Cool, though one question, who or what is a madre?

I just tried the dark chocolate Tolberone recently, that's nice, still got a white chocolate one too.

Ah, I thought it might be a mispelling of mother or Padre, very obvious now I know the answer.

I assume Padre is Spanish for father?

But really, we didn't beat the Spanish Armada to go ahead and learn their foriegn speak.

Though having said that I would like to learn German.

We've got loads of interest ethnic foods in the UK but generally we bland them down a lot. I mean we take the most vibrant dish, curry, and specially develop a non-spicy, non-piquant variant called Tikka Massala.

Still, we get some things very right.

Her Maj needs a curry with a bit more kick to it than that sweet tasting raisin filled Monstrosity.

Well, the trouble was Constance Spry had to invent a dish that could be made with the meagre allowances available while rationing was still in effect yet still be acceptable to serve all the guests after the Coronation itself.

And Liz, bless her, has really bland tastes.

Sure you can reach places others can't, but you aren't short like the queens short. You just can't appreciate how small she is until you meet her in person. Prince Philip's really tall though, it's like little and large.

Thing is you want an imposing monarch, to strike fear into the hearts of your enemies, not one that's cute and reminds you of your gran.

hey, i like tikka massala.

wouldn't call it a curry exactly... but it has it's own charms.

I have to say though that i've given up on this tough guy pissing contest that is Indian curry eating ( i've actually had someone tell me in al seriousnes that its not a real curry if it don't burn your brows off- What happened to nice tasting food?).

Ok, so its not a principles objection - spicy food just makes my nose run, and that is in no way attractive.

Coronation chicken is used as a sandwhich filling round here - crazy thing is i always thought it was made with mayonaise.

Ok, the White Noise 2 trailers are getting really frequent! yey - according to my sources its aparently dire, but thats not the point. But they seem to have no faith in Nathans ability to sell a movie - the doctor who brings him back has more exposure in the trailer. But his nostrils get in there, i suppose thats the important bit.

I'm glad to have escaped it. I've not found true happiness yet, but I'm far less miserable (aside from that period of uber-stress). More happiness on the way I hope.

This recipe explains it better than me:

Ingredients
For the chicken
2 organic chickens
2 carrots, chopped
2 onions, quartered
roughly chopped leek or celery
1 large bouquet garni
For the sauce
60g/2oz chopped onion
1 tbsp sunflower oil
2 tsp mild or medium curry powder
1 heaped tsp tomato purée
100ml/3½fl oz red wine
60ml/2fl oz water
1 bay leaf
1 slice of lemon
dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 dried apricots
450ml/¾ pint mayonnaise
3 tbsp lightly whipped cream
salt
freshly ground black pepper
pinch of sugar

Method
1. First poach the chicken. Put them whole into two pans and divide the other ingredients between the two. Pour in enough water to just cover the chicken, then bring to the boil. Simmer very gently for around 60 minutes, depending on the size, until cooked right through.
2. Take off the heat and leave to cool in the poaching liquid. When cool reserve the poaching liquid to use as chicken stock in other dishes.
3. To make the coronation sauce, begin by softening the onion in the oil without browning. Add the curry powder, tomato purée, wine, water, bay leaf, lemon slice and juice. Simmer uncovered for 5-10 minutes or until reduced by about half, then strain and leave to cool.
4. Put the apricots in a pan with barely enough water to cover and simmer until very tender. Liquidise, adding a little extra water if needed. Leave to cool.
5. Mix the mayonnaise with the strained curry sauce and the apricot purée and some salt, pepper and sugar (if needed) to taste. Fold in the whipped cream.
6. Strip the meat from the cold, poached chickens and tear into bite-sized pieces. Toss in enough of the flavoured mayonnaise to coat nicely.

Just replace chicken for Quorn I suppose?

Besides as far as curries go it's actually really simple.

Garni is either garnish spelt wrong, or a dislexic person who works for the carnival.

Dried apricots/raisins, same thing.
