CAUSAL

You know, your case would be a lot more compelling if you used proper grammar.

ORPHEUS

It does seem like the collective high school IQ has dropped recently.

So, your criteria for intelligence is the ability to memorize things. Or at least knowledge of popular culture.

I really think that you need to take another look at the definition of intelligence.

T'aint hard to get good grades in an average American High School. Show up, do a little homework in each class, score above 70 % on easy multiple choice tests that are regurgitations of subject matter that was spoon fed to ya. Don't commit no crimes, especially not on campus, and don't do anything to stand out politically or religiously. The teachers will give you every break in the book, and some that aren't. Show up for 4 years and ya get a diploma.
Prob'ly qualify for admission to most colleges, but not the " elite" schools.

Put in a little extra work, or a little talent, and you can get top grades. Take some relatively harder classes, like the AP stuff, and you can get into a bunch of those schools, if you can afford 'em.

Measuring intelligence is not an exact science. There may be a great deal of stupidity at the high school level but the truly sad thing is how many of those same people manage to get into then graduate from college.

I've been a student for quite some time now, and I completely agree with you that it is truly sad, in fact I'd say somewhat disturbing. Many people who should not be getting degrees because they don't understand most of the material they've 'learnt' in the last three or four years end up getting degrees, usually a fairly high class of degree too. Tertiary education itself is just a business, and for the most part it's not the quality but the quantity of students it produces that matters in funding and student enrollment numbers.
