In honer of the movie 300..chuck full of testosterone tough-guyness...I was thinking of the best tough guys in the movies..(or TV) and the scenes that best demonstrate it

My nominees are

1) Harrison Ford drinking his own blood in Bladerunner..they don't come much cooler or tougher..

2) Bruce Willis asking for another cig after getting smacked a few times..."Touch me again, and I'll kill you.." and doing so...in The Last Boyscout.

3) James Cagney in White Heat..the grapefruit scene is a classic

These'll do for a start..I now throw it open

Well...my nominees are as follows:

1) Peter Weller in Robocop
The dude gets swiss-cheesed by psycho criminals and STILL manages to come back from the dead - with technological assistance, mind you - to get kick their scrofulous asses while fighting crime

2) Daniel Craig in Casino Royale
Let's see...genitals tortured....heart stopped by poison...parkour chase through construction site...rescuing traitorous love interest from collapsed building...Craig makes James Bond a fuckin' machine. Never stop, never give up

3) Nathan Fillion in Serenity
Have you seen the two Mal vs. Operative fights? They might be fairly short, but damn is Nathan/Mal just going balls-out in trying to kick some baddie tuchus!

The best part about that is he does his own stunts. I watched the movie with Joss' commentary on (again), and it still makes my day when he talks about Nathan hitting the plexiglass and taking Chiwetel's punches.

As for my own contributions to the list? Let's just say I need to get out more.

Well, I'd have to choose:

Mel Gibson - the first Mad Max movie (released in US as 'The Road Warrior', I think)

Vin Diesel in Pitch Black - the whole thing!

Keanu Reeves in Speed

Eric Bana in Troy - when he takes his brothers' (Orlando Bloom) place in that fight with Achilles (Brad Pitt) and hence loses his life. 'sniff'

sorry I can't think of particular scenes for the first three just the character & movie in general.

I love this ship. I have from the first moment I saw it

OOOH OOOOH this reminds me of my 2 all time favorite examples of necesary roughness - both football movies. Both a QB gettin tired of getting sacked - Keanu in the Replacements and Kip Pardue in Remember the Titans.

and they are lovely to look at

1.Tony Jaa in the protector, story was kinda whack but he does all his own stunts. And the fight scenes are amazing.

2.Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung in Killzone.
Donnie Yen VS. Sammo Hung, need I say more.

3.Viggo Mortensen in A History of Violence. Particularly the part where he stomps on some guy's throat.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in...well, any film, really. But Commando in particular

The above picture kinda says it all, really. Colonel John Matrix (yes, what a name!) kills 119 people, and brutally beats up another 16. All because his daughter was kidnapped by a camp dude in a chainmail vest. And despite at one point invading a heavy defended military compound single-handedly, his injury count for the entire film... one bullet in the shoulder and bump on the head. If that ain't tough, I don't know what is!
