Seeing as we have been on the subject of music, list three songs, (or more) that you can't live without that will be placed in the nook's jukebox. You folks go first. I'm still trying to decide what I love the most.

Okay ten to start with and then more after everbody else has thrown in their ten. The point is to not to have a list of fifty or more because it kind of overwhelms.

*poof of blue and red smoke*

*cough, cough*

*Emerges looking very-Jaynish with several weapons strapped around his body, and holding a very menacing looking rifle.*

Am I back? Did I finally do it?

*Looks around and proceeds to remove said weapons*

Thank God. Even if this isn't the right spot, it's the closest I've seen yet.

So what's the current topic?

May you have enough.

Well, I'm going to assume that the On The Drift by the Bedlam Bards and the Serenity and Firefly soundtracks are a given. So I'm going to have to say Quia Respexit; Dien Augesicht; Mando line; Una donna a quindici arni; Miss Lucy, Standing, Macy's; Embraceable You; Georgia; and You're My Love as sung by my fiance Jeanette. I know it's cheesy, but I always melt whenever one of her songs comes up on my playlist. And if I could only ever have one cd, it would be hers.

May you have enough.

ok, i've been gone a while, today i helped tidy the house from top to bottom... i think some loafage is in order..

favorite songs... gargh, ten.

Well, there would have to be a Bowie in there.. Either Life on Mars or... i'll think about that.
NIN, would probably be We're in This Together.
Tori Amos - erm...
Beethovens Moonlight Sonata.
Let Go by Imogen Heap
Yann Tierson, but i can't decide between La Valse D' Amelie or Comptine D'un Autre Ete - probably La Valse - the piano version
Kate Bush, but again which one...
Farewell Farewell or Crazy Man Micheal by Fairport Convention
Something by Roxy Music
America, or Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkle,
Something by Fleetwood Mac when they were bluesy
Something by Elton John before he went a bit pants Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters or Captain Fantastic or...

Ok, 'stead of a jukebox how about we rig up a 400gb hard drive storage to a jukebox shell - that way us indecisive types can go over the alloted ten. Just a bit.

I'll refine the list, this is fun - something to think about tomorrow - i was all out of fresh thoughts - wheee!

Isn't sanity really a one trick pony, anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazy...ooh hoo hoo hoo... the skys the limit!

Okay that's good. I'm not saying you can't choose more than ten, just that you have to choose ten at a time.

Let's see, (scratching head), in no particular order:

There's no way out of here - David Gilmour - David Gilmour (album)

Spanish Moon - Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus (album)

Big Fungus - Michael Manring - Thonk (album)

Over The Hills And Far Away - Gary Moore - Wild Frontier (album) Not to be confused with the Led Zeppelin Song of the same name.

Echoes - Pink Floyd - Meddle (album)

The Introduction - Steve Morse - The Introduction (album)

Gosh that's six all ready, choices, choices, choices, ...

Right Hand Man - Joan Osbourne - Relish (album)

Low Spark of High Heeled Boys - Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (album)

Hoedown - Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Live At The Quick (album)

Race With Devil On Spanish Highway - Al DiMeola - Elegant Gypsy (album)

I can think of a lot more, but that's my ten to start. What's yours?

Sure, add Yes, but that's odd that you aren't fond of those 2. Anything stand out about them that you didn't care for? I like everything from them. early stuff (Piper at the gates of Dawn, Saucer full of secrets) to the most recent (Momentary lapse of reason, Division Bell) everything in between (even The Final Cut)

Thoughts on Roger Waters' "Amused to Death"?

Well DarkSide of the Moon got overplayed to death on the radio and though it is good it isn't their best, so it's one of my least favorites. The Wall is just so damn depressing in spite of being musically amazing I have a hard time listening to it. I haven't heard "Amused to Death" yet so I have no opinion.

Yes, DSOTM was overplayed, Yes Wall is depressing. I agree. But despite the over-playing. DSOTM moved me. I don't care if it's too popular (who ever the artist), If I'm moved it's good. DSOTM moved me.
Wall, Depressing. Fantastic and real to me. moved me more. It's okay if it doesn't move everyone. not everything can move every person.
Look up Rodgers' "Amused to Death" reminds me a great deal of the feel of "The Final Cut".
It's the only Waters' album I own. but I like it.

I wouldn't say I wasn't moved, just not as much as some, for the former and not to the right place by the latter. I'll take a listen to "amused" when I get a chance though towards the end of his membership Waters was starting to lose me along with the rest of the band. I'd still rather listen to him than some eighties corporate rock hair band so it's not that I disliked him, just liked him less than say Gilmour's "About Face" album.
While we are the subject of prog rock, what's your opinion of Steve Morse with or without the Dixie Dregs and or Deep Purple?

That's exceptionally valid. Not everyone has the same history, so it's hard for everyone to be moved by the same thing.
Not everyone has "father abandonment issues"(in "The Wall", father was lost to a world war. Me?, he was just lost(he was a MP in the Korean war, I watched a lot of M*A*SH*). A victim of abuse who propigated it... Meaning he was beaten, and therefore thought it was the right way to raise me and my brothers.), or "over protective Mother" issues (Mother tried to protect him from everything,("Mother did it[the Wall] need to be so high?") vs. mother literally stood in the way as the physical abuse took place, and was often hit in my stead. (I wonder where my need to protect people came from????)
I must say, I've not heard Gilmore's solo stuff, or the others you've mentioned. But, "Amused to Death" is deep, without a great deal of musically moving moments. It seems to me, to be about a species of monkey-ish aliens that come to Earth and find us all dead in front of our TV sets.... "Amused to Death."

"Give any one species too much rope, and they'll Fuck it up."

If you like Floyd, and musically moving (I wonder who I'm about to recommend) try the link in my tag, and their myspace www.myspace.com/marillion as well as the 9 songs here that span the years (some of these are fan based(more for fans who are familiar than new listeners) http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD.asp?cd_id=
1779

go about halfway down to where you see the 9 tracks and click play. just listen.

Whoa, that's heavy, sorry about the history, I truly sympathize.
On the music front Steve Morse is a incredibly talented guitarist. As far as I know he started in the band the Dixie Dregs. They are a southern progressive rock band, imagine that. Since then he has made at least ten solo albums, returned to occasionally work the Dregs and lately he has replaced Ritchie Blackmore as lead guitarist in that hard rock band from the 70's Deep Purple. If you appreciate complex progressive rock, and who listens to Yes and doesn't, you'll like Steve Morse and the Dixie Dregs.

Gilmour's solo stuff is well a lot like what Pink Floyd has been doing lately, go figure. I haven't heard his latest album Music for a Island, but his fist album self titled David Gilmour is my favorite so far, it's very well composed and very moving though it's not over produced. About Face, his second album, came out about the same time as Final Cut, it borders on over production, with multiple instrument lost in the mix, but still a great album. Lyrically it's a lot stronger and there are some very talented names in the guest roster. All in all good stuff. I am convinced that David Gilmour is too professional to make bad albums.
