yesterday was my Birthday (Now I'm 17, YAY ME!) and for a special surprise, my Mom got me a discovery flight. For those of you not in the know, this is where you go up in a plane with an instructor and when you reach your cruising altitude they let you have the controls for awhile before landing the plane.

It was AWSOME!!! there was a feeling of freedom up in the air. I can't describe it, but it was great.

Therefor I thoroughly recomend doing this if you have even the slightest interest in aviation.

Just wanted to share my experience.

Why is the rum always gone?

SAVEWASH

Now I am learning about scary.

That sounds absolutely amazing! How big was the plane? How long did you get the controls? Anyway, it sounds great. And happy belated birthday!

thank you.

The plane was a Piper Warrior II which is a bit larger than a cessna, but not by a tremendous amount.

I got the controls for about 30 minutes before we had to land (this is only because someone cut us of as we made our first approach so we had to circle the airport for an extra 10 minutes, not that I complained).

plus the instructor let me control the plane while we taxied to and from the runway

2 fun facts that I learned:

1 the fuel they use for such planes is light blue in color (and stinks)

2 while on the ground you control the airplane only with the rudder pedals

Why is the rum always gone?

Sounds way cool! Maybe for your twenty first birthday you'll get Ultralite.

FIREFLYGAL

I'm a pilot and flight instructor and it's always fun to watch the look of fear on the first flight when I tell the student, ok you can fly now. As if I would allow something that was dangerous to my health. I often allow the student to take off too, that really freaks them out. Sort of a "holy go-se did I really do that" (take-off).

It's a pity the airlines are trying to change the way the FAA pays for things and if the airlines have their way General Aviation may go the way of the Dodo bird BUT there's a breath of fresh air in congress that sees the airlines for what they are trying to do. Ok off my soapbox now.

I aim to misbehave!
