wearing. Or I could just tie my scarf around my head.

Thx for the suggestions on the grenades. I figure I'll go with the Red Bull cans mocked up like stunners/flashbangs and standard size cans done as either smoke 'nades or frags. The cans will be unopened, so that I (or anyone running low on sugar/caffiene) can make use of them. At least, that's the plan, but we all know what happens is rarely the same as what was planned.

Also, I'll be carrying an assortment of wires, wire-cutters, batteries (useful in case anyone's camera goes flat), and a random collection of detonators (or stuff made to look like them).

**************

(Thx to Desktop Hippie for the banner)
If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

Morning, all!

Boomer...alright, how about a patch, then? Something to indicate you are with us!

Nico, if it's a matter of not having a helmet shipped to you due to costs, I should have one or two extras if'n you want to borrow one.
I am looking forward to seeing the demolitions outfit!

BWTP, thank you. I am thinking I'll go with a darker red cotton duck...that'll be a bit tougher than the poly/cotton I had laying around. And I'm glad you like the three lines. All told, that vest took me about three hours to do, so they are not that bad.
Would you mind putting one of those two pictures in place of the one currently on the 76th's Uniform page if you have time? I would appreciate that.

Sister, thank you!

Hey, would yall prefer someone as a LMG gunner, close support sharpshooter or just another g36 toter? My SL-8 could appear to fill the role of wither a LMG if i got a C-mag or a sniper rifle if i went with a low profile mag and a scope.

low rez image of the gun with a C-mag

and with a low profile mag but no scope

(i already own this as an airsoft, and most of the costume, so any imput would be good)

Boomer...we may just have to get you a hat or helmet, then. You are being difficult, you know that?
And I am pleasantly surprised how quickly this is coming together! I am very glad so many other people are interested in this!

BWTP, thank you for the updates! The site is looking good!

I need a third vote for ArtCat as Lieutenant so we can go ahead and list her as such.

Nico, welcome, PFC!

LostThought, I like the idea of a machine-gunner. That gun looks good! I think we have a sniper or two in the works...having a soldier with a SAW would round it out quite nicely!
What do you have uniform-wise?
Oh, and welcome to the 76th! Don't forget to post in the Roll Call thread (if you haven't already).

I haven't seen BrownCoat1 in here lately...anyone know where he got off to?

I have been perusing DragonCon's site, and came across the "rules" for weapons. I thought it would be a good idea to post it here, as I know we had talked about other weapons such as knives:
Quote:

Please abide by our weapons policy: All weapons must be non-working and peace bonded. No functioning projectile weapons includes water pistols, silly-string guns, and ping-pong pistols. Bladed weapons must be cased or sheathed at all times. No clowning around or showing off in the common areas. Any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated and rule #7 enforced. We expect you to use good judgment; with your help, we can continue to allow peace-bonded weapons - thanks!

Rule Number 7 is this:
Quote:

We reserve the right to ask you to leave the convention and refuse to refund your membership money if you are behaving - in technical terms - like a jerk.

So...the have a sense of humor, but they are pretty serious about the weapons. I think the only thing I would really worry about would be the knives people choose to carry...just keep them firmly in their sheaths if they are real.

As to the knives...When we go to RenFaires, our swords are always peace-tied. You can find black zip ties at places like Home Depot to keep weaponry in its sheath. They usually check us at the gate, as the black blends in so well, not the garish bright orange that they use. LOL.

Just a thought.

You mean that all it took to pass the PFC exam was to fill out some details on a form? Maybe I should do paperwork a bit more often.

The reason why I was thinking a headband (or scarf tied around the head) rather than a helmet was more a way of personalising it, rather than a cost thing. With my years in the CFS, I've gotten used to wearing a heavy helmet for long durations, so I'd be able to manage something as old as the WWII 'Mae West' helmets, but I view the demolitions specialist as someone whose uniform is slightly different to the norm. It's also why the red vest (if worn) will be obscured by the tac-vest (looted from some Alliance trooper early in the war) with it's bulging pockets of explosives and other stuff mentioned in earlier posts.

SFC Alexander. I think that sounds good.

Tristan - about the vest. I will believe what you said about the thicker material, and I am also going to second your sentiment about a darker color, as (and I do not mean this as offensive) right now it looks like a crossing guard's vest.

Morning, all!

DocJubal, welcome to the 76th! Glad you joined, even if you won't be able to march. Yokohama, eh? Hmm....well, if nothing else, you can dress up in the uniform and walk around whatever room you happen to be in at the time of the march!

Nico, ok, now I understand. Makes much more sense now!

RIMG, thank you for the comment on the vest. That is what I was thinking, too, but I hoped it wasn't so. Darker red, and darker stripes, too....that might help!

Boomer! Good deal on the patch! See, it just takes a little patience and a lot of wearing you down!

I don't think I have too much to add to the thread today. I'll be getting some darker material this weekend for the vests, but it may be the middle of next week before I get anything done....or I'll stay up way too late this weekend and have the entire outfit done...vest, coat, scarf....

With the whole 'no functioning projectile weapons' in mind, I think it best for those that have/will be getting the battery powered automatics to leave the battery in your room. For those getting spring loaded, it might be best to disable it somehow (resin down the barrel usually does the trick.

Working on publishing all related updates. Will announce once I have.

BWTP, good plan. I am not sure about the resin thing, but I do know that the springs can be removed/disabled in the spring-loaded ones. As for the battery-powered ones, the battery does add some nice weight...I'll see if I can figure out something to replace it with.
I know there were quite a number of functioning airsoft guns there last year; I heard the clicking, etc...I just don't want us to be the center of bad attention!

