Did over an hour's worth of practice tonight. A set of 24-step Tai Chi, some Hsing-I, and some basic stuff for each of the weapons I practice with (arnis, bokken and jian).
Some cardio, stretching and situps, too.

Only a 45+ min walk today... better than nothing.

Did about 2 hours of Tai Chi practice (mostly 24 step, but with some push hands) and some Hsing-I.
Had about an hour's worth of Arnis practice (would've been longer, but today was mostly lecture, and physical stuff was up to the individual).
Fair amount of stretching in both classes.
20 or so minute walk under the really hot sun. I now have a slight headache...

Short yoga set this morning and longer one this evening - after shoveling snow from my driveway!

Missed tai chi and arnis practice today.
I then decided to punish myself with a few pushups, stretching, and more than an hour and a half long walk/march with a backpack that weighs at least 20 lbs. (4x 5 lbs. steel plates, clothes and a 1.5 liter bottle of water).

Feet now hurt.

Attended the first (of three) days of a Tai Chi and Qigong Seminar. Got dizzy from breathing exercise/s.

Still feel a bit some 7 hours after we ended. Gotta sleep this off...
...coz' day 2 starts in less than 5 hours.

It's been *very* cold here lately. So, given that I don't really have a winter coat, I haven't been able to go out and about. But, the weather changed and I was able to get in a 30-45 min walk about today.

Probably be able to get another one in over the weekend as well.

Maybe you should talk to the instructor. The doesn't exactly sound good and we don't want you to get hurt.

EDIT: So, the first Panna Cotta went south along with the second (IMO). But, the wife really wanted to try it so she gave the second batch a try. Apparently it's *really* good. I got batch number 3 in the fridge (I'm determined to make it right).

That being said, I don't want to give anyone the impression that it's hard to make. What the problem was with my first batch is that the recipe called for agar-agar. I only had gelatin and I apparently didn't use enough (or the bloom count was too low).

For the second batch, I got agar-agar and apparently suffered the same problem (but it certainly was a major improvement).

This 3rd batch (actually a 1/2 batch) has a bit more agar-agar in it. I think it should work this time... we'll see (*knocks on wood*).

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Tuesday, Thursday, same old stuff.

Except, yesterday, my dad didn't want to do so much cardio because he did lower body - and for some reason, my right leg is more sore than my left (like hobbling, stairs-are-complete-hell sore). I don't get it: I'm using machines, so they should be working the same; I'm right-handed, so shouldn't my right leg be stronger? I could be wrong on this one - I think I balance better on my left, but is that a strength thing, too?

You might be subconsciously favouring your right leg.

Not sure about the balancing thing. Though I really don't believe it's a function of strength (at least for "normal" situations ).

But, but... it's a machine... and favoring's not supposed to happen.

Oh, well. Guess I'll have to subconsciously favor my left leg next time so they're even.

Its ok, usually. While I'm not used to Qigong practices, the people there are pretty competent (and my regular 'teacher' is there treat me of any ills that occur...then again, as he points out, he's often the cause of those ills. Martials Arts are fun. ).
That and I don't think I'll readily attempt those breathing exercises without supervision. While it really isn't too dangerous, I sometimes think its a wee bit too 'esoteric' for me (I'm after the martial aspects...but one apparently can't go without the other. Otherwise, you don't get the 'full picture').

Today: Day 2 (of 3) of Tai Chi/Qigong seminar. Arrived more than an hour late. Did less than an hour's worth of actual practice. Legs hurt somewhat. Walked for roughly 15 minutes (and stood for a few hours total, I think). Humid day, methinks.

Oh, and Happy Chinese New Year to y'all.

Did an hour of combat conditioning then another 1/2 hour of yoga - and cleaned my house!

Snowed in the rest of the day. Happy Chinese New Year to all!

Got in over an hour of walk abouts today.

@GottHammer:

Not trying to call into question the competence of your instructors, nor there ablity to properly supervise there students. I'm just saying that since you had some negative side-effects from these exercises, that that should be brought up (sooner rather than later).

It might be that they say something along the lines of "Yah, everyone gets that when they first start." Or it could be that they say, "Oh, you should hold back a bit then."

Basically, it never hurts to ask. But, playing the "tough guy" might.

Also, I remember from some Kung Fu lessons years ago that these breathing exercises are good, but can be somewhat stressful for the body. As in, doing them a couple times a day won't do anything bad. But, anything more than that, with regular over use of the technique, they could cause an aneurysm.

I know I'm being somewhat paranoid here. But, asking is such a low cost and the potential gains are quite substantial.

At any rate, I think I've made my point (and probably pushed too hard - sorry if I've over stepped my bounds). So, with this, I'll let the matter drop.

Oh, must've forgotten to mention it, then, but I did tell them (almost immediately after the exercise in question).
Its kinda basic in our group to inform each other if we feel odd or weird (and I've heard enough stories about the side effects, like one member who fell unconscious while walking from practice, from the group to be cautious ).

Yup. Breathing exercises have to be regulated and built up gradually.

No biggy, though. I appreciate the concern, as I, too, tend to be paranoid.
I agree with the 'playing the tough guy' comment, too. After all, isn't an important aspect of martial arts about killing the ego (build confidence, yes, but not ego...that is if I remember correctly)?

For today:
About an hour's worth of stretching with a few situps.

Made it for an hour of kickboxing this morning. Then went out with group to a Chinese New Year feast. Do you think it cancels the workout?

I rather appreciate the concern folks show for each other here.

Hehehe. Probably. I mean, Chinese food, at least where I'm at, is notorious for having lots of MSG and tends to be quite greasy (especially the fried stuff, like rice and noodles).
Of course, Chinese food is often quite tasty...so its hard to eat just a little, IMHO.

I mean, there have been at least two times wherein I felt light-headed after eating in a chinese restaurant. One was at an eat-all-you-can-siomai place, and the other was in one where we had a multi-course meal (a lauriat, I think).
Real tasty, though.

I as well appreciate that when advice/concern is given/shown, here, it is taken as such. IMO, that is quite unique to this forum.

New thread coming.
