I've just received my shiny new copy of Done the Impossible. I'm about 15 minutes in. And I can't finish it. Now I'm not a massively emotional person--I don't cry at the drop of the hat. I've never really cried over Firefly (OK, there was this one time...). I'm not crying now. But watching Done the Impossible--and it's wonderful, don't get me wrong--feels like getting kicked in the gut. Because all I can remember is the hurt of getting cancelled, in spite of the letters, and the doubts over a DVD release, and then hopes/fears over a movie version, and the letter writing that went with that, and then the MASSIVE disappointment with the movie's box office take, and now a long year and a half of dwindling hopes for something--anything--to continue the story. I actually haven't watched my DVD of the series in over a year, and I've only watched the BDM once or twice since it went out of the theaters. It's just too painful for me. Every time I go back to them, I'm just reminded of too much hurt, and I can't do it.

What's wrong with me? Why can't I get over it? Why am I still grieving after all this time? Shouldn't I be on to acceptance by now?

It takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. Unfortunately, some are pedaling in the wrong direction...

Though my grief may be on a slightly lesser scale, I must admit to the occasional bout of sadness regarding Firefly's fate. Many shows deserve an early demise, for they offer little hope of ever improving or drawing a loyal following. Firefly is, or was, that anomally that deserved more faith than it received.

I think that many of us relate extraordinarily well to the characters and their situations on the show. It's been an inspiration. So I can understand your deep sadness regarding its fate. But, hey, I'd rather have what little we do than nothing at all. Me, I watch the series when I feel the desire, as well as the movie, read some fic written by my favorite writers, write what inspired inklings creep into my imagination, and hold out just a mite of hope that something, anything will come of the raving optimism that is the Browncoat nation.

"I'm thinkin' we'll rise again."

Great love should never have to be replaced. Getting over it? There ain't a degree of happiness that could ever purge the stories and feelings we get from them. There is something applied from the real world to the importance of the stories. Taking that to heart is nothing to be ashamed of. It is human. Revel in it for it is the link to the lives of many. I for one am very glad to be linked to your life and am very grateful that it was Firefly that caused it.

Cas.

I know how you feel. I bought the DVD of the show and couldn't watch Objects in Space for the longest time. It's the last episode. I would always think- Well there is one more i could watch. One more to explore. Well i finally took the next step and actually watched it. Its my favoriet episode- Jubal is my favoirte villan (cuz he is crazy). And there is one part of the movie- When the first time you see Serenity and there is sad music playin- Brings a tear to my eye.

It really pisses me off that Serenity didn't do better. but i never get discouraged (or i try not to get some) Firefly is always doing well on Amazon and now we have a new DVD and possible comic coming out.

Firefly is NOT dead..And if you feel lonley. Read some Fanfics. Some are quite good.

So well said, NV. (HUG)

Causal, rather than grieve over your loss, rejoice that there are people with whom you have forged strong connections that you would have never met had it not been for Firefly.
I watch DTI and marvel at my fellow Browncoats, and smile at our strong family.

I think this is the best part of being a Browncoat. Sure we squabble, but what family doesn't? The truth is, we're all connected very deeply by our love of the 'verse. After all, I came on this board to vent my feelings about DTI. Still, it's not easy for me. I know that our ranks thinned out some when it was revealed that Wash died in the BDM. And over the coarse of the life of this board some folks have disappeared to be replaced by new ones. I can't leave (and I have tried), but it hurts to stay. Don't rightly know why that is.

Love knows no bounds. There are much worse places we have been and there are folks that have been left behind. Though it's a harsh fact of life, there is always somewhere to go. This just happens to be a safe place to fall. I can understand the discomfort in knowing it can end at any time, but enjoy it while you can. Don't be afraid of falling. Just be afraid of not wanting to get up.