Looking forward to the updates! Thank you!

RIMG, that is what I originally said...I think. I was having posting trouble about mid-day yesterday...let me check.
Nope, that did not make it in there. What I meant to say was "I suggest we leave any ammo at home, and disconnect the batteries of the electric ones. The hand-cocked ones should be alright...if necessary, we can put a piece of electrical tape across the cocking mechanism."
So, that may be another option to the resin, etc. One thing, though, let's try to keep the orange barrel plugs in. I may be a bit paranoid, but safer is better.

Updates posted. Let me know if I missed anything. Included in the unpdates was the addition of dog tag ideas for the uniform. Let me know what you all think.

Hey BWTP! I love the web site - you are so talented and I have signed up on the official draft thread too now, so I will have to check again soon to see my name up in lights!!

Tristan - I signed up at last! I'm on the list!

Roxy!! - Yay, I am sending good vibes to you Honey! I wanna march with you too!

Ah... do we have to fit the floor and give anyone 50? Sounds a little too strenuous...

Welcome aboard soldier. You've been added to the roster. It's only your handle on here as your callsign, and your hometown, but you're there. All I need from you is a state (not sure how they do it in Australia) and a name to accompany your rank. Most everyone else's is made up, so now's your time to be creative.

Thank you BWTP!! I am so excited about all of this - I really do believe that in years to come it will be a real honour to say I marched with the 76th in it's very first year at D*C...

It's probably best to put Melbourne, Victoria (Vic) for my place and state (I move about quite a bit as I do house-sitting)... and I am happy with Magdalena or Magda, but let me know if you wanted something extra!

Thanks again BWTP - you did a wonderful job of the website - can't wait to meet you in Atlanta!

BWTP, that's a great site for dogtags! And reasonable as hell to boot. I'll be ordering 2 sets for myself & hubby. Ours won't be exactly like ya'lls, though, as we're not military. Hope this is alright with everyone.

Should make it eaiser to spot other 76ers when they're outta uniform!

Glad you guys like the site and Boomer thanks for the posative vote on the dog tags. Just a little something extra I figured we could all do.

This is going to be my first D*C, and I can't wait. Look foward to finally meeting all of you in person.

Good afternoon; just a quick note for those of us who are not very knit-purl-sewing inclined.. I contacted a local store called "Imaginknit" and they are more than willing to have a look at the patterns for mail-sleeves. I will take my Vol. I Companion with the drawings and costume photos next week. (I'm hoping they have Internet at the shop so I can show them ArtCat's mail). Do have a question for ArtCat - they asked what kind of 'yarn' you were using? Anyway the cool thing is that they told me since they have lots of time until D*C; they might be able to make up several sleeves for us. I'll provide more details as I get them next week.

Well, i just checked it out, and if there is zero traffic (ha ha, yeah right) it's only going to take me 12 hours and 59 minutes to dive down there, which is a vast improvement on the 18 hours i thought it was going to be. Hell, I get enough sleep before heading out and I won't even need to stay somewhere before I get into Atlanta.

I just have a question for anyone that's been in the Nashville area, do they play anything but country on the radio, or should I plan on it being MP3 central while I'm driving through?

...MP# would probably serve you well...although there ARE a handful of Rock stations; the radio industry in Nashville is decidedly C&W; You might ask santa for a Siris...we LOVE ours.

Whenever we rent a car, we always try to pick one where the satellite was left on ('cause we're too cheap to pay for it). LOL. Good thing Alamo doesn't assign cars (you go out & pick one).

I'm driving my own wheels down there, so here's hoping it holds out. It's a '97 Camry, so I'm not too worried about it.

I'm just wondering how much parking is going to be at the hotel.

Also, is anyone here planning on going to the Guest of Honor Awards Banquet?

Evening, all!
I did not get to work on the new vest tonight...I am trying to get Xmas gifts made for the family, and it took longer than I expected. I should have a few hours "free" tomorrow...

BWTP, as far as parking goes, I managed to find one of those daily parking things about two blocks from the hotel that cost $10.00 a day, so that option is available.

That may be something we could think about doing as the 76th. Whoever gets there first could meet the others at the check-in curb, help unload, and watch the baggage while the driver parks the car somewhere. I know a few of us are traveling solo, and that might help out. Just a thought, let me know what y'all think.

We are cruising along with the recruitment! The web page is looking great (BWTP, whoo!), and there are only a few people we don't have all the information for. Keep spreading the word and recruiting new folk!

evenin' soldiers.

Here is another idea on parking. We can have the people to unload at the curb, and there is free parking at several MARTA stations. The only difference from the lots nearby is a little more wait time to get there, though the train lets out just on the other side of the food court.

I like the dogtag idea, and part of my xmas money is going toward starting my costume by getting the gun.

If you stay at one of the host hotels, they only have valet parking & it usually runs around $20 a day. It's convenient to have your car close by, but we never go anywhere else! LOL.

We're actually planning on going down earlier this time around, probably checking in on Wednesday. We'll be around to help out any new-comers, well as much as we can. We will have some vendor set-up on Thursday with the SEBC folks, but other than that should be wandering around.

My personal suggestion, if you can afford it, is to check-in on Thursday, as they start handing out badges around 4pm. On opening day (Friday) the lines can get crazy long. It was nice not having to futz with it last year.
